THE BEST DAY. Everything we had hoped for and more. It was perfect, rustic, fun and filled with friends family and most importantly love filled memories!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Lucy and Jon thank you for joining us today, it’s such a delight to be sharing your Hazel Gap Barn<\/a> wedding in Nottinghamshire<\/a>! Lucy and Jon were married on the 28th April 2019, a day that turned out to be nothing short of spectacular you guys. Think smoke bombs, barn venue, dramatic burgundy florals and the most epic cookie wall, just you wait<\/em>.<\/p>\n

There is a really atmospheric feel to their ceremony with fairy lights and candles providing romantic lighting, it must have felt so cosy. I also have to say I love the nods to music and their fave band, keep your eyes peeled for the creative table plan in particular. Also not forgetting there were stylish outfits, cool signs and a really fantastic cake creation. Oh my.<\/p>\n

The Proposal<\/h3>\n

For a Christmas present Jon had booked us a trip to Liverpool which ironically was where we went for our first ever night away as a couple together. We always go away between Christmas and New Year so I expected no different. The weather wasn\u2019t great but we had a lovely day shopping, eating and drinking. Jon had a meal booked for us at Chaophraya Thai restaurant (one of our favourite cuisines!) he tried all day and night to get me to the Albert Docks but the mixture of intermittent rain, wind and pure cold weather put me off. I never realised that all day he had the ring in his pocket waiting for the perfect time as he had pictured it at the Docks.
\nAnyway after a Thai we headed back to the Alchemist and he got on one knee in a random street to ask the question!! I had no idea. I just remember him saying \u2018you know how you like surprises\u2019 before getting on his knee with the most beautiful diamond ring. He did well. Its funny it was in a random street as he believes I\u2019d have guessed otherwise! We laugh about it now!<\/p>\n

The Vision<\/h3>\n

We had been to 7 weddings over the previous 2 years so knew we wanted to get married in a different location but also venue.
\nWe wanted the venue to have a separate place if possible for the wedding breakfast and the dance floor with an outdoor section should the weather be nice!<\/p>\n

We knew music orientated from the beginning, gold and burgundy were the colours we wanted rustic theme, something a little different and not too modern I guess!<\/p>\n

I tried to keep the theme throughout!<\/p>\n

The Planning Process<\/h3>\n

Where do you even begin with this!<\/p>\n

Get an excel spreadsheet and make lists.
\nI didn\u2019t find it as hard as I anticipated. There were parts that I actually really enjoyed. My theory was You\u2019re never going to do it again so off you go! Jon was involved in all the decisions which was nice so it wasn\u2019t just me! The parents helped throughout and I probably couldn\u2019t have done it without them!<\/p>\n

We didn\u2019t go in any particular order it was a case of seeing something I liked and following it up. I am quite an organised person so had it mostly under control!<\/p>\n

\"Dressing \"Dressing<\/p>\n

Beauty<\/h3>\n

Make up was from Jennifer Kayleigh Sherratt (she did all bridemaids and Mother of the Bride)
\nI\u2019m not one to go all out on make up so I wanted natural colours but obviously being a wedding day I wanted it to stand out with golds which she achieved perfectly.<\/p>\n

Hair was by Annie Jane Hair (same as above). I had a few trials as I don\u2019t always have my hair up but knew with my dress it would look better. I think we even went for a different style on the day to what we had planned but it was beautiful and stayed in all day\/night!<\/p>\n

Groomsmen<\/h3>\n

All wore Marks and Spencer\u2019s suits with burgundy paisley ties from Amazon.<\/p>\n

Jon\u2019s suit was different to the groomsmen with a check from Next.<\/p>\n

Jon (the Groom) and the two Dad\u2019s wore 3 pieces the rest 2 piece.<\/p>\n

Bridesmaids
\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n

All wore ASOS dresses.
\nWe only had to have 1 try on session and this was easy!!
\nI knew I wanted them in burgundy or gold, I had bought 3 different styles of dresses in these colours as a starting point as Lucy was back from Australia in the June I needed to move quick!
\nWe had a try on session at my parent\u2019s house and the gold glitter dresses was a hit for them all which was great. They looked gorgeous. We just had them altered to each body shape closer to the date.
\nThey all could have their hair and make up how they wanted \u2013 again through Annie Jane and Jennifer Kayleigh and all picked their own shoes.
\nI bought them matching bracelets with their initials which I gave them the night before so they could all wear these the day of the wedding.<\/p>\n

\"Bouquet<\/p>\n

Your Outfits and Accessories
\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n

My dress was from J&J Bridal Designs close to where we live – They were incredible!
\nI also got my headpiece from here too.
\nShoes were Carvela \u2013 super comfortable.
\nMum bought me some diamond earrings for the day.<\/p>\n

I actually only visited one shop to try on dresses and left the same day with a deposit against one! I only took my Mum and Mother in Law the whole way through and no one else got to see until the big day. Which is a good job as I ended up completely changing the design of the dress I bought and having it altered right up to the week before. It went from a long sleeved boho dress (Wilderly Marigold) to having sleeves cut off, backless, neck line adjusted, lace peeled back. I have to say I LOVED my dress it was perfect for me and I still wouldn\u2019t change it now!<\/p>\n

The Venue<\/h3>\n

Hazel Gap Barn which is part of the Cripps Company.<\/p>\n

I fell in love with this the minute I walked through the doors. Jon even said in his speech he knew within 2 seconds of arriving to visit that by the smile on my face that this would be the venue for us. It was beautiful and everything I had been imagining.<\/p>\n

The brickwork was stunning, the style was just so me, the lighting the separate room, I loved the grounds for photos and the fact it backed on to the forest. It was plenty big enough and they were more than accommodating so I just hoped they had a date we wanted too. They did! It was meant to be.<\/p>\n

The food was stunning and we paid to attend one of their feast nights pre wedding where you sample an array of food and drink. We took both sets of parents and had a lovely evening.<\/p>\n

The Readings and Music<\/h3>\n

Readings both were picked by the readers. Teresa is Jon\u2019s Auntie and Nicola is also a very good friend of mine and also my boss!

\nDanny Bowers \u2013 Local band to us called The Th3rd Coming live evening band \u2013 Indie and classic pop covers. They catered for all age groups and I literally did not leave the dance floor all night.<\/p>\n

Your Photographer<\/h3>\n

\nWe knew we wanted two photographers and spent some time looking on Instagram at Nottingham photographers. I loved the style of their photos and their communication was great.
\nWe had an interesting engagement shoot in the wind and rain (which neither me and Jon are great at!) but we still managed to get some beautiful photos in 40 mins!<\/p>\n

The Details and D\u00e9cor<\/h3>\n

Wedding Invites \u2013 Were in the design of a record album. The guests took the invite which was like a vinyl out of a cardboard CD case which has a photo of us on it the back represented the back of an old vinyl. My bridesmaid Lucy from Australia designed these.
\nMy favourite thing my far was my seating plan which was home made.
\nOur table names were all going to be songs from our favourite band The Courteeners.
\nWe then had the idea to put them on to vinyls. We had transfers designed (by my bridesmaid Lucy) and then printed. We wrote the names of the guests direct on to the vinyl. Lucy my bridesmaid brought my vision to life and we had a hanging wall which was a beautiful feature. I now have the vinyl of my top table in my dining room and love it!
\nGuest Book \u2013 wooden personalised one with Mr and Mrs Whalley and pen to match \u2013 Etsy.
\nWedding Gifts Box \u2013 Mr and Mrs Whalley pallet which again was off Etsy.
\nName Cards for Table – Etsy, brown card sheets of music notes with names printed on.
\nCookie Wall \u2013 loved this touch Natalie O\u2019Dowd – Ruby Lou\u2019s cake company.
\nLoved me Do Designs \u2013 Favours \u2013 again here we had gold for ladies to match bridesmaid dress and these were little vinyl records which were a pocket mirror and burgundy (to match the suit ties) bottle openers for the men. On the front was our wedding date and our first dance song Grow Old With me to keep the theme alive!
\nRings \u2013 both from 77 Diamonds where Jon had my engagement ring from.
\nOrder of Service \u2013 again had this image and my talented bridesmaid Lucy did the design for me. We picked to have the order of service differently \u2013 we picked one of our favourite songs by The Courteeners \u2013 Not Nineteen Forever, used the actual music notes and put the timings off these. Very personalised and on theme. I then had a company (Steve Burton from City Signs Midlands) print it off along with the transfer stickers for the Vinyls on seating plan.<\/p>\n

\"Round \"Centrepiece<\/p>\n

The Flowers<\/h3>\n

Amy Williams from Polka Dot Florist
\n<\/strong>Amy actually stepped in half way through as our previous florist fell pregnant and wouldn\u2019t be available. Amy was great from start to finish and really understood my inspiration.<\/p>\n

I wanted a large ring to drop down in the barn with burgundy and cr\u00e8me\/white flowers. Predominantly I wanted it to be green with plenty of Eucalyptus and flowers. The flower draped from the ring was the same as in my bouquet \u2013 beautiful.<\/p>\n

My bouquet I wanted to not be huge but also different to bridesmaids. I knew I wanted some different type of flowers and the trailing burgundy one we had was perfect.
\nBridesmaids were to have cr\u00e8me\/white flowers with eucalyptus.<\/p>\n

The centre pieces on the table were going to be made up of gin bottles and candles \u2013 I had pinterest inspiration here! And then I wanted the flowers to go around. We had used half of a vinyl with the table name (song from The Courteeners) in the centre. They worked perfectly. Two of my favourite things \u2013 gin and music!<\/p>\n

The Honeymoon<\/h3>\n

South Africa and Mauritius.<\/p>\n

Booked through Geraldine Sproston at Hays Travel. We knew we wanted to go somewhere different and were toying with Safari\/Mauritius or Dubai\/Maldives as we knew we wanted to explore 2 different countries.
\nWe spent 3 nights in Cape Town where we did Wine Tasting, up Table Mountain, and a day trip before going on Safari at Gondwana Game Reserve for 3 nights. This was the most memorable part and truly a fantastic experience.<\/p>\n

We then Flew for to Mauritius for a final 7 nights to relax and stayed at Zilwa Attitude Hotel again which was beautiful. We didn\u2019t do much here \u2013 other than walk on the sea bed with fish which we had filmed.<\/p>\n

The Cake<\/h3>\n

Lady called Ruth Harmer at Southwell Cakery based in Nottingham.
\nWe went for a naked cake and she did an incredible job – tasted lovely.<\/p>\n

Memorable Moments<\/h3>\n

The night before for us both. As we got married a good hour away from where we lived we were both overwhelmed with the amount of friends and family who had travelled to spend the night before and night of the wedding with us. It was so nice knowing that everyone was there to celebrate with you and I thoroughly enjoyed this time. My mum and dad had put a lot of effort into organising this and it was so lovely.
\nMy family and friends all stayed in the Hop Pole Ollerton and surrounding area where we went for an Italian the night before and the Hop Pole had kindly given us our own lounge room to drink gin, eat sweets and had a real girly night.<\/p>\n

Jon\u2019s family and friends did the same in Worksop. He said exactly the same and really enjoyed having some pre wedding food and drinks with the lads! It was such a nice lead up to the wedding and the last messages we sent each other on the evening were about what nice nights we had both had.<\/p>\n

We both equally thought the speeches were incredible. You can never predict these things but from my dads, to my maid of honour, to Jon and his best man. They were the right amount of time, funny and great content. We are lucky to have had a guest record them as they meant so much to us both!<\/p>\n

We also both wrote cards to each other\/our parents\/and parents in law and did this a couple of nights before the wedding. All I remember was us both crying our eyes out writing the cards and wrapping the wedding thank you gifts!!<\/p>\n

For me leaving the venue in the morning to join Morris Dancers in order to get to the car was definitely memorable. There was a fayre on in the town and just as I needed to leave it was in full swing. It made it hilarious the wedding party crossing the road through the show!<\/p>\n

For Jon \u2013 his mum and auntie gave him his Granddad\u2019s handkerchief at the venue before the wedding which caused a few tears for all around as he is no longer with us.
\nHe also had a pre wedding pint with the lads before getting into his suit which he said he loved and receiving a pocket watch from me which was engraved with our wedding first dance song and the date.
\nHe says me walking down the aisle was memorable for him, but it was for me too I remember smiling the whole way down pleased to be with my Dad, walking to Jon and seeing all my friends and families faces!<\/p>\n

Advice for Other Couples<\/h3>\n

Enjoy every single second as its goes so fast and will be the best day of your life! I want to do it all over again! Make sure you get a few minutes on your own together throughout the day to take it all in! The day after make sure you have some time to yourselves to re live each others version of the day \u2013 we went to Ye Olde Bell Spa in the afternoon and didn\u2019t stop chatting away!<\/p>\n
