Mismatched Fairground Woodland Wedding

Morning folks, I hope you had a super weekend filled with summer fun. Today I have a cracking celebration to share with you, set in the woodland at Brook Farm, Cuffley in Hertfordshire.

WWW readers Jade and Martyn decided to get hitched on the 20^th June 2015 and they envisioned a rustic, fun and relaxed celebration. Think funfair and games to entertain, ice cream and sweets to fill tummies and the most gorgeous DIY mismatched décor throughout. Perfection.

Jade wore a boho beautiful gown by Grace Loves Lace teamed with her mum’s veil made by her nan. Stunning! The gents meanwhile went for waistcoats, chinos and ties for a relaxed country look, while the maids wore sweet New Look frocks and flower crowns. I am in wedding heaven.

THE PROPOSAL | I had planned a rocky horror fancy dress party for my birthday in October 2013 with all my family and friends. We had set up an outdoor screen to watch the film and after the film intro it cut to videos of my friends talking about us as a couple. Then Martyn (who was dressed as Dr Frank N Furter) got down on one knee and proposed to me (dressed as Eddie). It was so lovely and I never thought I’d be proposed to in drag!

THE VISION | Relaxed, fun and a little rustic.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | The planning was done in stages, just ticking one thing off at a time. The venue I discovered on wedding blog and instantly fell in love; it was the first thing we booked and the only place we went to see. The second thing we decided on was booked pretty promptly after securing the venue and that was our wonderful photographer. The rest just came bit by bit and we tried to make and source as much by ourselves as possible.

BUDGET | £25k

THE VENUE | Brook Farm Cuffley. It’s a beautiful setting, with a large field and very pretty lake. The owners are wonderful and really made everything so easy. The only thing is that it is not yet licensed so we had to pop to the local registry office earlier in the week.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | The dress was called Collette and made by Grace Loves Lace. The veil I wore was my mums when she married my dad in the 80’s and was made by my nan so it was really special to get to wear it. I also wore a beautiful turquoise ring which I bought from IDA.

FINDING THE DRESS | I knew I wanted something floaty, comfortable and a little bit gypsy. My mum and I had bought a pattern and were going to make it but we decided that it was going to be too time consuming on top of everything else. After searching around I discovered an Australian company on Instagram called Grace Loves Lace and instantly fell in love with their Collette dress. It was a risk just ordering online but it was so worth it.

GROOM’S ATTIRE | The Grooms outfit was sourced from different high street shops as we weren’t going for a full suit. The waistcoat and cute tie pin were from River Island, chinos from Next and the Tie, belt and shoes were all from ASOS.

THE READINGS & MUSIC | We didn’t have any readings during our ceremony but instead had asked one of our very close friends to act as an officiant. He was absolutely fantastic and made it so personal to us. We didn’t really have much music during the ceremony. Our first dance was to Sophie Ellis Bextor’s Young Blood.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | I had two of my best friends as maids of honour and the rest of my bridesmaids consisted of two of my other besties, my cousin, my sister in law and my God daughter. They wore simple summer dresses from Newlook and homemade flower crowns.

THE FLOWERS | The flowers came from “The Town Florist” in Hemel Hempstead. They made the bouquets and button holes and the day before the wedding came to my mums house to give us a lesson on how to arrange them on the tables so we could do it ourselves. This cut down on cost and was actually just a really nice task. We mainly used Gypsophila, Veronica, Sunflowers, Miss Piggy Roses, Cornflowers, Craspedia and September Daisies.

THE CAKE | The cake was four tiers of vanilla chiffon sponge with cream cheese and blackberry jam filling. It was made by the wonderful CherryDee Cakes and was the best cake I’ve ever eaten.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | I wanted everything to be mismatched and rustic. All the teacups were sourced from charity shops and car boot sales as were the lampshades which we had hanging above the aisle and inside the marquee. The bunting, napkins, jam jars, runners and invites were all home made/decorated. My step dad converted a gazebo into the bar and also built me some free standing doors as the entrance to the aisle.

THE HONEYMOON | We took a month off work and drove to France, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Czech Republic, Germany and the Netherlands.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | My mum crying when helping me with my veil, playing crazy golf in the rain, our first dance.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Make sure to take a moment just the two of you even if just for 5 minutes as it’s so easy to be distracted by everyone else. Also try to account for everything when budgeting, down to the smallest things as it all adds up.
