{w}<\/strong> Hi, could you firstly tell {www} readers a little bit about you?<\/span><\/p>\n

I\u2019m Shelly from toast photography. I\u2019m based in lovely picturesque Yorkshire and I shoot people. <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

{w}<\/span><\/strong> What do you love\/dislike about your job?<\/span><\/p>\n

Blimey, I love so many things. I love knowing when I\u2019ve got a really good shot, I love the creative world I live in and all the gorgeous, friendly people I meet. I still get excited to see my images download onto the Mac after a wedding, even when my feet are aching and I\u2019ve barely sat down all day. That probably sounds a bit sad and geeky but I get a thrill from every single wedding I do and no two weddings are the same. I seem to tailor my style of shooting depending on the couple and occasionally I only notice I\u2019ve done that after I\u2019ve shot the wedding when I\u2019m back in the studio. The only thing I dislike is spending so many hours in front of my Mac editing and doing the usual boring office stuff on my lonesome. It would be lovely to have someone to talk to occasionally \u2013 but I guess that\u2019s where social networking steps in. <\/span><\/em><\/div>\n

{w}<\/strong> How did you get into your business and into the wedding industry?<\/span><\/p>\n

I fell into it purely by accident. Back 20 years ago, I was working in a press office and the photographer slipped a disc in his back and I was the only person around. I had to learn how to shoot with an slr and process and print all my own film. Let\u2019s just say it was a steep learning curve. I mostly did press shots but the guy who taught me (thank you Professor Michael Cooper, I owe you pretty much everything!) was creative in so many genres \u2013 he would paint and sketch, he loved music and film, and taught me that there are so many avenues to explore creatively, that we shouldn\u2019t just stick to one. He made me look at the world differently \u2013 albeit through a viewfinder mostly. I did my first wedding the year after aged 20. Technology has certainly moved on somewhat since then and now I don\u2019t have to hold my breath waiting for three rolls of film to be developed. Also glossy mags and fashion have changed the face of how we look at wedding photography for ever and now every bride wants to ensure she looks like a fashion model in her wedding album. <\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

{w}<\/strong> What do you aim to achieve for your clients?<\/span><\/p>\n

Hugs. Lots of em. If I had a penny for every hug and kiss that brides and grooms give me for helping them relive their big day, I\u2019d be a very rich bunny. I love it when a bride can\u2019t believe how great she looks in the shots, or if I\u2019ve caught a particular tender moment. I get a big kick out of making my clients happy. The big thing for me is making sure that the couple enjoy their big day as much as possible \u2013 the last thing you need is a bloody bossy photog who orders you into a line and tells you to smile. I want people to remember the shoot as being a whole heap of fun. <\/span><\/em><\/div>\n

{w} <\/span><\/strong>What style is your work? <\/span><\/p>\n

Well, I guess my style is quite informal. I do a lot of photojournalism throughout the day, so lots of candid shots of guests enjoying themselves. However, I also make sure I do some gorgeous shots of the happy couple themselves that are a little bit posed \u2013 but in a relaxed way. I\u2019m also hung up on details. <\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

{w}<\/strong> Could you tell us some information about your packages\/prices?<\/span><\/p>\n

I have two packages because I\u2019m a simple kind of girl.<\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
We do a <\/span><\/em>Half-Day Package (6 hours) which is the most popular. Coverage of the big day starts with the bride as she prepares for the wedding, throughout the ceremony itself, culminating in the wedding breakfast, toasts and cutting of the cake. <\/em><\/span><\/div>\n
We also do a Full-Day Package (up to 12 hours) which is everything included in our Half-Day but with the addition of the evening reception, the first dance plus the option of using our \u2018Portrait Photo Studio\u2019 during the evening.<\/em><\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
And because we really, really want to know what makes our clients tick before the big day arrives, we include a pre-wedding shoot with each of our wedding packages. This is not only a chance to get to know me better and how I work behind the lens, but also a chance to throw caution to the wind and do an amazing photoshoot. If you\u2019re a serious biker chick, we can do a shoot based around some mean machines, or if you\u2019re a music geek we can theme it around old vinyl and some serious decks. <\/em><\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n

{w}<\/strong> Do you have any tips for couples in selecting their photographer?<\/span><\/p>\n

Find someone you get on with. I spend a lot of time with my couples \u2013 especially on the big day itself \u2013 and it\u2019s imperative that we all get on really well. If you\u2019re not on the same wavelength, it\u2019ll show in the pictures. <\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
<\/em><\/div>\n
Also in this day and age of cutting costs, don\u2019t scrimp on the photography. Yeah you can ask a mate who\u2019s got a little dslr, but unless that mate can organise a crowd of slightly tipsy wedding guests, charm the venue management, ceremony officiator and spend hours touching up every last detail on photoshop, it really isn\u2019t worth the money you\u2019ll save. Even if you hate having your photograph taken, find a professional you trust and who can put you at ease \u2013 you\u2019re going to be looking at these pictures for years to come after all. And don\u2019t leave it until the last minute to book a photog. Decent photographers get booked up well in advance. <\/span><\/em><\/div>\n
