I’ve said it before but I do so LOVE a wedding at home<\/a> and this day has fun and personality in spades. With a relaxed time line and plenty of help from family and friends, Oliver and Rose’s nuptials look like they were an absolute riot. Our pair tied the knot on the 5th August 2017. After saying their “I dos” at the Talbot Hotel in Malton, North Yorkshire<\/a>, they headed back to Rose’s Mum’s garden for an afternoon tea reception with the evening party held at Brawby Village Hall.<\/p>\n

This homemade affair had a hint of wartime about it and you get a strong sense of it being a good old fashioned knees up! Don’t miss all the wonderful union jack and vintage details, my favourite is the handmade wooden photo booth.<\/p>\n

Can you believe that Rose’s gown is actually a bridesmaid’s dress?! She looks so glamorous in this Ghost number and what about the gorgeous tousled waves in her hair? Oliver looks incredibly smart in his ASOS Harris Tweed outfit and don’t the bridesmaids look just fab in their New Look dresses? So<\/em> summery.<\/p>\n

THE PROPOSAL | We actually met working\u00a0in HMV in lakeside in 2014, Oliver is London born and bred and I\u2019m a Yorkshire girl! We lived in the south for a while but eventually settled up north buying our house in West Yorkshire.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not going to lie the proposal was perfect! We were actually visiting London and going to a Cure gig on the 1st December 2016! We had a day to spare before hand so decided to go to Ashridge Estate which is where oliver took me for our first date two years prior. It was the most perfect day for a good walk, frost on the ground but sunny and bright just gorgeous! We took a picnic and sat in the same spot we had the first time we were there on a fallen tree with a beautiful view! We were just chatting talking about our new home and what not. Next thing I know Oli is stood in front of me getting down on one knee (in the mud ha!) and he asked me to marry him! I of course was a blubbering mess, literally could not stop crying but said yes as soon as I could actually talk! The ring was just as perfect as the proposal, a gold and platinum band with an original 1920\u2019s ruby set between two diamonds it\u2019s amazing and just perfect for me. The best start to our wedding journey!<\/p>\n

THE VISION | After the war, very homemade and relaxed we had afternoon tea for the wedding breakfast and ordered pizza for the evening food! Lots of Pimms too and Tunnocks Teacake favours! We also got small plant pots from Cancer Research with sunflowers in them as both our Grandads passed away from cancer, we made a donation for these. We wanted a different wedding to what was expected and fashionable, a relaxed wedding no proper timings or plans just go with the flow of the day!<\/p>\n

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We wanted to get married quite quick purely because we are impatient and didn\u2019t want to wait! We planned it in nine months and although it was stressful at times we both enjoyed it a lot!<\/p>\n

BUDGET | \u00a35,000<\/p>\n

THE VENUE | The ceremony was at the Talbot Hotel in Malton, North Yorkshire. The reception was in Rose\u2019s Mum\u2019s garden also in Malton. The evening reception was in Brawby Village Hall.<\/p>\n

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | My dress was by Ghost and was a bargain at \u00a3225 (it\u2019s actually a bridesmaid dress). The hair clip was from Anthropologie and earrings are Vivienne Westwood, the shoes are from Primark.<\/p>\n

FINDING THE DRESS | I booked a day full of appointments in York in January and took my mum and bridesmaids with me! Bridal Rogue Gallery was the last shop we went in and my goodness it was amazing! I found trying on in all the shops I was drawn to the silk dresses and this store was no different! I think because I haven\u2019t seen so many silk dresses around recently I liked how different it would be but also incredibly timeless! I tried on a few and it was only when my sister asked about a selection of bridesmaid dresses that I found my perfect option!<\/p>\n

Ghost London do a range of dye to order dresses which are available to order in ivory! I tried on a few different shapes and found the one I loved although the dress that I actually tried was blue! I decided I wanted it to be made much lower at the back than it originally was designed so the seamstress looked at it and said it would work to I ordered it! It took about 12 weeks to come and during that time I was massively panicking that I made a mistake with the dress! All I had was a few pictures of me wearing a blue dress that just didn\u2019t look right and I was so worried! Anyway! When it arrived and I tried it on I just fell in love with it it was literally perfect! I had the alterations done and purchased a long veil from them also which totally pulled it all together! I\u2019m so pleased I stuck with my original choice it felt amazing to wear on the day and such a bargain! I also ordered a spare dress from Chichi London to wear on the evening which was a short party style \ud83d\ude42 it arrived on our wedding day at my mums so it was a very last minute decision to change into it later on!<\/p>\n

GROOM\u2019S ATTIRE | Oliver wore a Harris tweed suit from ASOS (he wanted Vivienne Westwood but there were actually no interesting styles out at the time) with Dr Marten boots! He accessorised with mustard tie and pocket square from Moss which he also got for his groomsmen and wore a pocket watch left by his late Grandad.<\/p>\n

THE READINGS & MUSIC | We nearly had no music as the iPod with it all on got left in Oliver\u2019s chalet when they set off to the hotel! Luckily he remembered the vital aisle song and a couple of others to listen to whilst signing the register etc! I walked down the aisle to Sweet Disposition by Temper Trap and our first dance was When I fall in love by Nat King Cole. Oliver persuaded me to do a first dance as I wasn\u2019t sure about it at all but I\u2019m so so glad we did I just loved it and we got some gorgeous pictures in the village hall!\u00a0 The music throughout the day was from playlists we had put together. A mixture of music like the Beatles, Siouxsie and the Banshees and Brian Eno to name a few.<\/p>\n

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | my twin sister Abby was my maid of honour then my three best friends were my other bridesmaids. My friend Stef (bridesmaid) did the best speech for me it was just amazing!! They wore a dress from New Look and shoes from ASOS.<\/p>\n

THE FLOWERS | My Mum’s best friend was kind enough to do all my flowers with help from a few family members and friends! They were just stunning and mainly grown in her own garden! I couldn\u2019t thank her enough for them they were just perfect!<\/p>\n

THE CAKE | Oliver\u2019s dad George made the fruit cake and did all the decoration himself! It took him months to design and plan then a whole week to make! It was completely unique and he worked so so hard \u2018trying not to make it look like a child had made it\u2019 lol! We loved it and still have some in our cupboard!<\/p>\n

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Ahhhhh our photographers! What Can I say! I genuinely don’t think we could have found anyone more perfect to capture our day! Megan\u00a0and Scott (Fox Moon Photography) were the loveliest couple, so many of our guests thought we were old friends they mixed in so well with our wedding party! I met them at a very small wedding fair in Leeds that was shutting down when I got there! It was definitely fate that they were one of the only stalls still there and I\u2019m so so pleased that they were! Our photos are everything we ever wanted and we love them so much!!<\/p>\n

THE DETAILS & D\u00c9COR | Being in my Mum’s garden we could pretty much do what we wanted with the space! with our wartime theme we wanted Union Jack bunting and no real colour scheme! We made most of the decorations ourselves including a photo booth and movie quote chalkboards! The village hall was a bright affair very much \u2018more is more\u2019 we just wanted a fun party feel and I think it looked great (if not a little bit mental)<\/p>\n

THE HONEYMOON | We had 10 nights in Paphos which were just brilliant! We had the best time on an all inclusive holiday just relaxing together after the whirlwind that was the wedding! We left the day after our wedding day and I\u2019m so glad we did! It was wonderful!!<\/p>\n

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Seeing each other for the first time on the aisle! The first time we were presented\u00a0as Mr and Mrs Mcpherson. Having a drink together on a bench away from everyone after dinner just enjoying the moment together was bliss! Our first dance and the cake reveal!<\/p>\n

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | relax and enjoy it! There\u2019s no way to make everything perfect and you wont notice the small things on the day! I got bright red lipstick on the bottom of my dress before we even set off to the hotel but some handy sewing skills from my bridesmaid no one even noticed!<\/p>\n
