I have been involved in the music industry for 35 years. As a child I toured the world with my session musician Dad, following acts like George Michael, Beverly Knight and more, always learning about performance and the music industry. I played piano and guitar from toddler years and at 15 walked into a club with my vinyls and gained a residency on the spot. Over the last 20 years I’ve been lucky enough to DJ at the BBC Strictly Come Dancing final, a gig that keeps getting rebooked. I’ve DJ’d for Love Island and Eastenders afterparties and even The Jim Henson group. This has led me to DJ at private events for Tess Daly & Wes Nelson respectively.
I’ve done plenty of festivals, bar work, private parties of all sizes and student events of over 1000 people. What I’m getting at, is that I’m not a typical wedding DJ. I’m not talking over your songs, making it about me, or stopping and starting the music because I cannot mix. I’m booked because of how I make people feel, my musical knowledge and ability as an open format DJ. I know when to play rock, when to move to 90s R&B, I can spot a garage girl from a mile away and I can make even the most stern of men tap their feet. (I’m also super modest haha)
My cousin is the session musician for acts like Ed Sheeran, Stormzy and more. I feel like there’s something in our blood.
With me, you’re getting someone that arrives early, sets up and down without fuss, I don’t drink alcohol, or live the party lifestyle. This is my vocation and I treat it as such.
I encourage playlists ahead of time (as there are over 200 million songs in the world) but I’m equally ok with requests on the night or no playlists.
I’m pretty laid back, if you want to grab the microphone and belt out some ballads at the end of the night, be my guest, if you want drum and bass or prodigy, I encourage it. I only speak English, but I’ve done multiple Bhangra, K-Pop and Eastern European events and received glowing references at every single one of them. The only rule I have is that if you’re coming to hi five me, you don’t lean over the decks with a drink in hand. Liquids and electrics don’t mix and I do 2-3 gigs a week, replacing kit or hiring loan kit is a waste of money.
I’m happy to visit the venue ahead of time to go through logistics, to plan how you want your night to go. Ie 80s/soul into house, into throwbacks, as an example. I just put the pieces of the puzzle together to make sure the energy hits at the right time.
My largest wedding was 500 guests at Stoke By Nayland In Colchester.
