Hello, I am Rebecca Aspin (34) founder of Sellmywedding.co.uk<\/a> an online marketplace where newlyweds can sell their pre-loved wedding items to brides-to-be. The website re-launched with a new look in January and is helping brides across the UK recycle their weddings \u2013 from the dress to the decorations.<\/p>\n

What do you love\/dislike about your job?<\/h1>\n

The wedding industry has changed dramatically since I myself got married in 2007. Not only have wedding trends changed but the daily inspiration from wedding blogs mean that brides-to-be have so much inspiration available to them. Already married, I love the fact that I can immerse myself in this beautiful, inspirational and creative industry on a daily basis. I love the interaction with our users, both brides-to be (our buyers) and newlyweds (our sellers) and seeing the fantastic weddings that they have planned or plan to have.<\/p>\n

How did you get into the wedding industry?<\/h1>\n

Sell My Wedding was established in July 2011 when following my own wedding I was unable to find a UK website where I could recycle my wedding items with another bride.<\/p>\n

Three years on,\u00a0many of the items from my wedding were still in bags and boxes.\u00a0 It seemed such a waste to banish such beautiful items to the loft, never to be used again.<\/p>\n

Whilst there were websites for selling second hand wedding dresses, there was nothing out there where you could literally sell everything to do with your big day.<\/p>\n

I thought that such a marketplace would not only help make a wedding more affordable but it would also enable brides-to-be to gain inspiration from newlyweds, who had already done the hard work by trawling websites and shops to find the perfect items.<\/p>\n

What do you aim to achieve for your clients?<\/h1>\n

Since we launched we have helped hundreds of newlyweds sell their wedding and we are proud to have over 1,000 beautiful pre-loved items currently for sale.<\/p>\n

To mark our second birthday the site underwent major investment and development to make it even easier for newlyweds to sell their wedding and for brides-to-be to find their perfect items.<\/p>\n

As well as a new look, the sign up process was improved and an internal messaging system introduced to make selling simpler and safer. The search functionality is bigger and better and you can now search for items to hire<\/a> as well as pre-loved items to buy<\/a>. We are also now iphone and ipad compatible meaning our users can add items from the convenience of their mobiles or tablets.<\/p>\n

We remain passionate about recycling, reusing and re-loving and in order to bring together the largest marketplace of pre-loved wedding items, alongside our private sellers we have opened up our site to wedding businesses and vendors who specialise in pre-loved, vintage, sample or wedding items to hire.<\/p>\n

How does the website work?<\/h1>\n

Our concept remains simple, private sellers<\/a> pay a one off fee of just \u00a310<\/strong> to list an unlimited amount of wedding items, for businesses the one off fee is \u00a3100<\/strong>. There are no individual listing fees, no sales commission, and sellers manage and update their items. Buyers<\/a>\u00a0register for a free account\u00a0which enables them to\u00a0contact the seller directly! It’s as simple as that.<\/p>\n

We like to think we are not just a second-hand classified site but a beautiful online marketplace.<\/p>\n

Sellers that do really well on Sell My Wedding are those who list a number of items from their wedding and who take the time tell their story of their wedding on their profile page, which is in essence what the site is all about. We had one seller who literally sold her entire wedding \u2013 bunting, d\u00e9cor, dress \u2013 within 24 hours to the same buyer.<\/p>\n

Do you have any wedding trend predictions for weddings for 2014?<\/h1>\n

We are continuing to see lots of rustic and vintage inspired weddings on the site. I love the fact that newlyweds are listing the items that they have made and these are proving popular, as brides-to-be can get the DIY look without having to do any of the DIY themselves.<\/p>\n

We are also seeing lots of art deco, Hollywood glamour inspired weddings. Classic white and glitter are also trends that we are starting to see come through.<\/p>\n

What would be your top tip to share with Brides to Be?<\/h1>\n

Don\u2019t be afraid to buy pre-loved \u2013 just because it\u2019s a wedding, everything does not need to be brand new.<\/p>\n

If you are looking for a 1950s style wedding dresses you should definitely search for a pre-loved dress first. As the dresses are short they do not have marks or wear and tear from trailing on the ground.<\/p>\n

Also if you are looking for centrepieces or d\u00e9cor, buying second-hand is a great way to keep the costs down as you can buy and then resell after your own wedding.<\/p>\n
