Photo by Tim Simpson Photography<\/a> – I had this idea on the way to Francesca and Alex\u2019s wedding at the Walled Garden in Cowdray. I like to have a few different shots in mind for a shoot. There was a single tree in a field casting a shadow, and I imagined what it would look like if I photoshopped the tree out. This shot was a progression of that thought. I\u2019ve tried to replicate it a couple of times, but the length of the shadow has always been off. I was fortunate to get it right the first time I tried.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Photo by Pavel Dufek<\/a> – During the wedding preparations, while I was photographing the bride, a friend of the bride arrived and began to get ready. This vicar was one of the funniest, gentlest, quirkiest, and most enlightened men I\u2019ve ever met\u2014totally larger than life. Halfway through his sermon, he produced two full pints of Guinness, much to the stunned astonishment of the congregation, and launched into the “glass half empty\/full” analogy for pessimism vs. optimism. Here he is in full, over-the-top flow, explaining the negative side of this well-known metaphor. It was a delightful change from what can often be one of the more dull parts of a church wedding, and a great excuse for this gentleman to mix business with pleasure!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Photo by John Steel<\/a> – This was a very fun wedding. There were already lots of games happening, like croquet, outdoor darts, and Jenga. However, this girl decided to create her own game, “chase the chicken.” You’ll be pleased to know she never caught the chicken, but it was a lot of fun to watch.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Photo by Surrey Lane wedding photography<\/a> – We were photographing the bride as she was leaving her house, ready for her wedding, and the chap in the flat downstairs thought it would be a good idea to have a look out of the window. They didn\u2019t want a formal shoot and preferred pictures that reflected their personalities. The poor groom didn\u2019t stand a chance when they decided to pick him up. I had to take a photo first before pointing out they were in the wrong toilets!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Photo by David Stubbs<\/a> – I was sat in the back room eating my supplier meal when Dad, who was an usher, came in holding his baby with a broken arm and started changing the baby\u2019s nappy in the corner. I have young kids and can relate to this\u2014there\u2019s never a break! It captures the moment during the speech when one of the ushers revealed some embarrassing moments of the couple.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Photo by Aaron Storry Photography<\/a> – It was one of my final weddings for 2017, deep into autumn, and the light had that gorgeous haze you often find in the UK an hour or so before it begins to set below the horizon. We had just finished shooting the group shots (or ‘formals,’ as my American friends call them), and the guests were enjoying outside entertainment and drinks when I heard the jovial shouting of groomsmen from the other side of the field. I ran over to find the boys tossing the groom high into the sky! I got into a slightly better position, encouraged the antics, and continued shooting. During his Father of the Bride speech, Claire’s dad shared an anecdote about when Claire was little and had an encounter with a llama that spat on her. Surreptitiously, several guests donned llama masks during the reception and crept up behind her! I kept an eye on them, sensing a great photo opportunity might arise. The second time I looked, she was on his shoulder, squeezing his face. They had an amazing fairground-themed wedding, so I brought out the smoke bombs and encouraged them to let their hair down, which they happily embraced! She used this gem to illustrate her point! I love the composition, with the guests’ heads watching on and the fairy lights framing the top of the scene.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n Photo by Christian Allen Photography (photographer: Christian Allen)<\/a> – This photo was taken at the Great Hall at Mains in Poulton, Lancashire, last year. It was the first time in all my years of photographing weddings that I witnessed an owl delivering the wedding rings to the front. For me, as the photographer, it couldn\u2019t have gone any better, as the owl decided it didn\u2019t want to cooperate and preferred to stay up in the rafters with the rings instead!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n I love this photograph because there is so much going on, with each person captured having an expression that adds to the overall scene. I hope to have another wedding with an owl\u2014what a photographer’s dream!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n P.S. The groom said, “Vee Voods Like too makes zee bottom photography SCNELL!!!” I protested, pointing out the clause in our contract, but before I could finish, I was slapped across the face by the groom’s black leather glove. “SILENCE!” he shrieked, before fixing me with a cold, hard stare through his monocle.
