I like many that produce photos and video live for the shot. It’s out there, we have to find it. Hard to put a finger on what that is but we know it when we see it. The gladiator running his hand through the wheat. So simple. On it’s own a great photo but add movement & the right music, now its the most famous shot of the movie. Who can say why. And so it is with documentaries, which is my main line of work. The chase is on, the shot it out there with just simple ingredients. Weddings share many of the same principles. The greatest being, It’s happening now, you have one chance, you have to deal with it. Therein lies the joy. There is a great exchange between Bond and Q that goes “Age is no guarantee of efficiency. And youth is no guarantee of innovation." I find this to be the case with work. In some ways every job is the first job. There is some number crunching, going through the motions, checking kit, getting certain shots
but there is the drive for something new, that thing you haven’t found, just around the corner. This is in short what you’ll get from me. I’ll do my best. Block out the noise, stay calm, be in the background. I duty calls I can tell some jokes, herd the sheep for group photos if you’re short on a big voice.
I have been doing wedding photos and video by word of mouth for about 10 years. Almost always church weddings. There’s a certain game and set of challenges that come with dimly lit church weddings that have become second nature and that appeal to my religious sensibilities.
