This afternoon we are getting to know the awesomely talented Kate Lowe Photography. Kate’s images really capture the fun, the personality and the love on a wedding day. Her storytelling focus really captures all of those candid moments so when you look back in years to come you will see your wedding day as a whole. I adore the vibrancy and emotion in each of her shots and you are really going to adore her portfolio here today.

Hi Kate, could you firstly tell WWW readers a little bit about you?

I’m Kate, I live in a little Victorian terrace in Derby with my husband and little two-year-old daughter, who keeps me very much on my toes! I have a cheese obsession and have recently discovered how great craft beers are! I love nice stationery, I’m a sucker for all things Scandinavian and have visited Norway more than any other country. I love to snowboard and was lucky enough to call the French Alps home for a short time!

What do you love and dislike about your job?

I feel very lucky to be able to say I don’t dislike anything! From meeting my couples and discovering all their plans and getting excited, asking the story of how they met and got engaged, all the way through to actually shooting with them and seeing their and their friends and family’s reactions to the pictures, it’s all great! I know it’s silly but I still get really excited when I go to a wedding wondering what the dress will look like or what the groom will do when he first lays eyes on the bride. It’s different every time and it’s one of the many things I love.

How did you get into photography and the wedding industry?

After finishing my degree in Documentary Photography, I got a job at a newspaper as a photojournalist. I was lucky enough to be published in lots of national titles and magazines, and I loved how every single day was different. After I had my daughter I didn’t go back so decided to go be my own boss! It’s something I wanted to do for years and thought it felt like the perfect time to take the plunge. After saying no to weddings for ages I did a couple whilst on maternity leave and LOVED it. It was fun and challenging plus it gave me the creative space I’d been craving. After those first few the word spread and I’ve been lucky enough to get lots of lovely couples booking me.

If you could choose another role in the wedding industry what would it be?

Definitely a cake maker! I’m always in awe of the cakes I see at weddings and how creative the bakers are.

What do you aim to achieve for your clients?

My aim for the day is to exceed the expectations of my couples in every respect, I want them to be blown away by their pictures. Ideally they will pick up their album in twenty years time and go through page by page, reliving that day and all those feelings again! When I got married I remember how fast the day went, and know how much those pictures will be loved. I honestly can’t think of anything else you buy for your wedding day that actually increases in value like pictures do!

What style is your work? How would you describe your style in three words?

Creative, spontaneous storytelling! I like to work in the tradition of photojournalism capturing things as they happen, but love utilising some creative problem solving to get those specific shots I can see in my head. Ninety percent of the day is usually spent observing and being in the right place at the right time, with some creative portraits thrown in for good measure!

Could you tell us some information about your packages/prices?

I have three packages, and most clients usually go for all day coverage at £1200, and add on extras like albums or engagement shoots if they feel they need them. Each day is different, so its great to have the option. All the info you need is here.

Do you have any tips for couples in selecting their wedding photographer?

The best results I find come from when you love their work, and trust them to do their thing. Your photographer will be with you the whole day, so you need to know you get along great too. Sit down and have a cuppa and a chat with them, and you’ll know if they’re right for you.

Are you seeing any trends for the year ahead?

Lots more experimental and creative couple portraits, which can only be a good thing as they can really reflect the couples personalities well, and push the industry forward to be more creative.

Can you give us a teaser about what you are working on now?

Well my wedding season has kicked off well and truly, so I’m currently editing a lot and taking bookings for 2017! I’m also experimenting with something that I’ve been doing for personal projects for a while, which is video! I’ll be so delighted when this is ready and I can offer this to my couples as well, a sort of highlight reel from their day!
