I am blown away by this wedding today which features a bride that made her own dress, flower girls in tutus and a colour scheme to die for.<\/p>\n

WWW readers Nicola and Will chose to get married on the 25th<\/sup> March 2016 at Curradine Barns<\/a> in Worcestershire. They hoped to create a rustic and relaxed country wedding, complete with dusty lilacs and greys with hints of copper. Amaze.<\/p>\n

The attire was just sensational; Nicola’s lace off-the-shoulder long sleeved gown was a triumph, the gents wore dapper blue suits with red ties, the bridesmaids donned pale lilac frocks and the little ones wore tutus and and flower crowns. They were all perfectly complimented by the abundance of natural style florals too. Enjoy.<\/p>\n

THE PROPOSAL | During a weekend away in Venice for my birthday in October 2014, Will proposed on a bridge over the River on our last night there. He decided to do it in a quiet area where there was no one around so that he didn\u2019t have an audience – he was so nervous he opened the box upside down and I couldn\u2019t see the ring!<\/p>\n

THE VISION | We both wanted a civil ceremony as neither of us are particularly religious and we loved the idea of a more intimate marriage ceremony. Location wasn\u2019t important but we were looking for a barn type venue with a more rustic, country feel to it. Our colour scheme was dusty lilac and greys with hints of copper detailing. We wanted our guests to feel relaxed and less formal, and for the day to actually feel like one big party\/celebration.<\/p>\n

THE PLANNING PROCESS | The venue was the first step of the planning, so we chose to look within a 1 hour radius of our home so our guests weren\u2019t travelling too far. We really wanted a Spring wedding as it is my favourite time of year, and worked out well choosing March as it gave us plenty of time to plan (18 months). Then I did my research on choosing a colour scheme, flowers and the style of dress I wanted. I then booked our florist (Emily Robbins) and Will was given the task of choosing a band as this was his area of expertise as he is in a band himself so I knew he would enjoy this part. We both did research on photographers and eventually chose Kayleigh for the job as we loved her style. Once we had the venue, florist, photographer and band booked we could relax a little bit. After that I was free to spend hours on pinterest creating all 39 wedding boards, looking at flowers, invitation style, theme and decoration. As I decided to make my own dress around 1 year before the day, this was my main priority, so I was quite unorganised when it came to everything else and as usual I left so much of it until the last minute! I went to car boots and charity shops collecting copper bits and made so many eBay purchases! I\u2019d say the last 2 months before the wedding it all started to come together and I did all the finishing touches the week before the wedding!<\/p>\n

BUDGET | We struggled to keep within our budget as we wanted everything we saw, but we did compromise on certain things and had to weigh up what we thought was more important and what would be worth the extra expense \u2013 we wanted our guests to have a lovely day with lots of little surprises but we did have be sensible as it is so easy to go overboard.<\/p>\n

THE VENUE | Curradine Barns \u2013 the venue was absolutely gorgeous and we loved it as soon as we first went to view it \u2013 we loved the rustic feel to it but it was also quite bright and modern at the same time. It ticked every box for us \u2013 lovely intimate ceremony room, a bright, modern wedding breakfast room that wasn\u2019t too big (Will wanted a small room so that it wasn\u2019t so daunting doing his speech), a room for myself and my bridesmaids to get ready in, an absolutely amazing honeymoon suite, and it even had a 9 bedroom cottage for all our family to stay in and they had a lovely couple that worked there that looked after us and made all of us breakfast in their kitchen the next morning! The staff where brilliant, and Lauren who looked after us was so on point, she was there throughout the whole day making sure we were having the best day and making sure we had everything we needed \u2013 they did a great job looking after us and they we so organised.<\/p>\n

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | I tried lots of dresses on but I struggled to find a dress that I loved! I always liked the top of one or the bottom of another, and I had my heart set on long sleeves and lace like Kate!! As I do dress making as a hobby and I work as a pattern cutter, I couldn\u2019t help thinking that I would love to have a go myself (I think this was why I was so picky with dresses) and when I tried a dress on that I loved but wasn\u2019t quite perfect, I just thought.. I\u2019m going to have a go at it! So I gave myself a time line of when I would have a practice version done by and I chose a back up dress if it all went wrong. I also bought a fantastic book that taught me all the tricks and techniques of bridal wear which was a great help (\u2018The Wedding Dress\u2019 by Becky Drinan). I struggled to fit it to myself as you can imagine so I decided to make myself a mannequin where I covered myself in plaster bandages to make a front and back, then joined these and filled them with expanding foam, inserting a stand in to the foam which my dad had made me. This was a great help as it was an exact replica of myself so I could model my dress on it and make any alterations I needed to. My dress was originally in 2 parts, having an under dress made from 100% silk crepe sandwash which had a lovely peached feel to it in Ivory, with a low back to my waist and concealed zip. The front had bust pads inserted so I didn\u2019t have to wear a bra, and the shape was quite fitted down to the hip with a gently flare \u2013 I didn\u2019t want anything to big or extravagant but I still wanted the \u2018wow\u2019 factor so I had a long train at the back. I got all my fabrics, including my lace, from Platinum Bridal fabrics based up North but I ordered off the website. They have so many beautiful laces to chose from it was really hard!! The outer originally had shoulders and a notch-neck shape neckline but 3 months before the wedding I decided to change it to an off the shoulder style so I had a last minute panic changing it all, taking off the shoulders and straps, and trying to work out how to keep the whole thing up without falling down, but I got there in the end. The rest of the lace dress was the same shape as the under with a little more flare and a log train, with a beautiful scallop lace edging around the hem. I did regret making the dress at times as it caused me a lot of sleepness nights, but I am so glad I did it in the end and had a great sense of achievement.<\/p>\n

My jewellery was rose gold and I had matching necklace and earrings from Not On The high Street. I didn\u2019t need a bracelet as I had long sleeves. In my hair I had some foliage that I got from the florist and spray painted it rose gold colour \u2013 this sat on top of my bun at the back! My garter was Alice Temperley \u2013 a gorgeous ivory lace with a blue ribbon bow. For my something old I had a sixpence in my shoe, something new was my garter, something borrowed was my mum’s wedding ring tied to the inside of my dress, and something blue was diamant\u00e9s on the bottom of my shoe saying \u2018I do\u2019. My shoes we rose gold barely there heels from ASOS, just simple shoes which I then customised by using the beaded trim from my belt on the strap and ivory gros-grain bows at the back.<\/p>\n

GROOM\u2019S ATTIRE | The groom, best men, ushers and fathers wore blue suits from Next with copper ties, brown brogues and buttonholes that matched my bouquet.<\/p>\n

THE READINGS & MUSIC | Me and my bridesmaids\/flower girls walked down the aisle to \u2018Ho Hey\u2019 by The Lumineers, and we walked out to \u2018All You Need Is Love\u2019 by the Beatles. Our first dance song was \u2018The You And Me Song\u2019 by The Wannadies \u2013 we felt that the lyrics to this song were perfect!<\/p>\n

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I had 6 bridesmaids \u2013 my 2 sisters and my 4 best friends. 2 of my friends were pregnant at the time which was lovely so they had silver grey maxi dresses with silver sequins from ASOS, and the others had dusty lilac coloured maxi dresses, also from ASOS. They looked absolutely stunning!! They all had silver initial necklaces from Oliver Bonas which we got for them as a wedding present. I also had 2 flower girls Sophie and Evie who were 6 and 2 \u2013 they had cute little tutus in silver and grey, which we had made by Dainty Dizzy tutus, with white leotards, white flower crowns and silver glitter pumps. The girls also had silver necklaces with their names on from Lisa Angel \u2013 the packaging alone was amazing and the necklaces were really cute.<\/p>\n

THE FLOWERS | My flowers were from Emily Robbins who did really well with the flowers on the day \u2013 they looked great and she managed to get them looking exactly as I had imagined. I chose all the flowers I wanted to fit the colour scheme and Emily did her best to get them, even the ones that weren’t in season at the time! She was great as she replied back to my thousands of emails even when it was 1am in the morning and was really helpful.<\/p>\n

THE CAKE | The cake was a wedding present from Will’s aunty Carol who makes cakes as a hobby. It was a fruit cake with smeared white icing, copper coloured flowers in clusters and flowers from the bouquets scattered around the layers. The cake topper was a wire heart with our initials and the date \u2013 this came from America off Etsy!<\/p>\n

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Our photographer was Kayleigh Pope \u2013 she was recommended to us by Emily the Florist and when I checked out her website I knew straight away I wanted her to snap our day as her style was really current and individual, I loved the photos on her website and loved following her blog \u2013 I knew she would take some fantastic photos and she really did!<\/p>\n

THE DETAILS & D\u00c9COR | We had lots of little copper bit scattered around the venue \u2013 the theme was Easter with it being Good Friday so lots of Easter details. We had a table plan where the guests had to find the photo of themselves in a frame \u2013 \u2018Find your face to find your place\u2019 and on the back was their table name. We also had an Espresso Martini bar alongside the drinks reception and myself and Will love the cocktail and so do a lot of our friends, so a great personal touch. The favours on the table were hyacinth bulbs wrapped in white tissue, raffia and a small wooden copper heart, with \u2018Thank you\u2019 signs on lolly sticks. We also had succulent plants in glass pots with copper leafing around the bottom edge and filled with sand and white stones \u2013 both ideas I had found on pinterest and had a go at making myself. For the table centres we had glass bell jars each with an Easter display inside of a nest with butterflies and dried flowers weaved through, and some artificial birds eggs in the centre. All the bits were from Hobby Craft and the bell jars were from H&M home and TK MAXX! Also each guest had a bag of mini eggs in voile drawstring bags. For the guest book I did a sign to explain to the guests that they had to take a picture of themselves with the camera on the table, write a note in the copper leaf covered guest book and leave a space for their photo, which we have printed since the wedding and stuck in! We thought it would be great to have actual photos in the guest book to remind us of everyone on the day! We also had a family tree on the reception table and got wedding photos of all our family to hang off the tree.<\/p>\n

THE HONEYMOON | For our honeymoon, we went to Dubai, Sri Lanka and the Maldives \u2013 absolute paradise where we did some well earned relaxing. We had the most amazing 2 weeks ever!<\/p>\n

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | My dad’s speech for me was a memorable moment as I know how nervous he was but he did such a good job it made me cry. He played a home video on a projector which made the guests laugh and his words were great. Will’s speech was equally as good he said some lovely words to all the family and myself and he did a great job! I also loved sitting eating the meal and just looking round and seeing all our friends and family together in one room having a great time \u2013 this made all the hard work worth it!!<\/p>\n

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Enjoy the lead up to the wedding and the planning as much as possible \u2013 it\u2019s easy to get caught up in the wedding stress but its such an exciting time you just have to enjoy it all because you only get to do it once! Also take a moment during the evening for you and your husband just to stand back and have a moment to take it all in, as the day goes so fast!!<\/p>\n
