\"Whimsical<\/p>\n

A Yurt, balloons, bell tents, cake bake off and a super loved up pair of newly-weds. Yes. It’s time for Amy and Andy’s gloriously gorgeous nuptials held on a beautiful Spring May day. Their whole day, following their church ceremony, was an outdoor countryside celebration with a perfectly whimsical field location. They set up a really spectacular place to party the afternoon and evening away, which was packed with personality and charm by the bucket load.<\/p>\n

Think delightfully vintage afternoon tea, the most amazing array of cakes entered into the bake off contest, pastel coloured d\u00e9cor and stylish DIY stationery designs. Everything was so well thought through and executed, it’s no wonder everyone had a brilliant time.<\/p>\n

Amy donned a beautiful tea length frock from Fur Coat No Knickers, Andy went for bespoke Moss Bros attire and the maids wore floral Lindy Bop frocks. Didn’t they all look wonderful? THE PROPOSAL | After 3 weeks travelling around New Zealand with an estate car, a 2 man tent and an Esky of beers in the boot Andy saved the proposal until the last week when we were up in Cape Reinga the northern most tip of NZ. At sunset with our tent set up by the most beautiful waterfall Andy proposed. It was a great way to end a brilliant holiday and we celebrated with a night in the sky tower, Aukland before sharing the news.<\/p>\n

Andy had designed the ring and had it made by the wonderfully talented Matt Foster who also made our wedding bands, you can even go and forge them yourselves in his workshop.<\/p>\n

THE VISION | When we started looking at venues for our wedding nothing ticked the boxes. It all felt too formulaic and each venue came with its own set of restrictions. Being in our early 30\u2019s in that stage where all our friends are tying the knot (we attended 10 weddings the previous summer!). We wanted something where could make the rules, offered our guests a little something different but most of all a wedding that reflected us. We didn\u2019t want to have to turn the music off, the bar to close or the last taxi to have a time!<\/p>\n

We chose to start from scratch and hired a local farmers field down a long bumpy track, which meant we were away from the world and deep in the countryside.<\/p>\n

Our wedding was a complete blank country canvas and we had to source\/ hire\/bring in everything to transfer an overgrown field in to a whimsical wedding venue! We hired in the generator, toilets, bell tents for our guests, tables, chairs, and three beautiful wooden yurts to shelter our guests. It was then that we started thinking about the rest.<\/p>\n

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We took a year to plan the wedding as we wanted to get married in May and at the start of the wedding season. We love Spring and wanted to incorpoatre all the wild spring flowers to our d\u00e9cor. Amy works in TV production so is used to running the scale of a wedding every day of a shoot so all the key things were locked down pretty quickly!<\/p>\n

We have been together sice 2008 so we both had a clear idea of what we wanted from the off set. We started with a pintrest board with inspiration, favourite ideas, colour palette, general look and styling, and looking back on it now it\u2019s pretty much what we achieved.<\/p>\n

Having to dry hire everything meant a week of site management in the run up to the day. The yurts took 2 days to put up and we had to mow the fields back to make areas for camping, parking and making the site pretty! We also had to put up festoon lighting, signage, bell tents, as well as overseeing table, chair, generator, toilet, fridge deliveries to name a few!<\/p>\n

BUDGET | \u00a313,000<\/p>\n

THE VENUE | We wanted a church ceremony and so chose Mamesbury Abbey for our marriage service as it is not only beautiful but where Amy grew up.<\/p>\n

We knew the vicar and he allowed us to add our own personal touches to the service. We had a folk style band, congregation selfie and a our own Ipod set list for our favourite entrance and exit tunes. The service was relaxed and informal, full of laughter and loud singing which is just what we wanted.<\/p>\n

After the church we headed to Weavers Brook field for our DIY festival meets vintage afternoon tea reception.<\/p>\n

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Amy\u2019s dress was bespoke by Fur Coat and No Knickers. She knew she wanted a tea length 50\u2019s style dress with lace sleeves that would spin as she danced and the FCNK team were brilliant in creating the perfect dress. They suggested the peep toe Rachel Simpson shoes that complemented the dress perfectly and supplied the petticoat with added trim to add volume to the dress.<\/p>\n

Amy\u2019s clutch bag was from a vintage shop and we sewed a lace butterfly into the petticoat as the something old.<\/p>\n

FINDING THE DRESS | Amy went to one bridal shop and didn\u2019t enjoy the experience so went straight to FCNK after it was recommended by a friend.<\/p>\n

GROOM\u2019S ATTIRE | Andy’s suit was bespoke from Moss Bros in Electric blue. The grooms and ushers ties were made from the same print as the bridesmaid dresses, kindly made by Amy’s mum.<\/p>\n

THE READINGS & MUSIC | We went for more upbeat music in church, a friend formed a band to play our chosen Hymns in a folk\/rock style.<\/p>\n

They also played \u2018Fire in Your Heart\u2019 by the Super Furry Animals and \u2018Falling Slowly \u2018 from the musical Once.<\/p>\n

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Amy\u2019s four best friends from school. They wore 50\u2019s style floral bridesmaids dresses with net petticoats all from Lindy Bop. We bought an extra dress to cut up and make the men\u2019s ties and a sash for Andy\u2019s neice as flower girl.<\/p>\n

THE FLOWERS | Marion (mum of one of Amy\u2019s bridesmaids) created the bouquets and button holes, she does it for friends and family but should be a professional she was so brilliant. We couldn\u2019t have wished for a better result and she even supplied the little wax flowers, which were woven in to Amy\u2019s hair.<\/p>\n

Amy\u2019s god mother did the reception flowers, she too should be a pro!<\/p>\n

We loved that everyone wanted to get involved and help and it really helped keep our costs down.<\/p>\n

THE CAKE | We had a vintage style afternoon tea party full of cake! Amy is super competitive so we decided to have a \u2018bake off\u2019 inviting all our guests to bring a cake to the wedding to be judged and then served up as part of afternoon tea. Our favourite cake of the afternoon was crowned our wedding cake. In fact in the end we had 3!<\/p>\n

It was a great way to involve everyone in the day and we had some beautifully personalized cakes, cupcakes and even a bread and cheese tower we were still eating cake a week after the wedding.<\/p>\n

Andy hand crafted cake toppers of us, which were put on the winning cakes and we handed out prize aprons and wooden spoons for our bake off finalists.<\/p>\n

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | James Green captured the day beautifully. We wanted to be free to enjoy the day without having to spend a lot of time posing for photos. In fact my favourites of the day were us walking through the buttercup meadow. We had a few formal family pics outside the Church but group shots with our friends on a huge sofa made of hay bails covered in picnic blankets were fun and informal and brilliantly captured the feel of the day.<\/p>\n

THE DETAILS & D\u00c9COR | Andy is a graphic designer and so creativity and design skills were on our side. He designed and printed all the wedding invites and order of service, which had the same rustic theme running throughout.<\/p>\n

Andy also made the signage for the day, everything from general directions, photo booth etiquette and even the jam pots! A lot of detail went into everything including personalised name places for every guest with a little statement about them.<\/p>\n

We had a snug with a log burner, blankets, and deck chairs for guests to chill out and keep warm, which quite a few people ended up sleeping in and our sweet carousel and evening hog roast kept people fuelled for dancing!<\/p>\n

THE HONEYMOON | We (successfully!) climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, safaried in Kenya and collapsed for 3 days in Zanzibar on the beach. We wanted to do something memorable and watching the sunrise over Arfica on New Years Day is definitely a good honeymoon memory.<\/p>\n

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Andy did a speech and then a song, which was different, fun and hilarious all at the same time.<\/p>\n

We loved seeing everyone dancing in the yurt, we hired a local band who played fun cover songs from all ages that made sure the entire wedding party danced into the night. We also had a photo booth in the form of \u2018The Mighty Booth\u2019 where our guests could step behind the velvet curtains and loose themselves in a realm of silly fancy dress and we love looking back at all the photos from there.<\/p>\n

The love, laughter and fun made it the most memorable day.<\/p>\n

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Having a clear vision and sticking to it was one of the things that made it a success.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t worry about the weather\u2026 what will be will be and always go with your gut feeling. Listen to other people but everyone is always grateful for a decisive bride.<\/p>\n

Relax and enjoy it.<\/p>\n
