No matter who or where we are, I think every one of us has \u2013 in at least one fleeting moment \u2013 looked up at the stars and felt pure wonder. There is a concept in Japanese aesthetics that expresses this feeling beautifully: yugen<\/em>, which translates, approximately, to an \u201cawareness of the profound grace and subtlety of the universe, an awareness which evokes feelings that are inexplicably deep and too mysterious for words\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Our awe for the heavens and stars around us has played a role in every century of our history, and \u2013 as someone who spent her University years studying Astrophysics and Astronomy \u2013 I\u2019ve always been particularly sensitive to its beauty. To see these celestial visuals make their way now into fashion, d\u00e9cor, and wedding styling makes me unbelievably happy \u2013 finally my starry taste is perfectly on trend!<\/p>\n

Over the last year I\u2019ve seen some wonderful ways in which a homage to the stars can be weaved into the aesthetic of a wedding. As ever, the theme can be as subtle or as strong as you wish it to be. It may be that you want to take inspiration from the colour palette of astronomy, with shades of midnight blue, slate greys, deep purples, and speckles of light. Or perhaps it\u2019s the shapes and names of stars, comets, moons, constellations, and galaxies that could make an appearance. Or it may be that you\u2019re more fascinated by the concept of tides, seasons, and all the beautiful ways in which the Earth reflects its position and movement through the universe. Whichever it is, the story can be told as eloquently through meaningful details as it can through statement installations, creating a narrative of love, magic, and stars.<\/p>\n

Celestial Wedding Decor<\/h2>\n

You can take inspiration from the skies by including moons, stars, circles, and spheres \u2013 suspended paper decorations for example, which can even be DIY, or illustrated signs. Creatively adding reflective elements like mirrors, geodes, prisms, or pearlescent materials is another option, particularly effective alongside some darker versions of standard wedding d\u00e9cor, like candles, candlesticks, or plates. Think about using that contrast between light and dark, like black plates against a light blue silk runner for example, or swirling black macarons against a silver tray.<\/p>\n
