Growing flowers and having your own allotment is surging in popularity in the UK. With owning my first garden this summer I am experimenting with growing vegetables and I thought it would be fun to try and grow some cut flowers.<\/p>\n

Over the coming months I will be sharing with you how I am planning my flower plot, what I plant, and what I learnt from the process to help those of you who are considering growing your own wedding flowers.<\/p>\n

To begin with I am sharing the flowers I have chosen and how I sowed my seeds…<\/p>\n

 What You Need<\/h1>\n

 <\/p>\n

\/ Compost \/ Seed Trays \/ Somewhere light and warm \/ Water \/ Seeds \/ Tools \/ Gloves \/ Labels \/<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Step 1<\/h1>\n

 <\/p>\n

Fill your trays\/pots with compost up to approximately 25% full.<\/p>\n

Step 2<\/h1>\n

Water.<\/p>\n

Step 3<\/h1>\n

 <\/p>\n

Sprinkle your seeds into rows.<\/p>\n

Label your rows.<\/p>\n

Sow all of your seeds.<\/p>\n

Step 7<\/h1>\n

Store in a light and warm space. Such as an indoor windowsill or greenhouse and keep well watered until your seedlings appear.<\/p>\n

A Few Things to Consider<\/h1>\n

 <\/p>\n

When choosing your wedding flowers, find flowers in the same blooming and sewing season as one another and your wedding.<\/p>\n

Simply look on the back of your seed packet to see the timings, best conditions for your seeds and full instructions.<\/p>\n

Consider your colour scheme, and decide on the shape and height of the blooms you wish to grow.<\/p>\n

Look for cut flower seeds in the garden centre.<\/p>\n

You can skip this first step by purchasing the seedling plugs, however this will work out more expensive.<\/p>\n

Flowers such as Peonies and Dahlias are gown from tubers, which I will be covering soon too. So do make sure you research thoroughly before purchasing.<\/p>\n

My Seeds<\/h1>\n

 <\/p>\n

Sweet Peas in multicolour & white. (Which will need a support structure.)<\/p>\n

Larkspur in white for height in arrangements.<\/p>\n

Chrysanthemum in rainbow mix.<\/p>\n

Bishop’s Flower.<\/p>\n

Calendula Officianlis in red orange.<\/p>\n

Gypsophila. (Which will be sown directly outdoors).<\/p>\n

PLUS we have thrown some wild flower seed bombs in the garden.<\/p>\n

I have also some left over seeds to try planting directly outdoors, so it will be interesting to see how the two different methods compare.<\/p>\n
