Who doesn’t love a good old village fete? There is something so comforting about the traditions and local community all coming together. So I think a village fete theme lends itself just perfectly to a wedding, just as today’s couple did too.<\/p>\n

Katie and Tim tied the knot on the 28th May 2016 at the village church and also held a baptism for their daughter at the same time. They then headed to Normanton-on Soar Village Hall in Nottinghamshire for their fun and colourful reception. Orange Tree Weddings<\/a> coordinated their day perfectly, with swags and drapes creating a cosy atmosphere, fun and games outside and quirky props all round.<\/p>\n

The blooms were something else and Katie’s bouquet was just so swoon-worthy in burgundy and peach. Hearts for eyes. She chose Maggie Sottero<\/a>‘s Ettia with its heavy bead work and plunging back. You are going to love this folks.<\/p>\n

THE PROPOSAL | 21st February 2014. Whilst it was snowing at an Italian Ski Resort. We had gone for a walk in the snow and it was too cold for Tim to get on one knee!<\/p>\n

Although it was a surprise, I thought something was a little out of sorts. Tim had been quite stressed on the journey down there. He had planned to propose on route, by Lake Lovere, but the heavy snow, a mix up with the car rental and the rush hour traffic in Milan resulted in him needing to change his plans<\/p>\n

THE VISION | Summer Fete with vintage d\u00e9cor and bright colours. We decided that we didn\u2019t want a set colour theme but the men wore burgundy ties and our bouquets were a mixture of ivory, peach and burgundy with lots of green foliage. We wanted an informal and fun day that was something a bit different. We gambled a bit with the weather!<\/p>\n

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We set a date in the Summer of 2014 and booked venues, etc. We planned most other things this year. We booked Orange Tree Weddings and Jules was fantastic at planning our reception.<\/p>\n

THE VENUE | St Anne\u2019s Church Sutton Bonington for the ceremony and Normanton-on-Soar Village Hall for the reception. Tim grew up in Sutton Bonington and his parents still live in the village. We decided on St Anne\u2019s as it is a beautiful church. The vicar also agreed to baptise our daughter, Edie, during the ceremony.<\/p>\n

The village hall provided a blank canvas for our reception – which is just what we wanted. The outdoor space was what really sold it to us. We knew that we wanted outdoor games and the large field was perfect. There is also a small children\u2019s park which was ideal for our younger guests. We wanted the day to be informal and relaxed – the hall was perfect for this.<\/p>\n

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | I\u2019ve always felt more comfortable in jeans and a pair of converse and I\u2019ve never been one to wear formal or glamorous dresses. I tried lots of styles on but I knew that I wanted something different that I didn\u2019t walk or stand awkwardly in. I knew that I wanted something with a small sleeve and although I had originally thought I\u2019d like a tea dress, I decided on a full length dress as I needed to wear flat shoes.<\/p>\n

The low v-shaped back was beautiful, revealing just enough. I have always liked beading and if I could travel back to any one era, it would be the 1920s. The dress ticked all of those boxes! It had a 1920s feel to it and I loved the champagne\/ivory colour and beading. It was also super comfy! I hadn\u2019t felt the same in any other dress.<\/p>\n

Shoes – I didn\u2019t want to be taller than Tim on the day so I\u2019d decided early on that I\u2019d wear flats. I also decided that I had to wear flats I wanted to treat myself to some I\u2019d love to wear again. I got some blush Melissa shoes by Vivian Westwood, with a metallic heart. They were perfect and I couldn\u2019t wait to wear them again after the wedding!<\/p>\n

Hair piece – I decided that I didn\u2019t want to wear a veil as I loved the detail at the back of my dress and I didn\u2019t want anything covering it. Keeping with the 1920s style, I\u2019d seen a few photos on Pinterest of brides wearing hair drapes. I found a woman on Etsy who makes hair accessories by hand and was able to make a bespoke piece in time for my hair trial.<\/p>\n

I was so excited when the box arrived and I wasn\u2019t disappointed. The hair piece was beautiful-the vintage feel worked perfectly with my dress. The company is Tallulah Loves Trinkets and she is very talented!<\/p>\n

Hair and Make-up – was by Yvonne at Summers at Eleven, Ruddington and Jo Lale Independent Make-up. Both are very talented at what they do and put me at ease that morning.<\/p>\n

FINDING THE DRESS | The staff at Beautiful Brides in Nottingham were lovely. The assistant, Hannah, who I met during my initial appointment was really friendly and put me at ease (in an environment\/situation where I thought I would feel awkward).<\/p>\n

I tried several dresses on that morning before visiting other bridal shops. I hadn\u2019t actually seen my wedding dress and I returned to the shop at closing to second view another one that I\u2019d liked. Although they were closing, the lady allowed me to go upstairs to look at the other dress again. Once I was in the shop, I immediately noticed \u2018my dress\u2019, and said to my mum, \u201cWhy didn\u2019t I try this one on this morning?\u201d.<\/p>\n

I tried the Ettia dress on and immediately fell in love with it.<\/p>\n

GROOM\u2019S ATTIRE | A navy checked suit from Reiss, white shirt from TM Lewin, burgundy tie from John Lewis and brown brogues from Ted Baker. We asked the ushers and my brother, who gave me away, to wear navy suits of their own choice. The ushers and best man wore the same tie as Tim and my brother wore a burgundy polka dot bow tie from Mrs Bow Tie (great website!).<\/p>\n

THE READINGS & MUSIC | We had three readings during the ceremony (it was a bit longer with a baptism in the middle). We had 1 Corinthians 13 as our first reading followed by a non-religious poem by Shel Silverstein called \u2018Ations.\u2019 I added a few additional verses about Tim and I, to give it a personal touch.<\/p>\n

Our final reading was during Edie\u2019s baptism and it was \u2018Forever\u2019 by Emma Dodd (a children\u2019s book). It\u2019s a lovely book about a mother polar bear looking after her baby. We chose Edie\u2019s godmother to read it.<\/p>\n

We had three hymns during the service.<\/p>\n

We decided we wanted a band for our evening reception and found a Manchester band called \u2018After Party\u2019 via Warble Entertainment. They were amazing! They had the guests begging them to play more songs at the end of the night. They played a real mix of music ranging from 60s to current. The lead singer, Aaron was great at communicating and they created a really good atmosphere.<\/p>\n

We chose \u2018Come and Get your Love\u2019 by Redbone as our first dance – we wanted something a bit different.<\/p>\n

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | My younger sister, Alana, was the only adult bridesmaid. We had our 8 year old niece, Elise, as bridesmaid and Edie, our 3 year old daughter, as flower girl.<\/p>\n

Alana wore a peach pleated midi skirt from ASOS and an ivory lace top from Zara (shoes from Topshop).<\/p>\n

The younger girls both wore ivory dresses from Next with embellishment around the neck. They also wore rose gold\/tan sandals from Next. I wanted all three bridesmaids to wear something that they would be able to keep and wear again. They all carried smaller versions of my bouquet, gradually getting smaller with Edie\u2019s being the smallest<\/p>\n

THE FLOWERS | Roses, hypericum, alstroemeria, lisianthus, and lots of foliage. I knew that I wanted a loose, hand tied bouquet with lots of foliage. We\u2019d met with Sally from Phoenix Flowers, in Ruddington, and she knew exactly what I was thinking. She suggested the flowers that would work and she also included berries to add the burgundy colour. We used the same flowers to decorate our wedding cake.<\/p>\n

The flowers in church were arranged by a friend of Tim\u2019s father. She did an amazing job too and the church looked beautiful, in particular the font in which Edie was baptised!<\/p>\n

Orange Tree Weddings filled jam jars with flowers of similar colours at the reception.<\/p>\n

THE CAKE | One of our friends\/Tim\u2019s work colleagues, Theresa Lacey, kindly offered to make it for us.<\/p>\n

We decided that we wanted a relaxed and rustic look and met with Theresa to talk through ideas. She agreed to make us a \u2018naked cake of three tiers, each tier a different flavour. She then decorated the cake with berries and flowers – she even arranged with the florist to collect the surplus flowers from our bouquets so that everything tied together.<\/p>\n

The whole thing looked amazing. I loved the fact that each tier was a different flavour – Madeira, chocolate brownie and lemon drizzle. I\u2019d also found Sylvanian Families figures to place on top of the cake, as our daughter loves playing with them. There was a bride, groom and small bridesmaid to represent Edie.<\/p>\n

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | We knew that we wanted an alternative photographer – neither of us like posing for photos and we didn\u2019t want lots of posed shots and waiting around on the day. We wanted someone to blend in and really capture the day (moments we wouldn\u2019t necessarily see or remember).<\/p>\n

I searched the internet and looked at a few. Once I came across Becky\u2019s website I knew she was the one we wanted! Luckily she had availability and we have never looked back! She is AMAZING!<\/p>\n

Becky felt like a friend and guest on the day, and her photos are beautiful. She is a very talented lady!<\/p>\n

THE DETAILS & D\u00c9COR | Orange Tree Weddings styled and catered our reception, They used their vintage fabrics, lighting, personalised chalkboards, furniture and props to create a quirky summer fete.<\/p>\n

We added personal touches like photos of Edie and our \u2018Selfie\u2019 table plan.<\/p>\n

We also made the fete games for outside and OT arranged them on the day e.g. tin can alley, coconut shy, ball in a bucket. Hoopla was decorated with photos of Tim\u2019s favourite Nottingham Forest players.<\/p>\n

OT also decorated outside with vintage furniture, bunting, chalkboards and our very own BBQ and ice cream tent! The centre pieces were jam jars filled with flowers and chalkboards (our tables were named as place that are significant to us). We stamped guests\u2019 names onto brown luggage tags to use as place settings (each tag had a raffle ticket attached for our raffle- alternative to favours).<\/p>\n

During the speeches, Tim organised a raffle. Prizes included cinema tickets, 20-20 cricket tickets and a tin of beans!<\/p>\n

FOOD | OT Weddings catered and provided the bar\/drinks for the day. We decided on a BBQ with lots of salads for our day time guests. Dessert was a visit to our ice cream tent after the speeches.<\/p>\n

In the evening we had pulled pork rolls and margarita pizza slices.<\/p>\n

OT had a cocktail list of cocktails we had chosen beforehand\u2026 the Sailor Jerry Mojitos were amazing!<\/p>\n

On arrival, guests had cocktails\/Pimms and bags of popcorn or retro sweets.<\/p>\n

THE HONEYMOON | We spent a couple of days in the Lake District but the three of us will be going to Ibiza in the summer. <\/strong><\/p>\n

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Seeing each other in church!<\/p>\n

Travelling with our guests to the reception on our vintage Barton bus.<\/p>\n

The East Midlands\/North-West dance-off, organised by our very cool band, After Party.<\/p>\n

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Try not to become too stressed in the build up – all of those little details you worry over seem insignificant on the day. Spend time with each other, the day goes far too quickly!<\/p>\n
