Fun Glittery & Colourful Outdoor Wedding

Hugo and Jana met at Glastonbury festival and a festival feel ran throughout their wedding held on 1^st August 2015. Their first dance was the song they met to, there was live music, colour galore and even glitter face painters. The glittery theme was also reflected in the sparkly attire, gorgeous sparkler exit and twinkling fairy lights.

Jana chose a stunning white sari which she teamed with a wild flower bouquet and pretty up do, whilst Hugo donned a pale blue suit and print cravat. Didn’t they look amazing?

The ribbon adorned tree at Sparkford Hall in Somerset was just the perfect setting for their vows.

THE VISION | Fun, colourful, glittery!

THE PLANNING PROCESS | Bit stressy to be honest. Friends told me it would be but you have to go through it yourself to believe it! I found some suppliers through enthusiastic word of mouth. Google and Facebook reviews helped whittle down the rest and Sparkford directed us to some tried and trusted people as well.

THE VENUE | Sparkford Hall, Somerset.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Sari from boutique in Kolkata, India. Bespoke blouse piece. White “wedding bangle” from our Indian wedding which we celebrated earlier in the year. Sparkly bits from Olivier Laudus.

FINDING THE DRESS | In a hot, sweaty rush in the heat of Indian summer just days before our Indian ceremony – didn’t look at it again till we returned to the UK! Absolutely knew it was the one when I spotted it in the midsts of colourful rails of saris – white is not usually a bridal colour amongst Bengalis! It was a perfect fusion.

GROOM’S ATTIRE | Hugo Boss 3 piece suit, Thomas Pink, shirt, cravat. Groomsmen in beautiful fresh cotton pieces from Fab India.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | Our first dance was the song we met to in a field in Glastonbury as the Rolling Stones played. Our friend did an amazing remix of it. My brother accompanied it with a conch shell blowing over the top of the tune. Amazing! Also a sitar player as guests arrived and during cocktail hour, lovely background to set the mood of the day.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | My sister, 2 best friend’s and Hugo’s sister Nicola (who got married 3 weeks later!). Dresses in keeping – sparkly and cream from House of Fraser. We let the colour of our decorations and flowers do the vibrancy so that we stood out by being neutral.

THE FLOWERS |  Reminiscent of a wild summer meadow in festival season (before the mud!). Nigella, delphiniums, piano roses and wild daisies.

THE CAKE |  By Hugo’s Mum – home-made, sponge and delicious. She decked it out in the garden and we cut the cake with the almost full moon behind us. It was a bit magic!

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | Glitter face painters, theatrical DJs, sparkler parade, ribbons in our wedding tree under which we made our vows – I saved the leaves and seeds and have them framed on our mantelpiece.

THE HONEYMOON | Vietnam – amazing honeymoon bay view villa on Phu Quoc Island.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | The vows, the glitter, the party! We totally lucked out with the weather as there’d been the odd spot of drizzle and dark clouds. The early uncertainty made the outdoor ceremony and reception sunshine all the more appreciated. Because we were in the middle of nowhere we got to take over the house and grounds and go as late as we could handle! The evening party was really important to us – we didn’t want things to just fizzle after the meal. We decided against fireworks but instead we had fires outside and all the guests got involved and lined up with sparklers as we cut our cake. We had glitter face painting which looked wonderful and unleashed a lot of inner children! Most of our friends joined us in the basement of Sparkford which has been converted into a mini club. It seemed a fitting way to celebrate our journey from Glastonbury to married life.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Enjoy! The build up is always going to be a stress but you need to find some way to switch off from your organising mode and participate on the day by delegating to others. Take 10 mins for just the 2 of you to take it all in.
