This free spirited pair had firm ideas about their relaxed bohemian style nuptials, and it all centred around a scenic outdoor ceremony and close loved ones surrounding them.<\/p>\n

WWW readers Gordon and Stephanie were hitched on the 24th June 2017 at The Cow Shed, Crail<\/a> in Scotland. The venue fulfilled Stephanie’s dream of a field wedding and more. I mean what’s not to love about the stone barn and surrounding countryside? Style wise the couple wanted to create clean lines with a muted colour palette of greens and whites. Eucalyptus took centre-stage with the gorgeous foliage used throughout to great effect. Uber cool.<\/p>\n

Bride Stephanie was certainly up for the challenge of getting her craft on, not only did she make her incredibly beautiful gown, but she also created the stationery and learnt calligraphy especially. The result was just stunning. The gents all looked really smart in their chosen kilts, while the pretty maids donned lemon yellow.<\/p>\n

THE PROPOSAL | Gordon proposed in our living room on my 27th birthday. Despite knowing he had the ring (I chose it and knew where he\u2019d \u201chidden\u201d it \u2013 I\u2019d been trying it on nearly everyday for four months!). I still wasn\u2019t expecting it that day. I did wonder why he was acting so nervous in the morning. We were due to fly off on holiday that day but I knew we had plenty of time to get to the airport, so I wasn\u2019t in hurry for once. He threw his breakfast over his throat and kept telling me to hurry up as I had birthday presents to open. He presented me with my card and while I opened it, he left the room. As I pulled the card out, it read \u201cTo my Fianc\u00e9e\u201d so I looked up \u2013 a bit confused \u2013 and here he was, down on one knee. He looked petrified! So petrified, I had to prompt him to actually ask the question, to which I obviously answered \u201cYes!\u201d<\/p>\n

THE VISION | We wanted a very relaxed day, full of close family and friends. Someone described our day like walking into a pub and it just being full of all your friends, which was perfect, that\u2019s exactly the atmosphere we wanted! We had live acoustic music from The Hemingways during the day and a hog roast buffet in the evening… Kind of like camping-with-your-pals-chic.<\/p>\n

As my Granny Nettie will attest to, I have always wanted to get married in a field, underneath a big tree with no shoes on, so that was our starting point for the venue. I had to give up on my dream of a big tree, but I got my field and Gordon made us a beautiful wedding arbor to get married under, which was decorated with eucalyptus so it was probably even better than a tree. Eucalyptus was also a big part of day and we used it to decorate both the inside and outside of the venue, centre pieces, bouquets, hair circlets and on the invitations. I wanted everything to look very crisp and fresh, so our colour scheme consisted of white and green with hints of pale yellow. We wanted to keep things as local as possible, so we already knew who our caterers, florist, hairdresser and cake maker would be.<\/p>\n

I knew what kind of invites I was after so I wanted to do everything myself, including making my own envelopes, illustrating them and learning calligraphy to write names and addresses (Top Tip \u2013 never make your own envelopes and if you do, make your mum do it. Also, calligraphy hurts and takes centuries. Do not do this either). For our venue, we  ended up choosing the beautiful Cow Shed in our neighbouring village of Crail. We didn\u2019t want a wedding far from home as it was really important for us to have our grandmothers there and luckily for us, we\u2019re fortunate to live in the very beautiful East Neuk of Fife, which has a wealth of fantastic suppliers.<\/p>\n

THE PLANNING PROCESS | Erratic. Disorganised. Last minute. These all describe our planning process. We were excited to plan our wedding for about a week, even making enquiries whilst we were on our holiday. Then the day we got back home, we found out I was pregnant with our son, Sonny (I thought I was suffering from an extremely long hangover before the penny dropped). We managed to book our venue and band during those 9 months, but that was all and our focus didn\u2019t shift back to the wedding until after Sonny was born.<\/p>\n

THE VENUE | The Cow Shed, Crail. Being just a couple of miles along the coast from our house, it was perfect. When we viewed it, they hadn\u2019t even held their first wedding and what is now the large \u201cbarnquee\u201d was still a mud bath but we trusted the owners\u2019 vision 100%. And more importantly, it opened up onto a grassy area that looked out over the sea so my dreams of getting married in a field were still alive!<\/p>\n

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Having studied fashion at uni, I knew I\u2019d end up making my own dress. Not necessarily because I wanted to but because I\u2019m very fussy and I knew I wouldn\u2019t find what I wanted anywhere. Not that I was even sure about what I wanted. In the end, I went with a pure white crepe sheath dress with a low back and beaded crystal trim on the straps. It was \u201cfinished\u201d about about a week before the wedding, although I was still doing a bit of hand sewing the morning of. Nobody was surprised. Accessories-wise I chose a very plain veil from Enchanted in St. Andrews. It had a tiny bit of beaded crystal trim along the edge to complement the straps on my dress. After originally wanting nude Valentino Rockstuds for my wedding shoes and convincing myself and everyone else that they would be an \u201cinvestment buy\u201d, I ordered them up. But when they arrived they just couldn\u2019t handle my cankles, so they got sent back and were replaced by \u00a317 cornflower-blue New Look strappy sandals. A bargain, and they felt i, they didn\u2019t last long on my feet.<\/p>\n

GROOM\u2019S ATTIRE | It had to be a kilt! There was never any discussion. We found very handsome light grey ensembles from McCalls Kilt Hire in Broughty Ferry. To make Gordon and Sonny stand out from the ushers, the had matching ties in the same tartan as their kilts. Subtle but effective.<\/p>\n

THE READINGS & MUSIC | We felt our ceremony was going to be long enough as we were drinking from a quaich so we didn\u2019t have any readings during the ceremony. Gordon\u2019s mum is a fantastic singer so she was originally meant to sing \u2018Mountain Thyme (Will ye go lassie, go)\u2019 but it was far too windy during the outdoor ceremony so she reserved it for after the meal. I was piped down the aisle to Highland Cathedral and we walked back up the aisle to R. Kelly\u2019s Ignition (Remix) by the very talented The Hemingways. We\u2019d also asked Gordon\u2019s nephews if they would say grace before the meal, which they\u2019d personalised to us and read out between them, which was a really lovely touch.<\/p>\n

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I had two gorgeous bridesmaids, one beautiful junior bridesmaid and two adorable flower girls. My bridesmaids were my oldest friend Katy whom I\u2019ve know since primary school and my bestest friend from uni, Stephanie. I was so incredibly honoured to have these two with me to support me on the day as they are just two of the best girls anybody could ever meet.<\/p>\n

My junior bridesmaid Alex is Gordon\u2019s niece and she wore the cutest miniature version of the older bridesmaids\u2019 lemon maxi dresses. The flower girls were Gordon\u2019s youngest niece Sophie and my niece Layla and they just looked like perfect wee princesses in their white ball gowns from Enchanted Wedding Gowns in St Andrews.<\/p>\n

THE FLOWERS | The flowers were a massive part of the day for me and I am lucky enough to have a VERY talented florist for an auntie. Dana has been a florist for over 20 years but had just started up on her own with The Flower House. She knew what I wanted before I did. A lot of greenery with a few tiny daisies here and there. She completely transformed the venue by hanging eucalyptus garlands from the marquee roof and designing circular eucalyptus centre pieces. We had matching eucalyptus and daisy bouquets with eucalyptus circlets for our hair. The flowers were just perfect and I can\u2019t thank her enough for all her hard work.<\/p>\n

THE CAKE | We both knew from day one it was always going to be a Loren Brand cake. Loren lives locally and just makes the most beautiful cakes, which taste absolutely incredible and I\u2019m not even a cake person. We discussed some ideas and we ended up with a three-tiered vanilla semi-naked cake that she decorated with some eucalyptus to tie-in with the venue. The only problem was that her carrot cake was too delicious, so we ordered a separate cutting cake \u201cjust in case\u201d i.e., for me to eat after.<\/p>\n

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | We decided on Euan pretty quickly. His style was exactly what we wanted; laid-back, natural, not posed etc. and I fell instantly in love with his portfolio of work. It was really important, for me anyway, to have beautiful photos because Gordon and I are not avid selfie takers. There are probably about ten photos of us together and we only look half-decent in half of those. So my main remit to Euan was to not make Gordon look like a serial killer or me look like a gargoyle (we take REALLY bad photos). We also hired a videographer which, initially, Gordon was on the fence about but I\u2019m so glad we did! I found Darren from Made with Love films through Facebook as he\u2019d shot a friends wedding and I just loved it! It was almost like a mini-movie, not the cheesy wedding videos of old. Hiring a videographer was definitely one of the best decisions we made.<\/p>\n

THE DETAILS & D\u00c9COR | I am a victim of the Pinterest DIY wedding. I thought I could do everything myself and run a business and a home and bring up a baby. Just no. So THANK GOD for the Little White Cow. I originally only contacted them to get a hold of a few hay bales but after meeting with them and getting a few threatening looks from Gordon, we ended up enlisting their full services. They turned the venue into exactly what we were after and their ever-growing catalogue of props is pretty impressive. Very professional and very personable, every bride needs these two women on their bride squad. I cannot speak more highly of them and it was the best part of our wedding budget we ever spent.<\/p>\n

For favours, we got East Neuk Candle Co. to design a fragrance for our wedding day and we gave out mini rapeseed wax candles as thank you gifts.<\/p>\n

THE HONEYMOON | We spent two weeks in Playa Mujeres, Mexico with our 15 month old son who absolutely loved it! I, however, found out I was pregnant again shortly before we left, so I  really enjoyed not being able to eat any of the food or drinking any of the all-inclusive cocktails.<\/p>\n

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | My veil blew off numerous times in the hurricane-strength winds. There\u2019s a cracking photo of my dad trying (and actually succeeding) to attach it.<\/p>\n

I absolutely loved our ceremony. Iain Whitelaw gets you to write down three secrets you love about one another, which only get revealed during the ceremony which was hilarious. Definitely one of my favourite moments.<\/p>\n

During the ceremony, our son had had enough of not getting to stand with his mum or dad so he escaped the clutches of one of his aunties, walked up to the front and sat down on my train. It\u2019s such a lovely moment that thankfully Euan managed to capture on camera. It was definitely a memorable moment for a lot of the guests.<\/p>\n

Gordon\u2019s dad had a wee surprise for us after the meal and had written lyrics about Gordon, Sonny and myself to go with the tune to \u2018My Old Man\u2019s a Dustman\u2019 and had these printed out and handed round the tables. It was pretty surreal hearing a whole room of people singing about you, to you!<\/p>\n

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Enjoy your day!! If you need to take a time out, take a time out. It can get a bit much and you want to make sure you speak to everybody but in the end, it\u2019s your day. You\u2019ve spent months planning and preparing so just enjoy it!<\/p>\n

Also, don\u2019t make your own dress or envelopes.<\/p>\n
