Lydia and Matthew wanted to keep things relaxed and simple with their nuptials on the 12th May 2018, so they chose the beautiful Wood Farm Barn in Suffolk<\/a> where they could do everything their way and make sure everything was fuss free.<\/p>\n

Our pair did a lot of the planning from afar but with the help of family and friends, they were able to put together a lot of lovely touches which really make the day so special. Think an abundance of pink tissue pom poms, homemade origami boxes and handmade candles. One of my favourite details is the couple’s initials made from wine corks, so appropriate given Lydia’s line of work! They also had some fantastic suppliers on board. I absolutely love the glorious pink blooms and will you look at that brilliant cake? Yum!<\/p>\n

THE  PROPOSAL<\/h3>\n

I don’t get to see my twin sister Judy very much, she lives with her husband in Shropshire. We were determined to spend our 29th Birthday together and Matthew knew how important it was to us. He took all four of us to a restaurant in Ludlow (famous for great food), a restaurant that my happily married grandparents once dined. He bought my favourite Champagne as an aperitif for us to share. We had a fantastic meal and then as we were leaving, Matthew was faffing a little, nothing out of the ordinary. Everyone was half way out the door and I thought Matthew was tying his shoelace. Well, no, he was on one knee proposing. All four of us spent the rest of the day celebrating together.<\/p>\n

THE  VISION<\/h3>\n

A simple and fun wedding where people could feel fully relaxed and enjoy the day. We booked our venue and other suppliers while still living in the Maldives, so we did not get a chance to view in person. All we knew was we didn’t want a venue to take control and dictate to us what we can and can\u2019t do. Our venue was super flexible and let us tailor the day as we wanted. No set menus, no corkage fees, no bossy venue manager – just us.<\/p>\n

THE  PLANNING  PROCESS<\/h3>\n

This was tricky, planning the majority from outside of the country, but as the wedding got closer it was more enjoyable. Moving back to the UK, seeing things come together and roping in family and friends to help all started to make the process fun.<\/p>\n

BUDGET<\/h3>\n

The main objective was to create a wedding day that was fun and not expensive. Both of us did not consider it at all important to spend money unnecessarily on one day, albeit an important one. we wanted to make sure we were relaxed about everything and create an environment that upcycled the added extras we wanted on the day.<\/p>\n

THE  FLOWERS<\/h3>\n

The fantastic florist The Garden Gate Southwold, we completely love Denise who specialises in her own grown English flowers. I wanted classic spring\/summer theme and she was the perfect choice for us. My grandmother used to do flower arranging for St Edmund’s church so she beautifully arranged the flowers in the church for the big day and they looked spectacular! Denise arranged the buttonholes and bouquets, truly perfectly.<\/p>\n

THE  VENUE<\/h3>\n

Loved the venue, Wood Farm Barn. super friendly management, helpful, flexible and inexpensive. A great space set in beautiful grounds.<\/p>\n

THE  DETAILS  &  D\u00c9COR<\/h3>\n

Visualised by me and 100% backed-up by my mother who worked tirelessly helping create pom-poms and hand making origami boxes for the favours. I made the candle favours from a huge amount of candle wax I just happened to have (back from candle making phase) and rose petals given to me by my grandmother. I work in the wine industry and gave the candles a Chardonnay essence! We had a load of friends help put up the pom-poms and we used scaffolding to make life easier. We kept things really simple, so while they took some time, they didn\u2019t cost too much and I think had high impact. My brother is an electrician and he was in charge of lighting on the day, I wanted a load of fairly lights to light up the room, but the lighting in the barn was amazing right till 9pm.<\/p>\n

THE  CAKE<\/h3>\n

Provided by the very talented Beth Haxby. I trained as a pastry chef so this aspect was really important to me, I was keen to do it myself but decided it was one too many things to deal with. And I am so glad I didn\u2019t, Beth is exceptionally talented, supportive and understood my vision exactly. The cake looked amazing and more importantly, tasted amazing!<\/p>\n

THE  DRESS  &  ACCESSORIES<\/h3>\n

Bought from TinkerBells in Lowestoft, truly the best experience, with the best dress selection I found in Norfolk\/Suffolk. All accessories we bought from this store except my shoes which I purchased from ASOS.<\/p>\n

My sister Judy Mitchinson is a very talented designer and we were both keen for her to design and make my wedding dress, Only she lives so far away and had just had a baby, so timing wasn’t right. It was vital to me that she was heavily involved in the dress search along with my grandmother and mother, We visited a number of stores in Norfolk\/Suffolk but didn\u2019t find anything I felt was right. In the end my mother suggested Lowestoft and I have to admit I was a little reserved, but it was the best decision I ever made.<\/p>\n

BEAUTIFUL  BRIDESMAIDS<\/h3>\n

I bought these dresses in Zara, I just fell in love with them. No real clue about what to do with the colour these, all I knew was I wanted lots of colour, greens, blues, pinks and I just hoped it would all tie together on the day.<\/p>\n

GROOMS  ATTIRE<\/h3>\n

Matthew spent a little time checking out all of the traditional stores and obvious wedding related ones. Struggling to find anything he really likes he  asked his father where he bought his  suit for his wedding, well it was M&S, so he checked it out and low and behold he found something he liked.<\/p>\n

YOUR  PHOTOGRAPHER<\/h3>\n

Wow! What can I say, I am completely in awe of Georgia Ainley our photographer. I stalked her for ages, checking out every image I could find, and not just to see what they were like but because I was completely enthralled by them. She has a way of capturing the feeling, and spirit of an occasion. Her images are beautifully timed with an astute level of detail. She is lovely to be around and never have I met someone who I feel immediately comfortable with holding a camera in my face! Her passion is infectious and she works so hard to capture your special day in action and she does just that. So so glad I met her.<\/p>\n

THE  HONEYMOON<\/h3>\n

It was really important as we had done so much travelling together we always want to go somewhere new and experience the weird and wonderful. The whole thing was a surprise right until the airport, Matthew had booked it and managed to keep quiet about the location and details. We landed in Montenegro!!! For 10 nights, we had adventures quad biking and zip wiring up in the north and lazing by the pool and fancy meals in the south! It really was the perfect trip and suited our adventurous personalities to a T. Fantastic country and I highly recommend.<\/p>\n

MEMORABLE  MOMENTS<\/h3>\n

Seeing Matthew’s face as I was walking down the aisle, holding his hand during the ceremony. The whole ceremony had us nearly in tears (and that is saying a lot) My cousin singing in the church and my favourite music being played so beautifully was a moment I will never forget. Matthew’s parents had organised for a Tesla X model as our wedding car, I had to keep it a secret from Matthew and he was so surprised!<\/p>\n

The Ceilidh band we had organised got everyone dancing and was so much fun watching everyone fling themselves around the dancefloor!<\/p>\n

ADVICE  FOR  OTHER  COUPLES<\/h3>\n

Make sure you take your time on the day, everyone will say it and you will believe them, but make sure you really take their advice. And don’t sweat the small stuff, getting bogged down in the colour scheme or table plan really doesn’t matter, all that matters is that you are all together celebrating your relationship and it will all come together in the end..<\/p>\n
