Laurie and Greg chose a really unique setting for their outdoor, rustic wedding held on the 24th<\/sup> May, 2015. The Treehouse<\/a> at Alnwick Garden in Northumberland was the perfect choice, with flexible food choices and a blank canvas to stamp their personalities.<\/p>\n

They had a subtle navy blue colour theme which was used perfectly in their attire (hello Jimmy Choos). Laurie went for a tea length frock by House of Mooski,<\/a> which had a gorgeous stripe and sweet ribbon to finish the look. The boys were suited and booted in blue suits and wheat buttonholes while the girls wore lilac dresses by Monsoon.<\/p>\n

I adore the simple white blooms, quirky stationery and laid back vibe throughout.<\/p>\n

THE PROPOSAL | Greg got down on one knee after a meal out in our favourite restaurant. I\u2019d already told him I\u2019d be mortified if he did it in public!<\/p>\n

THE VISION | We wanted somewhere a bit different that reflected our personalities\u2026 we\u2019d visited the Treehouse on a break the year before and fell in love with the place! We just wanted to celebrate with our friends with good food, good music and beautiful surroundings. Not too much to ask, surely?!<\/p>\n

THE PLANNING PROCESS | I\u2019m pretty decisive and so found planning pretty straight-forward, though my sister helped hugely as she runs an events-management company! We overspent a bit (who doesn\u2019t?), but we were lucky enough to have friends and family who were super supportive on both sides which was amazing.<\/p>\n

BUDGET | \u2026more than we intended to spend, suffice it to say!! But worth every penny.<\/p>\n

THE VENUE | The Treehouse at the Alnwick Garden\u2026 such a stunning place that is totally unique; we loved the quirky interior and the rope bridges. The food was a real selling point, too \u2013 I\u2019m a keen cook and vegetarian, whereas Greg is a committed carnivore, so to be able to offer our guests a choice of three dishes for the three courses was perfect. The staff were amazing and really put us at ease in terms of organisation on the day itself. We were so fortunate with the weather; the forecast was dreadful right up until the day before but on the day the sun shined and we got married outside, which was lovely.<\/p>\n

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | I knew I wanted a tea-length dress, not least because I wanted to be able to dance unencumbered! I fell in love with the \u2018Holly\u2019 dress from House of Mooshki because of its unusual striped voile. A tea-length dress means your feet are on show, so I went for navy Jimmy Choos to match the ribbon on my dress and hair accessories. Part of me plumped for navy on the grounds that if I was forking out that much money for a pair of shoes, I wanted to be able to wear them again..! (Update \u2013 they have been worn to two weddings since\u2026 an investment, see?)<\/p>\n

FINDING THE DRESS | I went to London with my mum and sister to Fairy Goth Mother in Camden, which specialises in tea-length and vintage wedding dresses. As I\u2019ve said, I\u2019m pretty decisive and when I tried it on I knew it was the one for me.<\/p>\n

GROOM\u2019S ATTIRE | Greg wore a navy suit and white shirt from Paul Smith, and shoes by Hugo Boss. His tie was a pale blue to match the bridesmaids\u2019 dresses and my sister made the corsages using dried poppy pods, preserved moss (Greg\u2019s surname is Moss), dried wheat and beautiful lavender hare\u2019s tail flowers. He also had socks I\u2019d bought him as a present that read, \u201cjust in case you get cold feet\u201d. Geddit? Cold feet\u2026<\/p>\n

THE READINGS & MUSIC | I\u2019m a Music teacher, so was able to call on friends from university and school to perform. My friends Vicky Price and Niina Makin sang The Luckiest<\/em> by Ben Folds, accompanied by my friend Sam Lenord on the piano, and Dave Partridge performed They All Laughed<\/em> by Gershwin, accompanied by Alison Britten. The best man, Andy Lathbury opened the ceremony with some Frank Tuner lyrics and my Maid of Honour, Helen Hardy read The Confirmation<\/em> by Edward Muir.<\/p>\n

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | My Maid of Honour was my best friend from school, Helen Hardy, along with my sister, Elinor, Greg\u2019s sister, Emily, and friends Louise Hilton and Emma Clark. They wore dresses from Monsoon and had their hair and make-up done by the fabulous Lisa Jones, who\u2019s based in Newcastle and is the stylist for the House of Mooshki.<\/p>\n

THE FLOWERS | My sister Elinor is a florist and events co-ordinator based in Sheffield, so this was all taken care of by her! I wanted wild flowers that weren\u2019t traditionally bridal in style with lots of greenery to complement the venue. My bouquet had astilbe, astrantia, veronica and phlox as well as lavender hare\u2019s tails which matched the bridesmaids\u2019 dresses.<\/p>\n

THE CAKE | Greg and I are both big cheese fans, so we had a cheese tower from a local supplier down the road in Morpeth called The Cheese Shop (complete with felt bride and groom mice). We had a fair bit left over, which we happily polished off during our mini-moon on Skye. My mum also kindly made us a two-tier traditional fruit cake, too. You can never have too many cakes.<\/p>\n

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | \u2026was the fabulous Helen Russell! She absolutely made the day \u2013 she was brilliant to work with and completely captured the mood on the day. Everybody has commented on how amazing the pictures are and how inconspicuous she was at the ceremony. Beautiful, informal images that we will treasure\u2026 she was worth every penny and we would recommend her in a heartbeat.<\/p>\n

THE DETAILS & D\u00c9COR | Again, my fabulous sister stepped up and trimmed the Treehouse up on the morning of the wedding. The interior is already festooned with thousands of twinkling fairy lights, and my sister\u2019s eye for detail really complemented the beautiful d\u00e9cor of the Treehouse. She used vintage crates, glassware and suitcases as well as gypsophila, ferns and pittosporum. It was only when I saw Helen\u2019s pictures that I was really able to appreciate how much she did! One of my bridesmaids, Emma, also made favours of her award-wining lemon curd for everyone, whist my talented friend Gina Harper hand-painted the table plan and menus. Our invitations and order of service were in the style of Penguin Classic books from Feel Good Invites.<\/p>\n

THE HONEYMOON | We got married on the Sunday of the Whitsun bank holiday, and as I\u2019m a teacher I had the following week off for half-term, so we made the most of being so far north and headed up to the Isle of Skye for the rest of the week. Our main honeymoon was at the start of the Summer holidays, when we went to Venice and Lake Garda, in the beautiful Vivere Suites. As I\u2019m a red-head and Greg is blond, beach holidays are out for us, so Northern Italy with its mountains and lakes is right up our street. I need shade, basically!<\/p>\n

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Ahh\u2026 too many to mention! Booking the groom\u2019s party accommodation and realising a week before that it was literally next door to where my parents were staying, meaning we got ready side-by-side\u2026 the vintage VW Camper Van and Beatle cars that took us to the venue\u2026 my Dad\u2019s amazing speech (not a dry eye in the house)\u2026 and finishing off the evening with the fabulous seven-piece funk and soul band, The Jive Doctors, was a perfect way to end a perfect day.<\/p>\n

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Enjoy it! It\u2019s your day, so make sure you grab half an hour to yourselves. Oh, and make sure the groom checks into your accommodation for the wedding night on the morning of the wedding day. Definitely don\u2019t leave it till midnight, so that you\u2019re locked out and have to crash at a friend\u2019s and sleep in single beds. Avoid this at all costs. (Yes, that actually happened to us. But to be honest, we were too tired and tipsy to mind.)<\/p>\n
