Hello everyone! My name is Helen and I run Lily and Jack\u2019s Paper Studio, a wedding stationery design service based in the beautiful Lake District, Cumbria. Originally from Devon, I moved to Cumbria 11 years ago. My love of the mountains brought me here. I\u2019m married to Bryan who works instructing in the outdoors. Then there is our 4 year old Golden Retriever Sam, who keeps me fit!<\/p>\n

What do you love and dislike about your job?<\/h2>\n

There are so many aspects of my job that I love \u2013 firstly getting to design and produce all this stationery. I love working under pressure (okay maybe slightly mad!) it certainly helps when meeting tight deadlines which happens quite a lot. Being my own boss and being able to create what I want and what I feel customers want. I love hearing the ideas for bespoke design too and turning them in to a finished article. I even love it when I hear I have made some customers cry (in a good way!) Overall, the variety that comes with this job is something else. I get to interact with the most wonderful customers and work in the best industry around. I can\u2019t list anything I dislike as there isn\u2019t to put it simply!<\/p>\n

How did you get into the wedding industry?<\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

I have a background of Graphic Design and Art and having designed my own wedding stationery as well as friends and families, it just seemed right and ideal for me to start my own business. I had such positive feedback from guests for these and this only added fuel to the fire for the idea of starting my own wedding stationery design business. I absolutely loved planning my own wedding (much to the shock of others!) so to combine design and weddings is simply brilliant. I feel I have the best of both worlds \u2013 being creative and working for the wedding industry!<\/p>\n

Tell us about your typical working day.<\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

Well first of all, every morning is started by taking Sam out for a walk! The rest of the day is so varied from answering email queries, postal runs, working on client proofs, new designs and product photography, then of course the inevitable and unavoidable admin. Plus another walk or run for Sam added in somewhere!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

If you could choose another role in the wedding industry what would it be?<\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

Firstly, I\u2019m not the world\u2019s greatest baker (I do try!) so it wouldn\u2019t be wedding cakes\u2026 Can\u2019t sing so wouldn\u2019t be a wedding singer\u2026 I guess with being so creative and having a great eye for detail, I would say wedding styling. To create the dream day for couples by reflecting the visions they have would be pretty amazing. But right now I am extremely happy with designing wedding stationery and couldn\u2019t feel more blessed with the opportunity I have. To say I love my job is a slight understatement!<\/p>\n

What do you aim to achieve for your clients?<\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

First and foremost, to make the process of ordering and designing your stationery as stress-free as possible, plus fun! What I learned from organising my own wedding is to enjoy the process and to put yourself under as little pressure as possible. It makes the whole journey so much more rewarding so I remember this when dealing with each and every customer, I want them to enjoy this journey and for me to be apart of it, makes me feel very special and thankful indeed. It is something I certainly don\u2019t take for granted.<\/p>\n

How would you describe your style in three words?<\/h2>\n

Could you tell us some information about your packages\/prices?<\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

I offer two services for clients, firstly ready-made collections and then a bespoke design service for bride and grooms who want something completely unique. With such variables and every customer wanting something different such as sizes and paper type, I work out the pricing with each individual customer. I offer everything from the initial Save the Date\u2019s to on the day items such as table plans and menus.<\/p>\n

Do you have any tips for couples in selecting their wedding stationery?<\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

It\u2019s so easy to stick with tradition and go with a certain theme, don\u2019t be afraid to mix things up. Not everything has to match. If you love a certain design but feel it doesn\u2019t match with your d\u00e9cor, don\u2019t worry, be different! As long as you and your partner are happy \u2013 that\u2019s all that matters!<\/p>\n

Are you seeing any trends for the year ahead?<\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

Generally I don\u2019t follow trends too much. Year-round I try and provide customers with a real varied collection of designs and try to keep them fresh and modern. My inspiration for these can come from anywhere and everywhere, from looking out of the window in my studio to a trip I have just been on.<\/p>\n

Can you give us a teaser about what you are working on now?<\/h2>\n

 <\/p>\n

Oooh yes\u2026 Well I am currently working on a bespoke destination invite for a couple who are getting married in Mexico. Alongside that I have a new design to get photographed and added to the website, plus next year will see me expand the range, so this is a working progress too, but this is staying hush hush for now!<\/p>\n
