Over the last year I have seen a lot of Pantone-inspired greens with mixes of blush and these colours still continue in popularity; however for 2018 weddings, these colours are going to be taken over by mauve, plum and violets \u2013 the Pantone colour of 2018 being ultra-violet. For 2018 weddings<\/a> expect to see lots of purple flower inspiration; as well as wedding invites, table d\u00e9cor, wedding jewellery and bridesmaids’ dresses. Ultra-violet is a lovely rich colour for weddings and particularly looks fab with the metallics, such as gold, copper and silver.<\/p>\n

Ultra Violet Florals<\/h2>\n

Flowers suitable for the ultra-violet theme for your wedding could be; deep purple calla lilies \u2018Purple Heart\u2019 or the darkest purple possible such as \u2018Hot Chocolate\u2019, purple lisianthus \u2018Corelli\u2019 or \u2018Violet Vixen\u2019, hydrangea with various purple tones like the plummy \u2018Purple Prince\u2019 or \u2018Verena Classic\u2019, vanda orchids \u2018Blue Magic\u2019 and more lilac tones of scabiosa \u2018Clive Greaves\u2019, lilac freesia \u2018Blue Bayou\u2019 or lilac roses such as \u2018Ocean Song\u2019 or \u2018Purple Haze\u2019 \u2013 any of these flowers work great with the silver tones of senecio, populus or cinerea eucalyptus.<\/p>\n

As metallic continues to be popular, iridescent will also be growing in popularity; personally I can\u2019t wait to see more of this colour, think pearlescent or oyster shell, it works on so many levels!<\/p>\n

Botanical Vibes<\/h2>\n

The botanical theme continues with lots more \u2018all foliage weddings\u2019; from the bridal bouquet to the d\u00e9cor; this is most likely due to the popularity of outdoor wedding ceremonies, and this wedding theme of 2017 is not going anywhere, but just evolving. There will just be tweaks and fresh interpretations. Bouquets will be getting larger than ever, and cascading bouquets are making a strong comeback as well, with lots of seasonal blooms and plenty of foliage; this style being perfect for the bride wanting something loose and unstructured. Together with the foliage heavy bouquets, there will continue to be lots of lovely texture, which is always important to consider if you choose a mix of foliages of the same colour.<\/p>\n

More brides are asking for British-grown flowers with the free-form bouquet style, which not only can keep the costs down a little, but also help them achieve the relaxed, whimsical look they\u2019re aiming for. Good foliage examples to consider could be asparagus fern or umbrella fern, palm leaves, bear grass, wispy fountain grass, seeded eucalyptus and herbs such as rosemary, sage or apple mint, also the flowers \u2018Large White\u2019 astrantia, white veronica \u2018Tissington White\u2019 and the gorgeous \u2018Green Bell\u2019 also known as \u2018Thalaspi\u2019 is a lovely foliage and a great choice to add some texture. With the more foliage-heavy bouquets, we will also see more trailing silk ribbon, but also simple velvet ribbons included in the bouquets, buttonholes and corsages creating a wonderful feel of opulence.<\/p>\n

Flower Archways<\/h2>\n

Popular wedding ceremony arrangements continue to be archways at the top of the aisle; sometimes with the addition of chiffon to soften, or just a lovely ornate metal arch with groupings of flowers. Another new archway style are wedding wreaths or round arches, which are gigantic hoops covered with mostly foliage and sometimes flowers. I have also seen embroidery hoops hanging from walls, partly covered with mosses and ferns. Also the traditional – but still very popular – archways positioned outside the church entrance adding an ideal frame for the confetti shot, or positioned on a church lynch gate, is always a stunning arrangement to request from your florist.<\/p>\n

Hanging Installations<\/h2>\n

2018 brides have been requesting other amazing installations from the hanging foliage or flower chandeliers from venue ceilings or marquees, to arrangements on hanging planks over top tables. Another popular theme – which has its origins in the USA \u2013 are pampas grass archways \u2013 bit of an unusual foliage for a wedding you may think, but, if you scan Pinterest you\u2019ll find some truly amazing arrangements with these grasses \u2013 giving a lovely soft fluffy effect.<\/p>\n

Pastel Tones<\/h2>\n

Pastels continue to be popular for weddings, such as soft turquoise, lavender, sage green and grey; these shades really create a suitably romantic feel for a wedding. But we will also see bursts of stronger deep colours mixed in \u2013 such as deep burgundy or dark blues – into the more soft and elegant colours. For 2018, other popular wedding colours will be dusty rose – the new blush pink perhaps? – mauve and dusty blue, these colours work great with either neutral colours, navy blue or with the metallics \u2013 silver, gold or copper – as an accent colour. Flower varieties for the pastels are wide and varied with the most popular choices for weddings currently being \u2018Sweet Avalanche\u2019 and \u2018Quicksand\u2019 roses, \u2018Bombastic\u2019 spray roses, pale pink sweet pea, pale blue hydrangea, \u2018Sky Blue\u2019 delphinium, the soft pastel David Austin varieties such as soft peach \u2018Juliet\u2019, and \u2018Miranda\u2019, also the soft peach\/pink rose \u2018Angie Romantica\u2019, not forgetting a continued favourite of brides the exquisite dahlia \u2018Caf\u00e9 au Lait\u2019.<\/p>\n

Rustic Woodland<\/h2>\n

Woodland and rustic continue to be a popular theme for 2018, and some ideas which work well with this are the bell jar or terrarium, adding leaves, moss or foliages inside, resting on the ever popular tree slices. The rustic wedding bouquets will continue to include pheasant feathers with dried flowers which completes the look. Table wreaths are making a comeback avoiding the \u2018I can\u2019t see you across the table\u2019 issue and so brides are becoming more cautious about the height of the wedding centrepieces, opting more for low and long. Regular requests for foliage garlands \u2013 ideal on long banqueting tables – continue for 2018 as well.<\/p>\n

Industrial Chic<\/h2>\n

For the industrial chic theme \u2013 expertly blending modern with the old – or minimalist weddings then the chosen wedding d\u00e9cor is likely to be copper containers with geometric angles and shapes, metallic accents and sleek modern colours. So, what exactly is industrial chic? well, think whitewashed brick walls, structural metal beams, benches, or a warehouse venue. And so, for this sleek look, all you need are maybe some foliage garlands and glass containers \u2013 and instead of jam jars \u2013 brides will be looking to source more unusual and quirky glassware. Succulents worked really well with this style of wedding and for 2018 the cacti plant is the next big thing \u2013 maybe along banqueting tables or wedding aisles as opposed to bridal bouquets!<\/p>\n

What’s Out?<\/h2>\n

The massive trend of white gypsophila weddings – also known as Baby\u2019s Breath – will begin to fade out – including the mason jars and burlap. Instead of those giant balls of gypsophila, we will still continue to see this pretty flower, but just mixed in with more traditional flowers cropping up in larger arrangements such as longiflorum lilies and orchids. Incidentally, if you are already having gypsophila for your wedding in 2018, and lots of it – then ask your florist for the \u2018Mirabella\u2019 gyp, this tends to have a sweeter scent than the less smellier varieties; which leads me onto the importance of scent in a wedding! An evocative fragrance from the wedding flowers is becoming more thought about by our savvy brides and grooms, particularly with the popularity of the British blooms, which are more scented that the commercially grown Holland flowers. So, we recommend some of the following scented flowers to consider for your wedding: lilacs, garden roses, lily-of-the-valley, freesia, jasmine, sweet pea, peonies, gardenia, lavender and hyacinth.<\/p>\n

Weddings are becoming more creative than ever and the results are becoming ever-more dramatic to create that wow factor effect. The biggest and continued wedding trend in 2018 is definitely foliage \u2013 which will continue to play a very big part – giving the modern wedding a suitably whimsical twist!
