We’re getting all chic in the city today with a really rather lovely London pub wedding.<\/p>\n

WWW readers Elodie and Bart tied the knot on the 22nd July 2016 at Stoke Newington Town Hall followed by a reception at The Londesborough. It was important to them that their celebrations were informal and personal. They decided against a colour scheme and went mismatched, complete with pastel bridesmaid dresses and hessian bunting. The lovely fresh blooms were arranged by Elodie and her mum, there were wine boxes turned into cards, cork place names and wine bottles table names too.<\/p>\n

Elodie wore the most divine gown with layers of tulle and cap sleeves, teamed with Jimmy Choos. Bart was suited and booted in a blue Paul Smith suit accessorised with a pink tie. So much style.<\/p>\n

THE PROPOSAL | Bart bought a beautiful late 1920s antique ring (he knew it was the one as it looked so much like a pair of my grandmother\u2019s earrings I wear often and love dearly). Feeling very smug after finally finding the ring it only dawned on him as he rode the train home that he now had to actually propose! He got really flustered and came home in a bit of a flap. It was just an ordinary Wednesday night, there was me (not looking my best) cooking dinner and Bart came in looking a bit shifty. He started saying things like \u2018you know how much I love you right\u2026\u2019 I asked him if he was ok, a bit worried that something was wrong! Before I knew it he was down on one knee telling me how much he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me. My first response (a bit shrill probably) was \u2018you\u2019re doing this now?!\u2019 He pulled out the beautiful ring and told me things you can probably only say at home if you are a reserved man (which Bart certainly is). It was really emotional, there were tears from both of us, and standing in the middle of our kitchen I\u2019d never been happier. We of course abandoned dinner, got spruced up and went out for a lovely meal. We kept the news just for us two that night, it was perfect.<\/p>\n

THE VISION | Bart is Dutch and they have very casual weddings, so I knew anything too formal would seem foreign to him. When we were at one of our favourite Sunday pubs he just looked round and said I wonder if they do weddings here. We enquired and the Londesborough immediately became our reception venue. I then build the rest of the wedding around this. Stoke Newington Town Hall being a 1930s building was perfect for the ceremony and only a 5 minute walk from the pub. The Londesborough has a mismatched, fun vibe so I went with simple lace and hessian bunting. I then used this same material to decorate jars for the flowers. I wanted the flowers to feel summery and fun and not be too formal. Therefore I wanted to create a wild meadow effect with the lots of jars down the middle of the dining tables and went for pinks, purples with dashes of white and yellow. Then, being in a pub, I used wine boxes for guest\u2019s cards, corks to make the place settings and wine bottles to make the table names. Each table name was one of favourite pubs in the local area.<\/p>\n

THE PLANNING PROCESS | I like to be organised so created a google doc to record my budget, and also a to-do list with rough time lines. I had a year and \u00bd to plan which was great as I could leave it for a few weeks when it seemed like it was getting a bit much. It meant I never got too stressed as I always had plenty of time.<\/p>\n

BUDGET | We started by thinking we would be around 20K. We came out at about 22K, so we were quite pleased really. We spent quite a bit on our outfits (the dress, suit, shoes\u2026). We also added a video which hadn\u2019t been in the original plan. This doesn\u2019t include the honeymoon(s).<\/p>\n

THE VENUE | The Londesborough was so organised and helpful; it made planning the day a breeze. They had the perfect combination of relaxed fun, but the white table clothes and seating plan made the day feel a little more English. And what\u2019s more English than a pub really \u263a.<\/p>\n

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | The dress came from Blackburn Bridal and I can\u2019t sing their praises enough. My seamstress was a miracle worker and the dress fit like a glove. I knew I wanted backless and I love all the lace detail, the capped sleeves and the beautiful buttons down the back. It was just perfect for me. I wore Jimmy Choo\u2019s, had a 1920s vintage bag, wore my grandmother\u2019s earrings that match the engagement ring so well, and borrowed a diamond bracelet from my Mum.<\/p>\n

FINDING THE DRESS | I knew I wanted a French designer dress, as my Mum is French. I started by thinking I wanted a boho styled dress. When I tried them on they drowned me, and it quickly became apparent that I needed a figure hugging dress unless I wanted to look like a 12 year old boy (I don\u2019t have many curves sadly). Blackburn Bridal has such a great selection of dresses and my Mum and I both knew when we found \u2018the one\u2019, and it was made by a French designer \u263a.<\/p>\n

GROOM\u2019S ATTIRE | Bart wore a blue Paul Smith 3 piece suite, Cheaney dark brown shoes with a pink Hermes tie. He quite simply looked amazing!<\/p>\n

THE READINGS & MUSIC | For the reading my cousin Sophie read The Invitation by Oriah. Its underlying thought is that by being true to yourself you are then able to really give yourself to another. I\u2019ve never read anything else that so clearly and beautiful describes what love and marriage should be. I walked down the aisles to \u2018Here Comes The Sun\u2019 by The Beatles. It\u2019s a song that means a lot to my Dad and I, and it\u2019s uplifting and fun, which is how we wanted the ceremony to feel.<\/p>\n

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | The bridesmaids could wear whatever they wanted and stuck to a pastel colour base. They all felt and looked beautiful (rather than all having to wear the same dress which I think is actually a bit mean). You could tell they felt great all day having chosen something that really suited and represented them.<\/p>\n

THE FLOWERS | I bought all the flowers wholesale and then made all the bouquets with my Mum the day before.<\/p>\n

THE CAKE | I wanted a naked cake as it also feels more informal. Clare at the Little Bear Cakery made the most beautiful and delicious cake! It was perfect and sat on top of a wine box to continue the theme.<\/p>\n

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Christian Olliver was just perfect. I first met up with Annie (and 2 of their beautiful daughters) to discuss the overall feel and theme of the day. Christian had already shot a wedding at the Londesborough and knew the area well. We also had an engagement shoot which was so needed and I wasn\u2019t comfortable in front of the camera at all. Annie and Christian have been the most amazing team and we have loved having them be a part of our day.<\/p>\n

We also have an 8mm silent film video (I can\u2019t wait to see it). We stole Cine 8 and the wonderful Andy from a friend\u2019s wedding last year which was so beautiful. We loved the old feel, wibbly lines and using real film element. Bart does special effects in film so he will also have all the raw footage so he can also create something from it.<\/p>\n

THE HONEYMOON | We went for a mini-moon straight after the wedding to Rome. We loved re-visiting Italy so much we changed our honeymoon plans (originally a road trip through the South of the US) and decided to go to Sicily and the surrounding little islands there. We leave in September and can\u2019t wait!<\/p>\n

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | My Dad seeing me in my dress. Walking down the aisles with my Dad to \u2018Here Comes The Sun\u2019. Bart tearing up when I entered the room. Seeing all my friends and family in one room. The ceremony, it totally blew me away! The speeches were all AMAZING (we were really lucky to know so many great public speakers). Interestingly the English went with funny, poking fun speeches, and the Dutch went for heartfelt more emotional speeches. Great balance!<\/p>\n

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Take time to enjoy all of it! The planning, talking about it with your other half, your friends and family, and of course the day itself. It really does go by too quickly!<\/p>\n

Make the day about the two of you. Tell people (in the nicest way) to back off if you need to. Just remind them it\u2019s your day, because it really is!<\/p>\n

You won\u2019t get to spend as much time with your guests as you would like, but make sure you take a moment with your other half to just say, yeah, we did it! \u263a<\/p>\n
