Local ingredients will offer you a taste of the area with a smaller carbon footprint. That\u2019s because miles from producer to plate are minimal.<\/p>\n

Not only does this give you good green qualities, it also guarantees you super fresh local produce that will be packed with flavour. Freshly pulled beets and raspberries still juicy from the bush take some beating.<\/p>\n

At the heart of every wow-factor menu are quality ingredients, so choose local and you\u2019re certain to impress your guests.<\/p>\n\n

Whether you\u2019re cooling off in summer or cosying up in winter, renewable power sources for heating and lighting are an important element of planning an eco-friendly wedding.<\/p>\n

Look out for a venue that is incredibly well insulated and runs off-the-grid. Some will even be powered by solar energy and a biomass boiler, creating an elegant setting that is green behind the scenes.<\/p>\n

Follow this right down to sourcing sustainably managed logs to load up the fire pit and you\u2019ll throw a party to remember, without the planet paying the price.<\/p>\n

What elements of your wedding can you use twice? This may seem like an unusual question at first, but getting married often involves a lot of single-use items, from glassware to chair ties. If you won\u2019t use them again, try to hire rather than buy so that someone else in the future will.<\/p>\n

For elements that you can\u2019t return at the end of the day, like your bouquets, consider how you could give them a longer lasting impression. Pop bridesmaid posies into vases to decorate your cards table. Re-position floral urns from the aisle to frame the top table. This means one set of flowers can do twice the work, which is good for the planet and for your purse.<\/p>\n

Biodegradable Details<\/h2>\n

Real flower petal confetti. Compostable cutlery and packaging passed out from your evening food truck. A caterer that sends the leftovers to be recycled… There are lots of small ways to transform the waste your wedding produces into something good instead.<\/p>\n

When choosing your vendors, make time to ask them what their eco credentials are. They may source supplies sustainably, make good use of recycling or plant trees for every wedding booked. A little bit of research is all you need and if you book an eco-friendly venue, they\u2019ll be able to recommend the perfect suppliers for the task.<\/p>\n

Freshly Picked Flowers<\/h2>\n

Importing flowers has become the norm for many weddings in the UK, but it needn\u2019t be the case. If your heart is set on peonies, get married in June. If you\u2019re dreaming of dahlias, September is the month to choose. It really is that simple.
\nChoose flowers that fit the time of year of your wedding and you immediately cut back your wedding\u2019s carbon footprint (and costs!). That\u2019s because the flowers no longer need to be flown in from Europe or further afield.<\/p>\n

Ask your venue whether there is a flower field based nearby. If there is, you can fill your celebration with seasonal, local, breath-taking blooms that were flowering their socks off in a field a few miles away just days before the big one.
\nIf you\u2019re not especially green-fingered, knowing what\u2019s possible for your wedding flowers can feel like a challenge. Talk to your florist – this is their area of expertise and they\u2019ll be only too happy to advise you.<\/p>\n
