Happy Easter lovelies! What better way to celebrate Easter Monday than with this utterly delightful Spring wedding<\/a>, complete with cherry blossom (I cannot wait for cherry blossom to grace our trees again), cute sausage dog Alan and SO many smiles all day long?!<\/p>\n

WWW readers Alex and Jess were hitched on the 29th<\/sup> of April 2017 at Yeldersley Hall<\/a> in Derbyshire<\/a>. The venue was perfect for their personal day due to it’s flexibility, beautiful gardens and accommodation. These two wanted a day that had their personality stamped all over it, from the Derby County references to the sausage dog details. With live music during the day, a DJ at night with both bride and groom play lists and relaxed food served at tables; guests were suitably spoilt.<\/p>\n

One of Jess’ fave parts of planning was designing her own dress, what a gown it was too. She looked incredible right?! The boys were super cool in their bright blue suits, knitted bow ties and colour pop yellow buttonholes. In fact all of the bright yellow florals were a delight and really added a touch of fun.<\/p>\n

THE PROPOSAL | After being together for several years and going to many weddings I knew it was going to happen at some point soon- every holiday or weekend away I was anticipating it. What I didn\u2019t expect was to be proposed to in our dining room at 1am on a random Friday evening after a night with friends as we danced around being daft. Alex popped out for a minute and came back and got down on one knee; he had had the ring for months and was waiting for a time at home together which felt right. It was really intimate and sweet and best part, I was actually surprised!!<\/p>\n

THE VISION | After being serial wedding goers for the last few years we have really loved every single wedding we have been to and all the practice helped us to think about what we wanted for our wedding. We wanted it to be relaxed, fun and have lots of personal touches. Whilst we both have many things in common we also have our own interests and we wanted our individual personalities and that as a couple too, hence some \u201cclassy\u201d Derby County references throughout. I am not a football fan, but it\u2019s important to Alex and they say a happy marriage is all about the compromises!<\/p>\n

THE PLANNING PROCESS | We got engaged in August 2015 and wanted to wait until 2017 to get married to give us time to save money and have time to plan the day. For us having this amount of time meant that we could be relaxed and didn\u2019t feel pressured or rushed. We booked the big things; venue, food, registrar, photographer first and as the months rolled on the rest seemed to fall in to place. We are not very good at spreadsheets but I had a notebook that I would write lists and track the budget in and loved using Pinterest and other wedding blogs such as WWW for inspiration.<\/p>\n

We were also lucky to have our friend, Sally Bancroft, who works in events planning and has planned, set up and coordinated weddings. Sally was fantastic! She\u2019s a dab hand with crafts, an amazing eye for detail and she communicated with all our suppliers on the day, which meant we could relax and enjoy ourselves. She really helped us to pull our ideas together.<\/p>\n

BUDGET | Under \u00a312,000<\/p>\n

THE VENUE | Yeldersley Hall, Ashbourne.<\/p>\n

I went to a wedding at Yeldersley in 2014 and I thought it was such a lovely venue. We had several things on the list for venue criteria and Yeldersley hit them all; beautiful venue, relaxed approach, can get married there, can have it for the whole weekend, can bring our own suppliers in and very importantly, no corkage, winner!<\/p>\n

We really liked Andrew who runs Yeldersley and he was very helpful but he also gave us the space to decorate and make the venue our own, which we loved. The setting is beautiful, there are stunning gardens, ample inside space, a marquee and accommodation for 14, which was lovely as it meant that my parents and bridesmaids could stay the night before and Alex and I could stay there the night of the wedding.<\/p>\n

FOOD & DRINK | Yeldersley does not provide food and drink, but we liked this as it meant that we had a choice as to what suppliers we used. We went with Judith Mason at Strand Catering. We both really liked Judith straight away, she was friendly, helpful and honest and we felt we could be really open with her about what we wanted. We said we wanted a relaxed atmosphere without having a buffet so Judith suggested family style service where food is on the table and people help themselves. We had one server per table with an apron and a chef\u2019s hat, which made the dining sociable and was funny and a bit daft! We had lots of canapes at the drinks reception and then we had Lasagne for the main and Eaton mess for the pudding.<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve seen a lot of evening food get wasted over the years at weddings so we decided to keep it simple so my sister kindly bought us a load of Indian snacks from a shop in Leicester so we had those and cupcakes. We forewarned our evening guests to eat beforehand using our Wedding Website created through \u201cThe Knot\u201d so that people knew what to expect. Using The Knot was great as we could put lots of helpful details on there for guests and this helped us to pre-empt any questions people might have such as; timings, parking, cash\/card payments at bar, local taxi and hotel details and RSVP.<\/p>\n

My mum and step dad kindly did a booze run to France and made some excellent wine choices!<\/p>\n

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Elizabeth Malcolm Bridal Wear, Belper, Derbyshire.<\/p>\n

FINDING THE DRESS | I met Elizabeth Malcolm (Lizzie) a dressmaker at the first wedding fayre we went to. I loved her vintage inspired dresses, but most importantly I thought she was lovely, genuine and funny. A friend of mine had suggested getting my dress made, which it hadn\u2019t really occurred to me before that. So I went and tried probably about 30-40 dresses for inspiration. I was going for a very specific style but none of them felt right.<\/p>\n

I went and met Lizzie at her shop in Belper in March 2016 and she has several of her own designs ready to try on so I tried on a few and when I put the dress I chose on (as cheesy as it sounds!) I did well up! The dress was one of Lizzie\u2019s newer designs and she was yet to name the dress and my friend joked that she should name it after me; \u201cJessica Rose\u201d, and amazingly she did!<\/p>\n

The following week I went back with my mum, who gave it the seal of approval and I made a couple of slight changes to the back of the design and then in January 2017 Lizzie started to make the dress. The dress making process was the highlight of the planning for me and I would highly recommend Lizzie and getting a dress made. The amount of time and energy that Lizzie put in to making the dress was just incredible! Lizzie even came on the day to put me in the dress so it looked just right and I am so glad she did. It was lovely having her there on the morning as we had got to know each other throughout the process and she definitely helped me to feel calm and ready.<\/p>\n

Lizzie also ordered my veil and used the same lace on my dress to add the trim.<\/p>\n

I am not very good with heels or shoes so I got a pair from Tesco\u2019s for \u00a316. I think having a couture dress made balances it out!!<\/p>\n

GROOM\u2019S ATTIRE | Alex\u2019s suit was the first wedding item we bought. We went to America shortly after getting engaged and finished our road trip in Vegas. Alex knew he wanted a Ted Baker suit for him and his best man. We went to an outlet and saw his perfect suit in the window for a bargain so we had to buy it, and call his best man at some bizarre time due to time difference asking for his waist size! Both pairs of Alex\u2019s shoes were Ted Baker too, he is far more into shoes than I am!<\/p>\n

THE READINGS & MUSIC | We had two wedding readings; Richard Bach \u201cI like you\u201d and the song lyrics to \u2018Baby, I\u2019m yours\u2019 by the Artic Monkeys.<\/p>\n

I had really wanted string music to walk down the aisle too and ummed and ahhed about it for a long time due to the cost but it was really worth it in the end! We had a String Trio, Simply Strings, and they also played during the reception drinks, which gave a lovely atmosphere.<\/p>\n

We had \u2018Groovy Kind of Love\u2019by Phil Collins (My karaoke jam since aged 3!) to walk down the aisle too. We had The Ramone\u2019s \u201cBaby, I love you\u201d for the signing of the register and Alex\u2019s choice of Oasis \u201cWhatever\u201d to play us walking out.<\/p>\n

Choosing a first dance was really tough as although we both have very different tastes in music there are about five songs that we both love to dance to together. We decided on Baby, I\u2019m yours by the Artic Monkeys. Our last song of the night was Sexual Healing by Marvin Gaye.<\/p>\n

To reflect our different taste in music we both chose the music for half an hour each for the DJ. Alex had half an hour filled with Indie and 80\u2019s tracks and I chose a Hip Hop Half Hour. Dancing to those tunes with our friends was a definite highlight for us both! Our DJ was Bliss Wedding DJs and friends and family can request songs online with them, which was great as it meant that our playlist was really eclectic.<\/p>\n

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | We went to Debenhams and I hired out a personal shopper. I would really recommend it; it\u2019s free, you get your own space, there are refreshments (you can take your own fizz- bonus!!) and you get the help of a personal shopper. I had seen the dresses we decided on the website but they were over budget, however, they were in the sale! I didn\u2019t have a very fixed colour scheme in mind; we knew we wanted yellow flowers so it was something to go with that colour. I love the bridesmaid dresses, they are Jenny Packham. As my sister was pregnant at the time and eight weeks before the wedding had my beautiful nephew I just wanted her to feel comfortable and be able to feed George. So her lovely navy dress is from ASOS and it is a nursing dress, ideal.<\/p>\n

My beautiful flower girls wore dresses from River Island. I wanted them to be in something fun and child like that they could play and dance in. I was told they had to be \u201cnot itchy!\u201d and these weren\u2019t, phew!<\/p>\n

THE FLOWERS | A family friend did all of our bouquets, buttonholes and my flower crown, which I would still wear every day if I could! She did an exceptional job.<\/p>\n

For my sister\u2019s wedding last year she went to a flower market for the table flowers and one of my bridesmaids grew her own flowers for hers. This gave me a little practice in creating my own centre pieces and I really enjoyed doing it. I got all of the table flowers from a flower market in Leicester. It was really easy, I contacted them and put an order in and when I went to collect them the Thursday before the wedding they were all ready to go. I stored them in the bath overnight and then we set them up on the Friday daytime using jars, vases etc.<\/p>\n

THE CAKE | My wonderfully talented bridesmaid Louise made our wedding cupcakes and they were delicious! We had three flavours; lemon and poppy seed, white chocolate and raspberry and chocolate fudge. They went down a right treat and it was such a thoughtful wedding gift to us!<\/p>\n

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | A colleague at work used Ellie Grace for her photography, so I had already liked her Facebook page years before we were engaged in anticipation! I really liked her candid and natural style of photography and this was exactly how we wanted our day to be captured. We went to meet Ellie and it was important that we both felt relaxed with our photographer and we both felt instantly at ease in Ellie\u2019s company. Ellie was like a ninja on the day she captured some lovely intimate moments and blended in so well we often didn\u2019t know she was there; such as all the dancefloor pics, which we love! Ellie was very friendly, approachable and worked well with our groomsmen to arrange any group photos that we wanted to. Ellie also loves dogs at weddings so was great with our nervous sausage dog Alan when he arrived at the wedding.<\/p>\n

THE DETAILS & D\u00c9COR | As I have said we set up our own venue with the help of friends and family. The day before setting up was really good fun and it was lovely seeing it all coming together.<\/p>\n

Our table plan was a fence panel, which had nails put in it and chalk painted clipboards on it. We borrowed it from a friend of a friend who used to have her own wedding decoration business. We spruced it up by repainting and adding flowers; it was really effective. Alex was keen for Derby County named tables after a slight diva moment of \u2018no way no how\u2019, I thought \u2018why not actually?\u2019(again compromise!) so he created the table pictures online and I think he did a lovely job. We bought the numbers from Hobby Craft and painted and sanded them ourselves.<\/p>\n

Our favours\/ place names represented our two loves; Alex\u2019s Derby County Ram for the boys and my love of all things sausage dog for the girls. Our friend kindly made the cut outs for us and we couldn\u2019t have been happier with them.<\/p>\n

We decided early on that we wanted a photo booth. They are really good fun and a lovely way of getting a personal guest book. We booked with Photo Booths by Claire and she was prompt, efficient and had a great choice of props to choose from.<\/p>\n

HAIR & MAKE UP | Make Up: Hannah Caval MUA. I would highly recommend Hannah, not only is she a lovely person to be around but she is very talented! Our make-up stayed on all day and I loved it so much!<\/p>\n

Katz Kuts (can be found on Facebook). Kat did the bridesmaid and bridal hair for the day and I was really happy with the result. Kat does mobile hair dressing and came to the venue.<\/p>\n

THE HONEYMOON | We booked a holiday in 2015 with Trial Finders and we had a great time so we decided to use them for our honeymoon. We told them our budget and what sort of trip we wanted (lots of wildlife and sunshine!) and they helped us plan it all out. We went to Malaysia. Started in Kuala Lumpur then went to Borneo to Sandakan, Kinabatagan River (The Kinabatagan Wetlands resort is amazing, booked with Bikes and Tours Borneo) and Gaya Island.<\/p>\n

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | There are so many, don\u2019t make us choose!!<\/p>\n

I think the setting up and the night before were lovely memories. Alex went out with friends and my parents took me and the bridesmaids out for dinner, which was really lovely and chilled.<\/p>\n

The ceremony was lovely and full of laughter. My veil fell off but we all laughed, nephew baby George kicked off after being super chill all morning but it lightened the mood, Alex made a quip about how he didn\u2019t have much to give and everyone burst into laughter. The readings were lovely and seeing all of our family and friend\u2019s faces beaming at us was really moving, we both said how we could feel the warmth and support in the room.<\/p>\n

The day was so busy but there were some moments with just Alex and I and we have both said how much we valued these. We loved going off and having our photos taken after the service, we couldn\u2019t stop giggling and smiling and it was really lovely. We also had a moment in the photo booth at the night do being daft having our photo taken. These moments are so special.<\/p>\n

Alan the sausage dog turned up at about six for some pictures and having him there with his little yellow bow tie was such a treat.<\/p>\n

Seeing my 84 year old nana rocking it out on the dancefloor to Cher was a winning moment too!<\/p>\n

Rammy the Derby County football Mascot came as a surprise wedding present for us (mainly Alex!) from Usher Sheldon and his slightly nervous wife Anna (about my reaction!). It was brilliant! It was definitely a highlight for Alex who literally would not leave Rammy\u2019s side for the hour and for me seeing Alex so beaming that actual <\/em>Rammy was at our wedding!!<\/p>\n

The Speeches, we did them pre meal so the lads could enjoy their food without the nerves! They all did us so proud, really touching, personal and funny.<\/p>\n

The first dance was hilarious when Alex went off and changed his shoes to some pretty outlandish poka dot loafers, which I had suggested he didn\u2019t wear during the daytime. He managed to sneak them in and put them on for the first dance and it was hilarious!<\/p>\n

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Let other people help. We were so thankful to have friends and family help us create our perfect day; from one my bridesmaid\u2019s Lou making our lovely wedding invites to having craft nights at ours making cranes. Knowing how people wanted to contribute to our wedding day meant so much to us and seeing their influences around the room on the day made it even more personal and special.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t sweat the small stuff. My friend Emily came all the way home from Australia and spent the days running up to the wedding keeping me \u201cNamaste\u201d. Having people around you to keep things in perspective is important. At the end of the day you are going to marry the person you love and that\u2019s all that matters, enjoy it. It is the things that didn\u2019t go to plan which turned out to be the shining moments of the day because they made it our<\/em> wedding.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s normal to feel a bit sad after the wedding\/honeymoon is over. I wish someone had told me that before as I felt really guilty for feeling a bit low after all the excitement had died down. It wasn\u2019t until I openly said about it to friends who are married and they said they felt the same way and it was normal I was like \u201cwhy did no one tell me?!\u201d. The planning, the events (hen\/stag), the day, the honeymoon become your life for that period of time so it\u2019s understandable that you may feel a little deflated. We started a house project and booked a holiday, soon snapped out of it J!<\/p>\n
