There is so much to love about this fab wedding today. From the cute red, white and blue Union Jack colour scheme to the farm setting and all of the personal touches.<\/p>\n

Rick and Diana were married on the 9th July 2016 at their village church and hosted a marquee reception on a field opposite their home. The location really made their day so homely and welcoming. They renovated their tractor to use as transport, had hay bale seating and DIY’d much of the decor too. The marquee really did look marvellous decked in rich red blooms, hessian and bunting.<\/p>\n

Diana chose to wear a stunning lace gown with a lace edge veil and cascading bouquet. I love the illusion back detail of her gown, it looked incredible. The gents wore traditional attire, while the flower girls wore white with gypsophila florals. Perfection.<\/em><\/p>\n

THE PROPOSAL | Rick is a farmer. A week before he proposed he carved out the words \u2018Di will you marry me ?\u2019 into one of the fields of crops on his land. I obviously had no idea about this. We had been at a local Point to Point (horse racing event) in April time in which Rick had bidded on a \u2018private flight over your land in a small plane\u2019 and won the bid. We flew up into the air (despite being rather an effort to even get me onto the plane due to light winds and this tiny little what looked like \u2018tin plane\u2019) on 4th<\/sup> May 2015. As we approached his farm I\u2019d just about got over the tiny plane scare and he was pointing out the fields, naming them as we circled the farm. I then thought I saw a flicker of writing and Rick asked the driver to go around again and \u2026.. There it was!!!!!!!! I was absolutely lost for words\u2026 apart from yes (with a lot of tears)!! We circled the farm lots and by the time we reached landing point, Rick was nearly being sick from the plane movement, nerves and a rather heavy night the previous evening (it was a Bank Holiday weekend!)!<\/p>\n

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We started to think about a date straight away and eventually decided on 9th<\/sup> July 2016 as despite Rick being a farmer \u2013 July is a fairly quiet month (waiting to start harvest at the end) and aside from Winter there isn\u2019t really any other time we could have fit it in. We knew we wanted the wedding to be handmade and rustic with a traditional marquee if possible. I asked for a sewing machine for that Christmas and my parents\/Santa very kindly obliged (lucky me!). From boxing day 2015 I started to make the bunting from the marquee. Colour theme had been decided on Union Jack colours as our house is full of it and we love the colours. Throughout the next few months I made over 100 metres of bunting. Other materials were wood, wild flowers and hessian. We chose the quiet flat grass field opposite our house for the marquee and from 2 months before (weather permitting) we mowed out our square twice a week for the marquee so that it would be really green for the big day. We planned for straw bales outside with blankets all in the colour theme. I made candle holders out of jam jars, washed, dried and sprayed lightly in gold and clear and then wrapping raffia around the tops. Planned to put these everywhere and ordered fake candle lights. Our invites were very handmade also \u2013 and took ages \u2013 we made tiny bunting for the top of the invites and attached it to all of them! For our order of services we also used cream card and brown string wrapped around the middle. The table plan was mostly hessian too. We made Sloe Gin, Blackberry Vodka and Raspberry Vodka with personalised labels. We bought our own beer and wine. Rick made the incredible bar out of pallets and we hung fairly lights on it. Ivy also played a big part on our big day! We had beer barrels next to the bar for the big day and Rick made a stand for these too. Ushers had red watering cans that they took round to top up guests!<\/p>\n

BUDGET | We tried our best to keep it near \u00a315K but it slightly exceeded!<\/p>\n

THE VENUE | Marquee in flat field opposite our house (and prayed for warm weather! You\u2019d think it would be a definite in July! Only just got it.). Straw bales outside the front of the marquee and various plants. Wooden signs made by us for bar, bogs, reception, parking etc. we got married in the church in the village and everybody walked back. We got our Fordson Tractor repainted blue with orange wheels and Rick and I were driven back from the church in the cab on the back (magical!). The tractor bucket was then used as the \u2018photo booth\u2019 and we put props (wigs, glasses and all sorts!) in a basket next to it with a big frame!<\/p>\n

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | My dress was beautiful and a bargain. Under \u00a31K it was thick old fashioned looking (Oatmeal coloured) lace. Plain in the front and a beautiful open back (netting covering). I loved it the moment I put it on. I had a veil too \u2013 that just came down to below my backside with gold beautiful detail around the edge and a front bit that went over my face on the way into the church (wanted to have that ever since seeing Kylie and Jason get married in Neighbours (Charlene and Scott) when I was a child!). Otherwise I had a garter (borrowed from my sister), a tiny pretty hair clip (with a blue diamond ribbon on \u2013 also from my sister), some new pearl hair clips, a pearl necklace (that belonged to Rick\u2019s grandma) wrapped around my wrist and an antique small handbag given to me by my now mother in law.<\/p>\n

FINDING THE DRESS | My mum and me started our dress hunting in July 2015. We went to a couple of shops first but all of the dresses were thick material and kind of samey\u2026 I did a bit of looking on the intranet for what I wanted and found Serendipity Brides in Weedon, Northampton. They had more like what I was looking for so we went there and it was the second dress I tried on. It wasn\u2019t much on the rail but once it was on it looked incredible and very rustic but in a really beautiful way. Perfect for our wedding.<\/p>\n

GROOM\u2019S ATTIRE | Rick wore classic tails, with grey striped trousers and his buttonhole was a large red rose with ivy and green leaf. He wore a white shirt and deep red tie with a navy waistcoat (looked gorgeous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!). The ushers had cream large roses with ivy and green leaf for their buttonholes and the dads and Rick\u2019s brother also blue waistcoats.<\/p>\n

THE READINGS & MUSIC | Dad did the first speech (which was lovely \u2013 lots of childhood memories), Rick did a lovely speech and it made me cry (!!!! Which doesn\u2019t happen easily!) and then Rick\u2019s brother and sister both did a speech (both lovely and funny). Music \u2013 mostly from the 90\u2019s as that\u2019s the best year for music and we had a Chris Issac track (played by the band we chose) for our first dance. The band were amazing but if you want the name I will have to get it from Rick as I\u2019ve forgotten!<\/p>\n

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I had my three nieces as bridesmaids. They are 6, 4 and 3 years old! They looked adorable and every time I look at the pictures they make me smile! They wore simple ivory dresses and had gypsophila in their hair and bouquets.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not sure which section this should fall under but I also made the dogs (we have two female Labradors \u2013 black and Fox Red) some collars for the big day out of the bunting material. They were invited to the wedding party too so had to look the part!<\/p>\n

THE FLOWERS | The flowers for me, bridesmaids and groom\/ushers etc. were from our local amazing flower shop in Olney \u2013 \u2018The Flowershop\u2019. My bouquet was a \u2018shower\u2019 design and included deep red roses, ivy, gypsophlia and cream roses with other foliage. Bridesmaids has gypsophlia bunches, grooms had button holes with Roses and foliage and mother in laws had sprayed cream roses with green as their corsages.<\/p>\n

The flowers for the marquee were mostly wild but we purchased some Lillies and other nice deep red and cream and a bit of blue from the marquee to mix in with the wild flowers. We decorated the church also with big bunches displayed in the corners and on the windowsills. The entrance had a wreath of ivy around it with cream roses decorating it.<\/p>\n

THE CAKE | The cake was given to us as a wedding present by one of our closest friends. She is a fantastic caterer and her company is called \u2018Goodies\u2019 (Sarah Hollowell, Northampton based). The cake was out of this world \u2013 3 tier with all personalised additions made in icing and painted onto it. Union Jack bunting featured too. There was a tractor, our two dogs, our cat, my horse, our house, our initials, some wheat grass\u2026 and whatever else you can see but it was truly what we wanted and had different flavours \u2013 one bit was chocolate brownie (Sarah\u2019s finest), one Lemon sponge and one fruit.<\/p>\n

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Our photographer was the best. She has completely captured our day and all the happiness that went along with it we\u2019ve had SO MANY laughs looking at the pictures and plan to have an album created from them. Her name is Hannah Walker and she is a very talented young lady and I would recommend to anybody.<\/p>\n

We also had a videographer, who was also a guest at the wedding. He also did a fabulous job of recording our big day and has created a phenomenal video with a soundtrack of \u2018Jenifer Rush\u2019s Power Of Love\u2019 song including drone coverage and a lot of slow mo! Genius.<\/p>\n

THE HONEYMOON | We went to Italy for 10 days. It was beautiful \u2013 we travelled around the north west of Italy, along the coast, then into Tuscany (countryside), along to Verona and finally to Lake Como. Weather was stunning apart from last two days and we had such fun reminiscing about the wedding and felt over the moon with how everything went. Ate and drank a huge amount of Italian food and wine too it was fab!<\/p>\n

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Getting ready with Mum in the morning (just us two, it was special and good time together). I remember clearly walking into the church and being amazed at how full it was. I remember how happy I felt reading my vows and this finally coming true\u2026 everybody sang so loud in the church it sent a shiver down your spine. I didn\u2019t really stop smiling all day. There were so many hats\/fascinators and bright dresses, colours, which is just what I wanted. Popping the champagne on the back of the tractor and calling each other husband and wife. Champagne and canap\u00e9s! Walking into the reception together as husband and wife. Seeing everybody so happy for us. The speeches. The meal\u2026<\/p>\n

We absolutely rocked the night away too \u2013 I got changed about 11.30 into a short white dress that I got for about \u00a315 off eBay and my converse trainers. We were all dancing on the bar it was epic! Rick and I were last standing although probably Rick a little more worse for wear!<\/p>\n

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Get a date in soon as possible.<\/p>\n

Get \u2018Save the Dates\u2019 out sooner rather than later as these days people get so booked up! We got ours out over 10 months before to ensure that everybody could make it!<\/p>\n

Book the main things depending on what you are having \u2013 a band, marquee, DJ, toilets, caterers, church\u2026 HOTELS \u2013 we had a bit of a nightmare as it transpired that there were other large events around in the area happening and a lot of hotels were fully booked! We just got some rooms in time.<\/p>\n

Have a theme \u2013 keeps everything consistent and tidy.<\/p>\n

Make sure you have nothing to do the morning of the wedding so you can relax and enjoy the day from start to finish.<\/p>\n

Give ushers etc. a job.<\/p>\n

Ask everybody who is coming early the night before to help you finalise d\u00e9cor! Makes the job much quicker!<\/p>\n
