Prepare to fall hook line and sinker for this luxe, romantic and oh so glam wedding today. What a start to the week!<\/p>\n

WWW readers Laura and Nick were hitched on the 13th<\/sup> May 2017 at Manchester Town Hall followed by a good old knees up at Hope Mill Theatre. The couple plumped for an industrial vibes city affair filled with personality and style. There is so much to love about their awesome wedding, but I have to start with the dress.<\/p>\n

Laura fell for a 1940s vintage tasselled dress, which was so perfect for dancing away in the evening. She teamed her flapper style frock with a statement headpiece and peep toe heels and she looked sensational. Nick meanwhile chose a blue check three piece suit from Ben Sherman and tan brogues finished his look perfectly. What a gorgeous pair! The bridesmaids also looked super gorgeous in their pale pink off the shoulder frocks, which looked lovely against their pretty lily and peony bouquets.<\/p>\n

Next onto the reception, because boy oh boy did the venue look amazing! There were drapes, fairy lights and lanterns adorning the ceiling. As a back drop there were love letter lights and the tables were laden with crafty touches. Wow.<\/p>\n

THE PROPOSAL | It was November 2015 and we had just bought our first house together. We picked up the keys, ran around the house in excitement and then Nick asked me which room was my favourite. I said the living room so he said we should go there. I thought nothing of it at the time. In our new living room, completely empty, he got down on one knee and proposed. I had a new house and a new fianc\u00e9 all in the space of 10 minutes. Unfortunately, we then had to move house so celebrating had to wait a couple of days but it was a perfect moment.<\/p>\n

THE VISION | When we first started to plan, we envisaged a barn wedding with outdoor lawn games and a picnic, but then we remembered we live in Manchester, one of the rainiest cities in England. So we scrapped that idea and looked for something indoors.<\/p>\n

Once we had chosen our venues, we knew we wanted an industrial vibe that still looked like a wedding. We didn\u2019t go for one particular theme or colour combination; we just combined our favourite pieces from Pinterest to create our dream wedding. It was important to us that the day was fun and laidback, more of a party than a stuffy wedding. We didn\u2019t want an out-of-the-box hotel wedding.<\/p>\n

THE PLANNING PROCESS | Pinterest was really helpful for inspiration and collating ideas, along with wedding blogs. We only saw one wedding venue and one reception venue and booked them both. We also opted for an on-the-day wedding planner (Stef Elrick at Alternative Weddings MCR), who liaised with food vendors, flower suppliers and the venue to ensure everything went smoothly.<\/p>\n

BUDGET | Let\u2019s just say our first estimates tripled!<\/p>\n

THE VENUE | We got married at Manchester Town Hall. We wanted a traditional wedding that wasn\u2019t in a church. It is such a spectacular building and felt perfect when we walked around. The reception was held at Hope Mill Theatre. They had only held two weddings when we booked but we loved the space and the fact it didn\u2019t need too much decorating. There was no kitchen, which meant we were able to choose our own catering, something we saw as a huge bonus. We ended up with a pop-up pizza van, gourmet sandwiches, tagines and crepes, which the guests loved.<\/p>\n

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | The dress, a 1940s vintage number was from Glory Days Bridal in York. My headpiece was from Jannie Baltze, it was a Pinterest find and I just fell in love with it. I\u2019m fairly tall so didn\u2019t want high heels, however my shoes would be on show so I wanted something nice and opted for lace shoes by Benjamin Adams. Nick bought me some sapphire earrings as a wedding present to match my engagement ring and I wore my grandmother\u2019s bracelet.<\/p>\n

FINDING THE DRESS | I went to York with my bridesmaids and Mum. I wasn\u2019t looking for anything like what I bought but I fell in love with it when I tried it on. I was worried about it being short and a bit different but it was so comfy to wear all day and the tassels made shimmying on the dancefloor lots of fun.<\/p>\n

GROOM\u2019S ATTIRE | Nick wore a blue three-piece suit (Ben Sherman), with a subtle check running through it. He paired this with a flat-end knitted burgundy tie (TM Lewin) and brown shoes (Dune). Little details included matching burgundy socks and pocket square, bee cufflinks (the bee is an important symbol of the city of Manchester) and a pocket watch (Mondaine, a wedding-day present from me) to match his favourite watch (also Mondaine and an engagement present).<\/p>\n

THE READINGS & MUSIC | We were keen to make sure the readings and music reflected our relationship and spent a lot of time getting this right. Two readings featured in our ceremony, a slightly humorous but heartfelt passage from Lemony Snicket\u2019s \u201cThe Beatrice Letters\u201d and a more traditional wedding poem called \u201cThe One\u201d.<\/p>\n

As for the music, the bridesmaids and groomsmen walked down the aisle to \u201cDietro Casa\u201d by Ludovici Einadui (more commonly known as \u201cthat piano music in This Is England that usually signals something bad is about to go down\u201d). Then I followed down the aisle to Cat Power\u2019s cover of \u201cSea Of Love\u201d. We signed the marriage certificate with Ella Fitzgerald\u2019s \u201cLet\u2019s Do It (Let\u2019s Fall In Love)\u201d playing in the background and then left the ceremony to \u201cThere\u2019s Too Much Love\u201d by Belle & Sebastian. We met at a Belle & Sebastian disco so knew we wanted them to feature on the big day.<\/p>\n

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | My bridesmaids were my sister, a friend from my home town and two friends I went to uni with. They wore a dusty pink Bardot style dress from Chi Chi London. They all looked beautiful and threw an incredible hen do. My niece and two nephews made the most adorable flower girl and page boys.<\/p>\n

THE FLOWERS | For the bouquets, we had a mixture of lilies, roses, eucalyptus and peonies. We had succulents in terrariums to decorate the tables, with eucalyptus running the lengths of the table centres. Stef from Alternative Weddings MCR made them and did an amazing job. We went to the wholesalers with her two weeks before the wedding to pick out exactly what we wanted.<\/p>\n

THE CAKE | Our friend Vikki made our cake. We had a carrot cake soaked with Pedro Ximenez sherry and a lemon drizzle cake drizzled in Limoncello. Both were incredible. The third tier was a soft cheese to go with our cheese board (all from The Cheese Hamlet in Didsbury).<\/p>\n

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | The super talented Emma Boileau took our pictures with Steve Arnold as our second shooter and photobooth. I can genuinely say Emma was one of the best finds of the entire wedding. We love her photographs, which feel like a fly-on-the-wall document of the day rather than a series of posed pictures. She does amazing things with natural lighting too!<\/p>\n

THE DETAILS & D\u00c9COR | I handmade some of the d\u00e9cor including some paper tassels and table names. We spray-painted a friend\u2019s old bike wheel for the table plan. The terrariums were actually candle holders from Tesco that we tilted to create terrariums. They were about a quarter of the price of standard terrariums. We rented the lanterns and candle holders from Something New Wedding Planners. We used the lanterns in both the Town Hall and the reception and they worked so well in both.<\/p>\n

THE HONEYMOON | We spent three weeks in the USA. Starting off in New York, followed by Seattle and then driving down to San Francisco with plenty of beautiful stops en route including a cabin in the woods and a hot tub overlooking the sea. We finished off in Vegas with a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon. It was amazing.<\/p>\n

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | The band Jukebox were superb and really got everyone dancing. We wanted a big party in the evening and they definitely delivered. The speeches were all hilarious. I loved all three. And everyone still talks about the cheese board! One particularly special moment came out of sight of everyone else. On the way from the ceremony to the reception we detoured to the Star & Garter, the gritty pub where we first met. We were just going to get some photos outside but then heard movement behind the door so knocked on and the staff allowed us in to take some pictures on the dancefloor where we first met. The lighting inside combined with the fact that the location meant so much to us, made for some special pictures.<\/p>\n

We also wrote our own vows, which made the ceremony feel extra special (and emotional!).<\/p>\n

We had a peculiar moment just after getting married. There was a Transylvanian festival outside the Town Hall and when we walked out, covered in confetti, a man from the festival pushed through the crowd to shake our hands and tell us he had just been knighted. It made for a funny photo.<\/p>\n

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Don\u2019t get too bogged down with the small details. A lot of hours I spent on DIY craft wasn\u2019t even noticed; I\u2019d rather have those hours back. Get the main things like the venue, band and food right and the day will be amazing.<\/p>\n
