This afternoon I am excited to be getting to know London wedding photographer, Frances Carlisle<\/a>. Frances is a photographer with a relaxed and fresh style, who captures timeless photographs of precious moments.<\/p>\n

Hi Frances, could you firstly tell WWW readers a little bit about you?<\/h1>\n

Hey! I\u2019m Frances, and I\u2019m a wedding photographer. I live in London with my partner and our little boy. After our son was born, I had a complete career change. I wanted to be more creative, had fallen in love with photography – and, well, weddings are such happy, joyous, gorgeous events – why wouldn\u2019t you want to photograph them?! I also get to spend more time with my son, so it\u2019s a perfect situation.<\/p>\n

I loved my previous job running a charity for Latin American women in London. As a result I love all things Spanish and Latin American and can often be found sipping good Colombian coffee and speaking in Spanish!<\/p>\n

What do you love\/dislike about your job?<\/h1>\n

I love working with people and it\u2019s always been the central element of my job (past & present). Photographing a wedding, it just feels such an honour and a joy to be part of the happiest day of someone\u2019s life. Having run a charity with very little budget, I don\u2019t stress easily, so when emotions run high, I\u2019m calm and collected.<\/p>\n

Like most photographers, I prefer to be behind the camera – I love the creativity involved, and I love looking through a lens and seeing the beauty and emotion in people\u2019s faces. I\u2019m a giver, so when people fall in love with their photos, I\u2019m one very happy woman!<\/p>\n

How did you get into photography and into the wedding industry?<\/h1>\n

Photography has been a passion from the moment I picked up my first camera – I love capturing people, so portraits are a great fit for me. It began as a hobby, I photographed a lot of music, mainly my partner\u2019s bands as he\u2019s a jazz\/blues piano player. Friends asked me to photograph their weddings – and the rest is history.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve been lucky enough to train with some of the best wedding photographers in the industry (Mike Garrard,<\/a> Kim Hawkins, David McNeil), and I\u2019m truly grateful to them for their amazing support and sharing what they know.<\/p>\n

I love the buzz, the \u2018occasion\u2019 and the happiness of a wedding – and I\u2019m a sucker for romance!<\/p>\n

What do you aim to achieve for your clients?<\/h1>\n

I want my clients to enjoy beautiful photos of the two of them together, and to look back on their wedding album in many years to come and be able to relive it through their pictures. I aim to make their experience with me an enjoyable one so I try to ensure we\u2019re a good \u2018fit\u2019 from the offset, tailor their photography around them, and offer my advice where it\u2019s needed.<\/p>\n

On the day, I blend into the background as much as possible. As a woman I understand only too well the stress of being the centre of attention for one day and I aim to put the bride and her wedding party at ease so that the taking of the photographs is fun and hassle-free.<\/p>\n

And if any of the wedding party are Spanish speakers, then I can also speak Spanish which would help things flow.<\/p>\n

What style is your work?<\/h1>\n

My style is relaxed, artistic and natural. I love to get intimate portraits of the couple, interacting, not overly posed, and use composition, colour or other elements at my disposal to create something elegant and stylish yet very natural. Could you tell us some information about your packages\/prices?<\/h1>\n

I have three collections, which all feature a gorgeous, crafted album and include a complimentary engagement shoot. I think it\u2019s really important that after investing so much in your wedding photography, you can actually see and touch your images – and have them beautifully displayed for years to come. Do you have any tips for couples in selecting their photographers?<\/h1>\n

Probably nothing you\u2019ve not heard before, but my top tips would be:<\/p>\n

– Find someone whose style you really like;<\/p>\n

– Personality is key: if you and your photographer don\u2019t really gel, you\u2019ll not get the best from your photos;<\/p>\n

– Your photography is an investment you should be happy with<\/p>\n

– and the one thing that\u2019ll last long after the day\u2019s over. If your choices slightly exceed your expected spend, seriously consider style, experience & personal choice over economy;<\/p>\n

– Finally, if you have a gender preference (e.g. as a bride you\u2019d feel more comfortable, especially while getting ready, with a female photographer), you might also consider that. Brides often tell me it\u2019s easier on the morning of the wedding to have a female photographer in the background when they are getting ready.<\/p>\n
