I really love the unique concept of this inspirational wedding shoot. Inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement Gwenda from Bohotanical Floral Design decided to curate a team of wonderful wedding suppliers to create exquisite fine art imagery. Think rich jewel tones in blues, reds and yellows for a luxe and decadent feel. The large floral arrangements really stand out and pop against the unusual and elegant gowns. Natural hair and make up looks work perfectly too alongside hand made luxury shoes for an old fashioned feel bridal look.<\/p>\n

The stationery was whimsical and delicate, with calligraphy lettering and raw silk ribbons. Pretty glassware and a vintage style cake all bring together the concept just so.<\/p>\n

“Back in my university days, I studied the History of Art & Architecture, followed by a Masters in Fine & Decorative Arts – it was during this time that I was first introduced to the Arts & Crafts Movement and I was instantly captivated by its ethos of truth to materials, quality of design based on form and function, and emphasis on traditional skilled craftsmanship in an age of profoundly poor industrial manufacture. The Movement established a new set of principles for both living and working, turning the home itself into a work of art. Charles Francis Annesley Voysey (1857\u20131941) was the architect of Greyfriars House (originally known as Merlshanger), near Guildford. It was completed in 1896 and stylistically, it drew on English vernacular traditions, as well as incorporating some elements of the continental Art Nouveau style. I remember studying the house (back in the days of library books and slide lectures!), so when I discovered that it is now a wedding venue who were keen to collaborate, I just had to assemble a team of wonderful wedding industry creatives and set about designing a shoot the reflected the aesthetics of the house and the principals of its design. My preferred floral style is one that is naturalistic, in a way that allows each stem to take the lead in its placement, creating a balanced asymmetry. Using garden flowers in rich jewel tones, all the arrangements were assembled in this \u2018truth to materials\u2019 way; as copper was one of Voysey\u2019s favourite materials, I used copper vases for the table decor.”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

“For the stationery I used 2 methods, one with a copper foil effect the other a soft calligraphy hand torn look. Both with an arts and crafts pattern to the reverse and tied with hand died cotton ribbon.<\/em><\/p>\n

The table set up was a mix of copper vases and vintage green glass wear. Green is my favourite colour and I collected these glasses from an auction and they really are my favourites so it’s great to see them making such a statement on the table. The florals and greenery were woven into the table with Gwenda’s stunning floral arrangement making a statement to one side of the table. We loved the idea of highlighting one side with the florals rather than the more traditional centre show piece. The windows were so amazing they needed to be centre of attention.”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

“When Lou invited us to take part in the shoot we knew it would be something awesome. We really loved the concept and the mood board for the project. It was something we wanted to be a part of for a while. We decided to capture the shoot on Kodak Portra 400 using our beloved Pentax 645n camera. Medium format film gives amazing tones and one of a kind natural look.”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

“I was delighted to be involved in this shoot. I loved the challenge of working with this different style. I moved away from realistic sugar flowers and the rustic designs I am well known for, to the simplicity of the graphical prints from the Arts and Crafts movement. I was thrilled with the results of a beautiful Arts & Crafts inspired cake that remains romantic with floral prints and deep rich colours.”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

“I loved the colour palette for this shoot and so for the shoes I used a combination of textures with the blue patent and blue suede with elasticated strapping in a muted antique gold across the foot. Softness was added to the style with the addition of a detachable cream chiffon flower on the side.”<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
