Humanist wedding inspiration, in an inner-city Sheffield cinema. Celebrating the 90s, over-the-top colour and LGBTQ+ love.

Fun, colourful with 90s over-the-top bubblegum sweetness. Featuring an atmospheric cinema ceremony, friendship bracelets, Friends-quote signage, joyous confetti shots, stunning Alyce Jayne bridal outfits, and the most dreamy florals and styling!

Each supplier on the team had creative control of their contribution. We embraced nostalgia but with it a rebellious edge. The whole day was carefree, playful and stylish, just like the couples we work with. The subtly 90s stationery, with tongue-in-cheek references to the decade, plus the colour lavender brought the vision together.

The supplier team all felt it was important to celebrate the diversity of true love. Our clients come from a whole range of backgrounds. Paradoxically the one thing that makes them similar is that they’re creating a wedding that’s unique, even whimsical! But they have different budgets, ethnic heritages, accents, gender identities and sexualities… And with this in mind we invited a queer couple to model for the shoot.

Rebecca and Esme are clearly besotted with one another and were the dream couple to convey the vibe of the shoot. It helped that they are incredibly hyper! They jumped on top of the outdoor bar, threw retro sweeties around the cinema and had everyone dancing in the street.

The brief is unapologetically overboard but the final gallery completely justifies going OTT, because it is all so dreamy.

Inner City Weddings’ styling coupled with Fox and Flora’s floral design was heavenly. Together they featured lavenders, pinks, baby blues and iridescent shades. Just look at the magic of the twinkly lights bouncing from the disco ball, with ethereal lilac babies breath pompoms floating above the tablescape. The signature cocktails with strawberry garnishes tasted as good as they looked too.

Picture House Social is a 1920s vintage beauty with a distinctly urban edge. Sheffield’s secret gem has newly started offering wedding hire meaning that every Tom, Dick and Harriet haven’t actually been to a wedding there yet. A proper little find downstairs from Abbeydale Picture House, they serve “fresh AF food”, have a cool Ping Pong Hall and loads of space for dancing.

Rebecca and Esme’s wedding ceremony set up, with humanist celebrant Meg Senior, was held in the cinema with floral columns crafted by Fox and Flora as a backdrop. The brides danced around in confetti by Rob Lee’s bright orange rainbow mural outside, they sprayed champagne everywhere in the pastel-coloured beer garden, and shared a kiss at the box office.

Meg is a humanist celebrant travelling far and wide to marry wonderful couples. She supports nearlyweds to bring their individuality and personality into their wedding ceremonies. With a humanist wedding the ceremony is NEVER the boring bit of the day. It’s a way to set the tone for the celebration and start the party with happy tears and laughter.

Humanist wedding ceremonies can take place anywhere – not just licensed wedding venues – and nearlyweds have complete freedom to include personal touches. The cute little cinema at Picture House Social was an original, intimate setting for the ceremony.

During their romantic cinema ceremony, Rebecca and Esme’s toasted their relationship with a shot of tequila. Rather than simply exchanging rings, they embraced the 90s vibe and gave one another beaded “FOREVER” and “LOVE” bracelets.

Rebecca and Esme’s outfits can be summed up as: Rebellious meets bubblegum sweetness.

They both wore matching tulle bows by Rebecca Anne Designs, outfits from Alyce Jayne Bridal and oversized 90s hair accessories. Rebecca stuck with trusty DMs for her short polka dot dress emsemble, whilst Esme rocked block heels by Hetty Rose Shoes with her crop top and wide trousers. Hair and luminescent makeup were by MUA Danielle Milnes and Lumi.m Bridal respectively.
