Sarah and James decided to get married on the 31st<\/sup> October 2015, glamorous Halloween<\/a> was the vision and it worked out beautifully. They opted to use gold throughout the day which looked amazing against the colours of Autumn and the gorgeous sunlight.<\/p>\n

Much of their day was DIY’d, with the couple undertaking the stationery, d\u00e9cor, flowers and cake themselves. Painted pumpkins were placed everywhere and horror books were used to make the alternative bouquets.<\/p>\n

Sarah chose to wear a stunning Maggie Sottero<\/a> gown while James went for a tweed ensemble. So very wonderful.<\/p>\n

THE PROPOSAL | On our hotel room balcony in the Rome Cavaliera, Waldorf. Overlooking the Vatican city at night October 2013.<\/p>\n

THE VISION | There wasn\u2019t one to begin with, completely clueless about weddings and what we wanted. Once I realised that Halloween fell on a Saturday 2 years later then ideas started to fall into place. (Halloween being my absolute fave time of year \u2013 I promised James there would be a balance!)<\/p>\n

THE PLANNING PROCESS | A mixture of \u2018mood boards\u2019 and lots of Pinterest but eventually after finding Kelmarsh Hall it all started to come together to create a glamorous gold dusted Halloween wedding.<\/p>\n

THE VENUE | Kelmarsh Hall, Northamptonshire.<\/p>\n

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Maggie Sotterro dress, Rainbow Club raindrop single tier full length veil, and dark red court shoes from Office. Pine cone necklace was a wedding gift from James.<\/p>\n

FINDING THE DRESS | It caught my eye at the west point wedding fair and later tried it on at Pirouette Bridal in Exeter. I had only tried on 3 dresses before finding this one.<\/p>\n

GROOM\u2019S ATTIRE | 3 Piece tweed suit with navy silk lining, which we actually bought from Luget\u2019s in Exeter.<\/p>\n

THE READINGS & MUSIC | There were no readings, but whilst guests were arriving the pianist (Benjamin Burton) played music from horror films, such as Jeepers Creepers, I thought it would be fun if any of the guests would pick up on it. I walked down the aisle to Canon in D.<\/p>\n

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Robyn, Vicky and Sophie are all good friends and we all have a crafty background so loved putting this day together.<\/p>\n

THE FLOWERS | I made all the flowers out of horror books and this took me months, my bridesmaids help me finish them right up until the Thursday before the wedding!<\/p>\n

THE CAKE | I made this myself too, the bottom layer was fruit, 2nd<\/sup> layer was Guinness sponge which is James\u2019 favourite and many of his friends too, the next layer was pumpkin sponge and the following two layers were lemon sponge, 5 layers total. It drove me crazy in the end and in hindsight I would either do all the layers as fruit or get a professional to do it, but it was an experience and I learned a lot.<\/p>\n

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Olivia Johnston \u2013 Brilliant, completely professional and lovely, very creative herself and totally understood the theme for the day.<\/p>\n

THE DETAILS & D\u00c9COR | There were around 300 pumpkins that my bridesmaid kindly spent their weekends painting for us, the other bits and pieces I collected over a year and the card box I bought from eBay and varnished myself but Vicky helped with the monogram on the front. There was edible gold leaf for the champagne flutes, and the table names were named after characters from two of our favourite books; Red Gragon and the Hobbit.<\/p>\n

THE HONEYMOON | We spent Christmas in Iceland for a week.<\/p>\n

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | The moment right before walking down the aisle.<\/p>\n

Seeing James\u2019 face down the aisle and very nearly crying (with happiness).<\/p>\n

For James: waiting for me to walk down the aisle.<\/p>\n

Our first dance \u2013 I stood on James feet and we danced to Video Games \u2013 Lana del Ray.<\/p>\n

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | The stress of planning the big day is completely worth it in the end, we were overwhelmed by all the love and support on the day by all of our family and friends.<\/p>\n
