We’re ending the week here at Whimsical Wonderland Weddings with a glam countryside affair filled with sparkles and love.<\/p>\n

WWW readers Amy and Gareth were married on the 25th March 2016 on a glorious Spring day at Wellington Barn<\/a> in Wiltshire. The vision was clear from the beginning; to create a big party in blush pinks and metallics. Sounds pretty gorgeous right?<\/p>\n

I just love the use of rose gold in the decor, with the metallic hue used in the table number<\/a> frames and sequin table cloths. Spring blooms worked beautifully alongside fairy lights and a show stopping buttercream cake. Amy chose to wear Delores by Maggie Sottero, all figure hugging strapless lace. WOW. Gareth found his blue suit in House of Fraser and teamed it with a pink tie which matched the pretty maids dresses perfectly.<\/p>\n

THE PROPOSAL | Gareth and I had been together for three and a half years when he proposed in Nice, France whilst we were on holiday. We first met when I was fifteen but had our first proper date when I was sixteen and he was seventeen where he took me to KFC and I paid for my own meal! Clearly that didn\u2019t put me off though as we dated on and off throughout our teenage years before we began a serious relationship when I was nineteen and he was twenty. During our flight and journey to Nice I couldn\u2019t understand why he was so agitated and tense – particularly when his bag was the last to come off the luggage carousel at the airport. On our second night things became a lot clearer when on the beach at night looking at the lights twinkling in the harbour, Gareth proposed. I was so happy that I spent most of that night either laughing or crying and it was made all the more special as it was the first surprise during our relationship I hadn\u2019t managed to guess in advance.<\/p>\n

THE VISION | One of the things we both agreed on from the very beginning of thinking about what our wedding would be like, was that we wanted it to feel like a family party and not very formal. This impacted on the venue we chose which was a lot less formal than a ballroom or hotel and also on the way we served the food. D\u00e9cor wise, I was addicted to pinterest and wedding blogs and began by just pinning anything I liked. Eventually a theme emerged of blush and pale pinks with contrasting metallic tones, especially rose gold.<\/p>\n

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We had a fairly long engagement due to my profession at the time which helped to ensure that we had plenty of time to work out exactly what we wanted and to research vendors. We booked the major elements of the wedding including the venue, photographer and caterer eighteen months in advance which really helped reduce my stress levels as the wedding drew nearer. I made my own wedding planner with plenty of space to insert pictures, contracts and to make copious lists. Having monthly lists or even weekly in the last couple of months made the process seem a lot more manageable and also meant my husband could pick out the tasks he felt comfortable with. Although the last few months were stressful I absolutely loved the process of planning each individual element and seeing how it call came together made any stress worth it.<\/p>\n

BUDGET | We had an approximate budget of ten thousand pounds. We worked out what we felt it was important to spend money on such as the photographer, venue and caterer. Then we decided what we could save on for example collecting the d\u00e9cor ourselves using second hand wedding websites or spotting bargains and buying things as we saw theme like our candle holders which were a bargain at three pounds for six. We also were lucky to have some lovely family members who really wanted to contribute their unique talents such as one of my sisters who is studying graphic design who designed our invitations and the menus that served as our place settings.<\/p>\n

THE VENUE | I found the process of finding a venue initially quite frustrating and sent over fifty emails to different venues before finally making plans to visit a handful of venues. It seemed like we wouldn\u2019t be able to find something within our budget that was in the right location with the casual, countryside feel we were looking for. The moment we turned into the lane that took us up to Wellington Barn in Calne, Wiltshire we knew that this was the place we wanted to have our reception. Surrounded by rolling hills and countryside as far as the eye could see and with beautiful exposed beams contrasting with a more modern reception room with a wall of windows, it was perfection. We snapped it up immediately. The manager, Ed Grace was an important factor in this decision as he was so flexible and accommodating from the very first meeting.<\/p>\n

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | When we entered the shop I had a vision of a simple lace gown and when I was asked to chose an initial five dresses to try on, my little sister requested that I try on an embellished figure hugging strapless dress the Delores by Maggie Sottero. To everyone\u2019s surprise after trying on the lace dress and not feeling at all like a bride, I tried on my sister\u2019s choice and fell in love. It just proves that it\u2019s best to go dress shopping with an open mind as you never know what will end up feeling best. Of course my sister has now told everyone that she was responsible for choosing my dress! I decided on a simple fingertip veil with pearl details, which really added to the dress without disguising the embellishment on the back and train. My something old, borrowed and blue were my mums vintage jewellery including natural pearl earrings and a sapphire ring. My something new was a beautifully soft, fuzzy pale pink bolero that my mum custom ordered from Etsy. It\u2019s something I used a lot on the actual day and really added to the overall look.<\/p>\n

FINDING THE DRESS | I enjoyed every moment of the dress shopping process and I wish I could do it all, all over again. I visited two wedding dress shops and felt immediately in good hands when we arrived at Wedding Days Of Cheltenham with Jane and her team. Jane has a very clever knack of knowing your exact size and what will best suit you, before you even figure it out for yourself. Jane struck a lovely balance between being honest and open but also making me feel really beautiful and special. Trying on wedding dresses was completely different to wearing normal clothes and if I could pass on any advice to other brides, it would be to keep a really open mind.<\/p>\n

GROOM\u2019S ATTIRE | Gareth\u2019s suit was from House of Fraser by the brand Alexandre. The cut of this brand really suited his tall, slim frame and he felt really confident He knew he wanted a brighter coloured suit to contrast with the pale grey suits of the groomsmen so he settled on a bright blue suit with a grey waistcoat. We both really liked the way the whole outfit looked with the contrasting waistcoat, it added a really modern edge and it helped him to stand out on the wedding day. Keeping everything else simple, both Gareth and the groomsmen wore crisp white shirts with pale pink ties and pocket squares, which complimented the flowers in their buttonholes and in my bouquet.<\/p>\n

THE READINGS & MUSIC | We were married in a lovely little church called St Mary The Virgin in Calstone, just a mile or so from the barn. Being a church service one of my gorgeous bridesmaids Emi, read \u2018Song of Solomon 2.10-13; 8.6,7\u2019. It is such a beautiful reading and so meaningful to hear her read it to us. My mum wrote an amazing poem entitled \u2018Building Blocks\u2019 which brought a tear to our eyes and my little sister Sophie read \u2018Oh The Places You\u2019ll Go\u2019 by Dr Seuss. The choice of hymns was really important to us, we wanted to choose hymns everyone would be familiar with such as \u2018Shine Jesus Shine\u2019 and \u2018One More Step\u2019. Thanks to our very open-minded vicar, we walked out of the church to \u2018Signed, Sealed, Delivered\u2019 by Stevie Wonder which was a really fun moment which I know our guests enjoyed too. During the evening reception we hired a live band \u2018Teenage Kicks\u2019 which we both felt was a worthwhile splurge. The band learnt our first dance song especially for us, which was \u2018Wasn\u2019t expecting that\u2019 by Jamie Lawson with a slightly adapted ending. Their performance of the song was amazing and it is one of my favourite moments of the entire day.<\/p>\n

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I was very lucky to have my two little sisters and two best friends as my bridesmaids. I couldn\u2019t have imagined my wedding without these four and throughout the entire process they were supportive, enthusiastic and understanding. Although all of them were very flexible, it was still challenging to find a dress, which they all felt comfortable in. We decided on long dresses due to the English spring weather and we knew a pale pink colour would fit best with the overall theme. We chose a pale pink lace one-shoulder dress with a sweetheart neckline. Due to some last minute dress issues my maid of honour ended up in a similar, but different dress but I think that the contrasting dresses complimented each other perfectly on the day. The girls chose their own hairstyles but all had some sort of plait within their hair. I didn\u2019t want to prescribe their hair and make up because I wanted them to feel confident on the day with lots of photographs being taken and attention on them.<\/p>\n

THE FLOWERS | My wonderful Mum did all of our flowers, from the moment we got engaged she told me she wanted to do them all and I trusted her to do a fantastic job. She ordered the flowers from a Dutch market and they arrived a couple of days before the wedding. She came up with this beautiful, whimsical themed idea of having floral arrangements within clear baubles hung on blush or gold ribbon on the pew ends of the church. The bridesmaid\u2019s bouquets were smaller versions of my bouquet with blush roses, ombre pale pink roses, gypsophila and eucalyptus. For our top table she designed circle arrangements filled with roses, pearl wire and eucalyptus all connected with winding lengths of ivy. The flowers really complimented our d\u00e9cor and the pastels and green tones within the flowers were very spring like.<\/p>\n

THE CAKE | Our cake was a naked cake with three different flavoured tiers. As soon as we were engaged I immediately knew I wanted Pia from Vanilla Pod Bakery (Cheltenham) to do our cake. Having worked for her for a short time whilst at university and tasted many of her cakes, I knew it would be absolutely delicious. We chose a chocolate ganache bottom layer, a fresh raspberry and lemon curd middle layer and then our top layer was invented by my husband and was Strawberry and Lime; inspired by his love of Redkorderlig strawberry and lime cider. Our venue manager and his girlfriend put the naked cake together including adding the buttercream under the fresh fruit and we felt they did a fantastic job.<\/p>\n

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Our photographer Rob, from Rob Tarren Photography was one of the very first bookings I made and I so glad I did. The photography is such a crucial element of the wedding, as those photographs that are taken will be treasured forever. We found Rob through his Facebook page where he had sensational reviews. After visiting his website and looking at his images, it was clear he was exactly what we were looking for with his candid, documentary style photography. Rob was an absolute joy to be around on the wedding day, he put everyone at ease from the moment he arrived at the cottage in the morning. His expertise meant that he blended seamlessly into the background during the wedding whilst capturing beautiful moments that we hadn\u2019t even realised had happened. We will treasure the photographs he took for us forever because they really captured the genuine happiness and joy we felt on our wedding day.<\/p>\n

THE DETAILS & D\u00c9COR | Our overall colour scheme was shades of pale and blush pink, white and rose gold. I love the rustic look but I wanted to choose something a bit more countryside glam to fit in with our venue. Our white and pale pink floral centrepieces were complimented by a collection of different candle holders in gold and rose gold mercury glass. We used simple clear vases for the main floral centrepiece as well as a gold mercury glass bottle holding a single stem flower. Most of the tables had gold and pale pink lace table runners which were made by my mum and her elderly neighbours. On the top table we had rose gold table runners to make the table stand out.<\/p>\n

I also used rose gold table runners on our candy and biscuit bar, which was a big hit with our guests and which also acted as our favours. The lovely people at The Candy Man shop in Cirencester selected and prepared an assortment of sweets and chocolates in pink, white and gold to go with our colour scheme. They were absolutely fantastic, priced very competitively and the candy\/biscuit bar was something, which was talked about by many of our guests as being a real highlight for them.<\/p>\n

The rose gold theme continued in the frames that held our table numbers, which were dates that were meaningful to us. I also found a gorgeous rose gold mirror, which we used for our seating plan. Inside the smaller barn room we had white and gold tea lights and two poser tables with mercury glass vases. Luckily for us due to the gorgeous weather (we were very lucky as the days before and after were dark, cold and very rainy) we had our canap\u00e9s and drink reception out on the patio.<\/p>\n

I loved browsing Etsy prior to the wedding and whilst on Etsy I found someone that made custom Instagram frames with our names, caption and wedding date. We attached pink ribbon to the frame and hung it from one of the beams in the barn. It was the location of many selfies throughout the day and into the evening.<\/p>\n

THE HONEYMOON | Immediately following our wedding we went to Center Parcs for a mini-moon, which was brilliant. We spent our time relaxing in the spa, swimming in the outdoor pool and rapids and riding around the forest on our bikes. I also spent a lot of time napping as I think the pre-wedding stress had finally caught up with me. We felt a lot more rested after having the opportunity to unwind. In the summer, for the first time we are indulging ourselves with a sun holiday at a five star all inclusive where I am hoping I will need to do nothing more than laze by the pool and indulge in some yummy food. Usually I plan and organise our holidays myself but with the wedding planning taking priority, we decided we wanted to book something where everything would be taken care of for us without me needing to lift a finger.<\/p>\n

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | We both agree that our favourite moment was when I walked into the church and we saw each other for the first time. It felt so amazing to be stood at the front of the church in front of the people we love and care about so much with our lovely vicar. A close second was listening to the band singing our first dance song, the lyrics of which are very meaningful to us. The day went by in such a flash and we were both so overwhelmed with the love we felt and the effort each of our guests had gone too to be with us on our wedding day.<\/p>\n

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | My advice would be to really research your vendors carefully, read reviews and look at a selection of vendors before deciding which to choose. Make sure you trust your vendors implicitly as this made our day run so smoothly and it was so much easier knowing that we could trust them to make our vision come alive. Also it\u2019s true when people say the day goes by in a flash, we woke up the next morning and for a minute it seemed like it had been a really amazing dream.<\/p>\n
