Hollie and James wed in laid back style on the 12th August 2017 and created their very own venue, isn’t that special?\u00a0They hired a field, which only came with power\u00a0and arranged\u00a0everything else themselves. I think anyone currently in the planning process would agree, that’s no mean feat! Didn’t they do a simply brilliant job pulling everything together and creating the laid back, fun atmosphere they were looking for?<\/p>\n

The traditional pole tents and their contents are just charming. The mismatched wooden furniture, bunting, vintage china and floral touches make for such a wonderful rustic overall look.<\/p>\n

A more relaxed look was the order of the day for our bride too. Hollie\u00a0looks just fabulous in her Charlotte Balbier dress, which\u00a0she found after much searching for something which wasn’t too over the top. Perfect!<\/p>\n

THE PROPOSAL | James proposed to me on the day we moved into our first house together on 02.06.2016. He hid the ring in one of the kitchen cupboards and made some elaborate reason for me to look in there!! We were in the middle of writing the snagging list and I wasn’t very happy that I had to check an empty cupboard…that all totally changed when I saw the most gorgeous ring sitting there in its blue box. I think I definitely screamed and said yes straight away…he then reminded me that he hadn’t actually asked yet so got down on bended knee and that was that.<\/p>\n

THE VISION | We didn’t really have a vision, we just knew we wanted something relaxed and laid back where we got to make our vows to each other surrounded by the people we love and that everybody smiled, had fun and just generally enjoyed being each others company celebrating something amazing.<\/p>\n

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We made lists, lots of lists and did research on the internet and via social media. Due to our venue not being licenced we had to plan everything ourselves. Luckily we’re pretty organised people when it comes to getting things done so James looked after the main items – marquee, food etc. and I created all the smaller, finer details such as the invitations, cake, decor etc.<\/p>\n

THE BUDGET | We spent about \u00a320,000 on the wedding as a whole, we set off thinking it d be about \u00a315,000 but when you’re planning things yourselves its hard to know the cost of items when you haven t done it before. Venue – We found the venue through a company on social media. We actually only hired the field which came with power and the rest we did ourselves. The setting was absolutely beautiful with the added bonus of the farm house as a back drop.<\/p>\n

THE DRESS | My dress was by Charlotte Balbier. I must have tried on about 20+ dresses but just couldn’t find anything that I felt comfortable in. I m not really a dressy dress and heels girl, preferring flats and casual dresses. I totally fell in love with the dress when I tried it on, I knew I wanted lace and sleeves and this was just perfect. The lace was French and quite heavy, it was plain but really pretty. For my shoes I bought a pair of pearl decorated flip flops from Debenhams, there was no way I was tottering around in heels down a grass isle! For my jewellery I went to a local designer called Jodie Blair and she made my earrings and bracelet for me. I picked up the pearl theme again and had small drop pearl earrings and a matching bracelet. James also bought me 2 sets of pearl earrings as I have my ears pierced 3 times.<\/p>\n

GROOM’S ATTIRE | James knew what he wanted after spending weeks looking on the internet. He tried on one suit and the decision was made. He went for a tweed jacket and waistcoat with ink blue chinos and tan brogues. It just fitted perfectly with my dress and the atmosphere of the wedding. He did spend a little extra on a specially tailored tie and pocket square that made him stand out\u00a0from the ushers.<\/p>\n

THE READINGS & MUSIC | The readings were quite difficult to source as there isn’t a great deal of choice out there. We decided on a humorous one “He never leaves the seat up” and one that was more heartfelt “The One”. We thought both related to different parts of our relationship. The music was “Thousand Years” by Christina Perri, I just love that song and love the lyrics, it was perfect aisle tempo music too. We created our own vows as we didn’t want to repeat the traditional words. The vows came quite naturally to us and we followed the same template but created our own words. We think that was one of the most hardest things we’ve ever had to read out and to say it was emotional was an understatement but it was so worth it. We’d definitely urge other couples to think about creating their own vows!<\/p>\n

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | It was easy for me to choose my bridesmaids and I d pretty much already told them all before I’d even got engaged! I had my two lifelong friends, my sister in law and my best friend who was matron of honour. They are all pretty chilled out like me and knew I d choose something beautiful for them so they kind of left it up to me. Their dresses were from Debenhams and they were a lilac\/cornflower colour and part of the multi-way range. All of the girls loved their dresses and we tried lots of different ways to tie them so they could have something different but they actually all ended up wanting the same.<\/p>\n

THE FLOWERS | We knew what flowers we wanted from day one and I suppose that the flower choices led us on to the rest of the colour scheme for the wedding. We also knew we didn’t want to scrimp and save on the flowers as we wanted to fill the space so it brought the outside in and vice versa. We had lavender and gypsophila as our main flowers. My bouquet was a mix of both and the bridesmaids had bouquets of gyp. The florist was truly amazing, I showed her some pictures of the kind of thing I wanted (Pinterest was my best friend) and then she went ahead and created it. The marquee looked stunning on the day of wedding and it was nice to have a little bit of a surprise as we had both been there all day the day before setting things up. She totally captured the feeling of the wedding and loads of guests commented on how gorgeous the flowers looked. I also had a flower crown in my hair of gyp and lavender that the florist had made and the button holes were lavender and gyp wrapped in hessian. The flowers bring the finished look of the wedding together.<\/p>\n

THE CAKE | My friend at work made out cake and she did an amazing job. We have a 3 layered naked cake with jam and lemon fillings. It was then decorated with flowers and presented on a wooden log board. We served the cake as our dessert and every last piece was eaten.<\/p>\n

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | We found Rosie via social media and just loved the look and style of her photographs. Neither of us wanted posed photographs preferring the natural\/mid action shot. Rosie delivered on every level and was total joy to work with. She made us feel at ease, was super professional and organised. All the guests at the wedding said how wonderful she was!<\/p>\n

THE DETAILS & DECOR | We loved Pinterest for finding ideas and pictures. We used hay bales for seating outside covered in rugs that we begged and borrowed from family and friends. We also made a polaroid photograph washing line which the guests really enjoyed, we’ve now put all of these photographs in a frame so we can remember the day with a little more clarity as it does fly by in a bit of blur!! Some of the other bits we created ourselves were the photo frames hanging from the tree…so much cheaper than a photo booth! And our vintage ladders covered with the wedding pictures of our parents, siblings and grandparents. We hired some of our props and table decor from Linda at Pollyanna Vintage, she has an absolute treasure trove of bits and bobs so we hired her outdoor games, hessian runners, vintage bike and a few other bits and pieces. Linda also hung all of our bunting for us, she was just truly wonderful and I’d recommend her to everyone.<\/p>\n

THE HONEYMOON | We wanted to do a bit of travelling for our honeymoon so we hired a campervan and spent 3 weeks travelling through Belgium, Switzerland and Italy. It was the most amazing holiday and we couldn’t have wished for anything better.<\/p>\n

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | There are so many to mention but I have to say our vows are definitely up there at the top, so emotional! The speeches were also absolutely beautiful and really heartfelt. All the men aced it. Other than that, it was the fact that every time we looked around and took a moment to take it all in, all we saw were the faces of the friends and family we love with great big smiles and they were clearly having a wonderful time. That image will hold a special place in out hearts.<\/p>\n

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Just do whatever makes you happy. Be organised and enjoy every second it because it goes so quickly!<\/p>\n
