Not a good look for your wedding photographs!

If you have very dry skin, it shouldn’t be too much of an issue, but if you have combination or oily skin – or at very least a tendency to have any oily t-zone – I would definitely recommend wearing an oil-free moisturiser if you’re getting married on a hot or humid day. I always recommend a lightweight, hyaluronic acid based moisturiser, as these will hydrate your skin without adding too much oil… Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream is a great option, or REN Clarimatte T-Zone Balancing Gel-Cream.

Here are my top five make-up tips to ensure that you remain a glowing (not sweaty) bride!

Prime Prep

Start with a mattifying primer to absorb any excess oil from your face during the day and to help your foundation to ‘stick’ to your skin. I really like Max Factor’s ‘Facefinity All Day Primer’ as it really does help your base to last longer, plus it contains SPF 20 to reduce the risk of sunburn.

Becca ‘Ever-Matte Poreless Priming Perfector’ is a great choice if your skin is super oily – just dab sparingly on the t-zone and allow it to dry before applying foundation.

All About The Base

Apply a sheer foundation with a foundation buffing brush and blend with your fingers – for a hot day, I would recommend an oil-free, water-based formula such as Chanel’ ‘Vitalumiere Aqua’ or Giorgio Armani ‘Maestro Fusion Makeup’.

Blemish Free

Use a long lasting, waterproof concealer such as Tarte ‘Shape Tape’ to hide any shadows under your eyes, and a densely pigmented, slightly matte concealer to hide any blemishes – NARS ‘Soft Matte Complete Concealer’ is a good choice.

Powder Time

Now powder your skin to set your base in place and to prevent any shine – I’m a big fan of Vichy ‘Dermablend’ powder, a finely milled, invisible powder that claims to fix your make-up for up to 16 hours. Bourjois ‘Healthy Balance’ powder is a great budget alternative which comes in a handy compact, but it does contain talc, which can clog the pores if used regularly.

Powder is absolutely essential when being photographed, as even the slightest bit of oil on your face might make you appear greasy and shiny in your wedding photos!

Set Your Look

Finally, close your eyes and mist a setting spray lightly all over your face and eyelids to fix everything in place – there’s quite a few on the market but Urban Decay ‘All Nighter’ make-up setting spray is my personal favourite.

Catherine x

*This is the second in the wedding beauty and make up feature series from Whimsical Wonderland Weddings expert contributor and Make Up Artist Catherine Bailey Make Up Artist*

How To Stop Your Make Up From Melting Off Getting married on a hot day in the UK, or at a sunny destination abroad, can be glorious of course, but heat and humidity can wreak havoc with your bridal make-up, causing it to melt off your face.
