I really resonated with this bride and groom. You see they had a big wedding planned but they had a change of heart after feeling anxious and opted for an intimate and fuss free celebration instead. Their wedding turned out just perfectly and was true to them as a couple.<\/p>\n

WWW readers Kirsty and Ross tied the knot on Friday 8th<\/sup> April 2016 at Ordsall Hall and for their evening meal they headed to Artisan in Manchester. Their day was packed with personality and all the little things that are super important to them both. For example the epic Labyrinth cake had special meaning for Kirsty and guests wore red glitter heart brooches to reflect their proposal story.<\/p>\n

Kirsty looked so gorgeous in her beaded ASOS gown which she teamed with a dried flower bouquet and gold glitter heels. Ross wore a blue suit from Slaters accessorised with tan shoes and peach tie. You’re going to just love this super sweet day.<\/p>\n

THE PROPOSAL | We don\u2019t have big proposal story \u2013 it was laid back and low key which I think set the tone for our big day! We got engaged in our living room in August 2014, and Ross proposed with a glittery red heart necklace from Tatty Devine, as he let me pick my ring. We ended up buying my sister one which she wore on the wedding day, and our other guests wore red glitter heart brooches instead of buttonholes.<\/p>\n

THE VISION | Originally, we had a much bigger wedding planned. However, we\u2019re both quite shy and I ended up getting quite anxious about it all. We decided then that we\u2019d have a small, laid back wedding that would hopefully be fun for everyone involved and take the pressure of us a little.<\/p>\n

THE PLANNING PROCESS | I\u2019m a bit of a perfectionist, and like to get things done all at once, but planning a wedding taught me you can\u2019t always do that! It also meant that I probably looked at every venue in the North, before deciding on Ordsall Hall \u2013 ten minutes away from home! Once we\u2019d decided we were going for a small wedding, it made it easier for us to focus on adding small details that we felt represented us (such as the card game we created with our wedding party as characters).<\/p>\n

BUDGET | We didn\u2019t have a set budget, but we ended up spending around \u00a315,000.<\/p>\n

THE VENUE | Our reception was held at Ordsall Hall, a lovely Tudor Manor with beautiful gardens in Salford. I\u2019d been a few times before for concerts and visits, but didn\u2019t realise they held weddings, When I found out, I knew that was the place! Sue, the wedding co-ordinator, is the loveliest person and she looked after so well on the day \u2013 we couldn\u2019t be more grateful!<\/p>\n

For the evening meal, we wanted somewhere that wouldn\u2019t serve the typical wedding meal. We chose Artisan because the food is amazing, the d\u00e9cor is super stylish and (as luck would have it) they have private rooms! They were incredibly helpful, and made us feel so special on the night. It felt like we were the only people in the restaurant.<\/p>\n

We also loved that both venues are places we can visit again and again and relive our special day!<\/p>\n

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | I ended up with a dress from ASOS as my wedding dress. I wore gold sparkly shoes from BHLDN, a red heart bag from Selfridges, a bracelet and earrings gifted to me by my Mum and a Garnet heart necklace Ross gave to me on the day.<\/p>\n

FINDING THE DRESS | I knew I wasn\u2019t going to end up with a typical wedding dress. I love bridal gowns, but I just didn\u2019t feel they suited me. I was also too much of a wimp to visit any bridal shops! I actually ended up with a few options for a wedding dress, mostly from high street brands. Then I saw a nude, embellished floor length dress on ASOS and knew it was the one for me. I wasn\u2019t sure whether I should have gotten a dress that was properly fitted to me (and that\u2019s something I might have done differently), but everyone loved it and I felt comfortable and, most importantly, like a bride. Not bad for a bargain dress!<\/p>\n

GROOM\u2019S ATTIRE | Ross, Mike (the Best Man), my Dad and his Dad all wore Blue three piece suits from Slaters with pale pink ties, white shirts and brown shoes. I think they all looked pretty dapper!<\/p>\n

THE READINGS & MUSIC | We chose to have the wonderful Dotted Crochets play at our wedding ceremony and drinks reception. They have an amazing repertoire, and we loved picking out the songs! Despite Ross wanting me to walk down the aisle to the Jurassic Park theme, I actually walked down to Hoppipolla by Sigur Ros and we walked out to Friday I\u2019m in Love by The Cure.<\/p>\n

Our readings were an excerpt from Stardust by Neil Gaiman and a poem by Tyler Knott Gregson, read by Laura and Mike.<\/p>\n

In the evening, I made a playlist of songs including the likes of Nick Cave, The Ramones, Belle and Sebastian and even the Father Ted theme tune. It seemed to go down well!<\/p>\n

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | As our wedding was only small, I only had one bridesmaid \u2013 my lovely sister, Laura, but she did the job perfectly on her own.<\/p>\n

THE FLOWERS | Being a hayfever sufferer, I wanted to try and avoiding being a bleary-eyed bride. I decided to go for dried flowers, as this also meant I could keep my flowers after the wedding. Florence and Flowers made mine and Laura\u2019s bouquets, as well as table decorations for Artisan and a buttonhole for Ross.<\/p>\n

THE CAKE | The cake was a dream come true. Tracey at Little Cherry Cake Company is a genius, and made us an amazing Labyrinth cake, that featured the iconic worm and his missus! Labyrinth was a huge part of my childhood, and David Bowie as Jareth was probably my first crush, so the cake was pretty special! Not only did it look amazing, but I can honestly say it was the nicest cake I\u2019ve ever eaten.<\/p>\n

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | We knew as soon as we saw Cassandra Lane\u2019s photography that we really wanted her to photograph our wedding. Her style is relaxed and focuses on the details, capturing people naturally during the day. Being people who hate being photographed, this was a big plus for us! She really put us at ease, and was such a pleasure to have around on the day. Oh, and she loves Star Wars, which was a big plus!<\/p>\n

The same can be said for our videographer, Jo Gendle. We met up with her a few times before the wedding, and she really listened to what we wanted and gave us a video that we adore and will watch over and over again.<\/p>\n

The photos and the video were a great investment for us, because they captured things we didn\u2019t see on the day as we were in our own little loved up bubble.<\/p>\n

THE DETAILS & D\u00c9COR | The d\u00e9cor was quite simple, as both venues were already so beautiful. Sue arranged gorgeous floral displays at Ordsall Hall to match our colour scheme of blue and pale pink.<\/p>\n

We are unashamed nerds, and knew we weren\u2019t going to be exactly traditional from the start. I designed our wedding stationery, which depicted us as (cute) monsters. Our favour bags had a little bit of everything we love, including fox shaped seed planters, a cookie set, tea, heart shaped sugar and a card game I designed. Instead of a guest book, we had a poster that our guests coloured in and left short messages on, which is now framed and on our wall.<\/p>\n

As well as The Dotted Crochets playing at our drinks reception, we also had a caricaturist who managed to draw everyone at the wedding, which they all loved. We also hired a vintage bus to take us all to Ordsall Hall and then on to Artisan.<\/p>\n

THE HONEYMOON | We had an amazing honeymoon \u2013 three weeks in Tokyo, Japan and Seoul, South Korea! It was the perfect holiday for us, and we will definitely be going back when we can.<\/p>\n

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | We all got ready together at our home (the entire bridal party), which was a little hectic, but also surprisingly relaxed. I think it helped us not to get too nervous beforehand.<\/p>\n

My Mum and Dad both walked me down the aisle, and it meant the world to me having them both with me as I walked down to be married.<\/p>\n

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | My main piece of advice would be to have your wedding however you want to have it. I got so stressed out trying to please everybody, and in the end we created a day that everyone loved by doing what we wanted.<\/p>\n

I\u2019d also say that if, like us, you hate being photographed, and engagement shoot is a great idea. We had one with Cass at Jodrell Bank and it really helped us to understand what to expect and how to be a bit more comfortable in front of a camera.<\/p>\n

Finally, enjoy your day. Wedding planning is stressful, but when the day comes, just smile and enjoy it. Things will inevitably go wrong, but it\u2019s one of the happiest days of your life, celebrating your relationship with all the people you love, and it goes by so fast, so relax and enjoy. And a little champagne helps to calm the nerves!<\/p>\n
