This afternoon is all about creating atmosphere on your wedding day.<\/p>\n

Lighting is a huge part of your wedding day, just ask your photographer. Whether you are looking for colour, romance or a festive feel, lights can help to achieve all of those things.<\/p>\n

I have the pleasure of getting to know Oakwood Events<\/a> today, who specialise in wedding lighting. I love the different lighting options they offer to couples, my favourite has to be those fabulous festoon light above. Perfection.<\/p>\n

Hi, Sarah could you firstly tell WWW readers a little bit about you?<\/h1>\n

 <\/p>\n

We\u2019re a wedding lighting company based in South Buckinghamshire. I\u2019m Sarah and I run the client facing side of the business. My co-director and husband Steve manages design and installations.<\/p>\n

We install custom lighting schemes, using fairy lights, festoon lighting, chandeliers, uplighting, lanterns, candle light, evening party lighting and outdoor lighting. We specialise in barns and also work in marquees, village halls, hotels and outside spaces.<\/p>\n

What do you love\/dislike about your job?<\/h1>\n

 <\/p>\n

We love what do and we do what we love. Every day is different \u2013 one day we\u2019ll be hanging a fairy light ceiling in a 16th century barn, another day we\u2019ll be transforming a village hall with chandeliers and uplighting and occasionally (my personal favourite) we\u2019ll find ourselves lighting a huge cow shed, complete with cows!<\/p>\n

We\u2019re passionate about lighting because as well as creating atmosphere on the day it can create amazing photo opportunities. We get such a buzz when clients walk in and see how lighting has completely transformed a venue \u2013 it\u2019s like switching on magic!<\/p>\n

How did you get into the wedding industry?<\/h1>\n

 <\/p>\n

Oakwood Events <\/a>came from a vision of \u2018lighting with style\u2019; we felt there was a gap in the market for unique, wow-factor lighting tailored to weddings.<\/p>\n

Our careers after university were in project management in the city (me) and corporate IT (Steve). Steve\u2019s interest in lighting unexpectedly began growing into a business and so we took the plunge and decided to work for ourselves.<\/p>\n

We were overwhelmed by the response – we hoped to do 15 weddings in our first year and ended up doing over 100! We\u2019re still constantly humbled by the loveliness of our clients and their feedback. We feel very lucky.<\/p>\n

What style is your work?<\/h1>\n

 <\/p>\n

We design complete co-ordinated lighting schemes and we\u2019ve worked on vintage, dramatic, elegant, country and themed weddings.<\/p>\n

Whatever the style of a wedding, the great thing about lighting is that it can be customised and used to create ambience, highlight features, define spaces and enhance photos.<\/p>\n

Could you tell us some information about your packages\/prices?<\/h1>\n

 <\/p>\n

As we design around the venue and the style of the wedding there\u2019s no \u2018one size\u2019 approach and we treat every wedding as unique. We love it when couples trust us to design and install the entire lighting scheme as we get the freedom to blend spaces indoors and out, transition from day to night and create a style and wow factor throughout the whole venue.<\/p>\n

Do you have any tips for couples in selecting their lighting?<\/h1>\n

 <\/p>\n

Look at images of lighting in similar settings to inspire you, be realistic about what will work at your venue, consider the time of year and likely weather, and talk to your photographer about lighting too as they will have lots of useful advice.<\/p>\n

Most couples visit their venue in the day \u2013 if you can, visit after dusk or on a cloudy day to see how the existing lighting will look after dark so you can see if the atmosphere will be right for your wedding.<\/p>\n
