I am super excited to introduce to you another fabulous sponsor to the blog, the amazing Michael Marker Photography.
Michael is a a Devon based contemporary wedding photographer but can work throughout the UK and beyond. “I love photographing weddings and the many couples whose weddings I photograph value and cherish my unobtrusive and relaxed approach and the amazing emotional moments I capture.”
Take it away Michael…
{w} Hi, could you firstly tell {www} readers a little bit about you?
Hi, I’m Michael, a creative wedding photographer living in the South West. My home is an old atmospheric cottage in a small village, with three lovely children (sometimes anyway!) for company.
When I’m not taking photos you can find me surfing, cycling, eating out and ready biographies and art books.
{w} What do you love/dislike about your job?
I absolutely love the privilege of capturing a loving couple’s special day. Weddings and wedding guests are so much fun to capture, everyone is looking their best, happy and in party mood – who wouldn’t love my job!
I always say I have the best job in the world – I love taking photographs and meeting people and I’m my own boss.
The only dislike that springs to mind is doing my tax return!
{w} How did you get into photography and into the wedding industry?
I’ve loved the magic of taking photographs since watching my Dad taking photos of us when we were growing up. My earliest birthday memory is asking for ‘proper camera’ like my Dad’s and my first film SLR had me hooked and so excited.
Following my undergraduate days at Art College and a spell lecturing and working on a PhD I realised I loved creating works of art and being my own boss much more.
I love photographing people and weddings were the natural extension of my portrait work. I love telling the story of the day through my photos and the albums I design.
{w} What do you aim to achieve for your clients?
A personally tailored service is essential for me. Unobtrusive on the day, couples feel confident that their wedding is being captured in well composed, creative and emotive works of art.
I love it when couples look through their photos after the wedding and their look of happiness and excitement as the memories of their day come flooding back.
{w} What style is your work?
My style is photojournalistic or reportage. I capture your day as it unfolds with little intervention. It’s not about forced poses and recreated emotions. It’s about capturing the raw emotion and drama of a couple’s wedding day. I always provide full day coverage and for me capturing the day is the most important thing – you only get one shot at it!
{w} Could you tell us some information about your packages/prices?
I’ve moved away from a small number of set packages, preferring to provide flexibility and personal choice. What I do provide as standard is full consultation and planning, full day coverage, processing, online gallery and proof books. I also offer a range of professionally designed albums, print only and digital file options.
{w} Do you have any tips for couples in selecting their wedding photographer?
The most important advice I give to couples is always look at photographs from actual weddings and not just the portfolio shots, always choose a photographer you get on with – even if a small thing irritates you it will be compounded ten fold on the day! Never shop just on price – all photographers are different and levels of skill, creativity, experience and peace of mind are important. The memories from your wedding day will be captured for a lifetime, it’s not the same as buying new TV.
