Indie Outdoorsy Camp Wedding

Planning a wedding when you are parents of two takes a lot of thought. You want to include them as much as you can and ensure they have just as much fun. This family friendly camp wedding really touched my heart and gave me a big fat smile.

Bruce and Lynne were married on Saturday 13 August 2016 at The Keeper and the Dell in Norfolk, after holding a legal ceremony on the 10^th with just immediate family. They created a really fun outdoorsy day with indie vibes. For all of the little ones there was a kids bell tent, glitter tattoos, games, a camp fire and the cutest attire.

Talking of attire, how gorgeous did Lynne look in her Indiebride dress and accessories, I also love her gypsophila bouquet. Bruce and the boys wore coordinating chinos, waistcoats and bow ties for a super dapper look. Keep an eye out for a gorgeous marquee decked in bunting, an uber cool light up sign and delicious looking cake. Wow.

THE PROPOSAL | About 5 to midnight on 29 Feb 2012 via text to Japan!

THE VISION | Something small, relaxed and low-key but still a bit of a party and good for children (we have two). An outdoorsy element, we do a fair bit of camping.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | Haphazard! I had a spreadsheet to keep track of spends. We visited lots of venues and went to a few wedding fairs, most helpfully Godwick and Most Curious. Rest of finds were mainly via internet.

THE VENUE | Found by chance on the web, the Keeper and the Dell. We have no particular Norfolk connections (this did give us some logistical challenges later on) but loved it and it introduced us to a beautiful part of the country. Lolly and her team took great care of us.

THE DRESS & ACCESSORIES | Dress, belt and headband by Indiebride (part of Minna), sandals by asos.

FINDING THE DRESS | A 2-day now or never trip with my sister as it was all we could fit in. We found Minna as she had been at my sister’s pub down in Dorset the week before, and booked into her workshop in Brixton for first ever try on – the dress I’d liked on the web looked awful on me, but a few more goes and found this one. We went to one more dress shop but then headed back to Minna’s the following morning to put in my order and her dressmaker Miina took brilliant care of us from there on in. Still can’t believe it was that stress free.

GROOM’S ATTIRE | Charles Tyrwhitt for trousers, Debenhams for waistcoats, moaningminnie on etsy for tweed bow ties. I made Bruce’s wedding ring at a Rachel Jeffery jewellery workshop, which I highly recommend!

THE READINGS & MUSIC | One of my best friends wrote a potted history of us and our bridesmaids read The Owl and the Pussycat. We walked down the hill to Spiritualized and out to The Flaming Lips.

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Our daughters and nieces (and nephews as ushers). Dresses from Zara, I made the headdresses myself. My sister walked me down the aisle. Ushers wore same as groom.

THE FLOWERS | We bought wholesale from Triangle Nursery near Ipswich and taught ourselves to make basic bouquets from YouTube. My friends and family arranged the rest at the site the day before and also made a brilliant arch from lots of Ringland ivy!

THE CAKE | The very lovely Emma Thorburn at Buns of Fun. We only gave her a very vague brief and she interpreted this perfectly.

YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER | Emily Tyler and her assistant Katie. Both were fab, we are so pleased with our photos, lots of lovely informal shots.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | K&tD is already so pretty and adding more décor means more clean-up the next day. We made signs from junk pictures, had a glitter bar, disco, games and chill-out tent for the kids, a short-lived home made photo booth, and an old piece of curtain fabric was re-purposed to become a wall hanging for our guests to sign. We had a buffet lunch in the marquee and evening food on the terrace, all provided by Julia’s team at Purple Plum Catering. We danced to a home made playlist, sat out by the firepit, then camped out in bell tents and made breakfast on camping stoves the following morning. We made our own invites, thank-you cards and a lot of sloe gin.

THE HONEYMOON | We haven’t booked yet…. kids, jobs etc.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Bruce seeing us walking down the hill for the ceremony. The celebrant reading out additional vows we’d not chosen! Dancing all night and not wanting it to end. Waking up the next day and wanting to do it again – we both enjoyed it far more than we thought we would!

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | There’s lots of stuff you don’t need, we still took far too much. Don’t stress about the bits that don’t go to plan, just enjoy the day. We kept guest numbers even lower than originally envisaged so that we could fit adults and kids in the marquee to eat but there still didn’t seem to time to chat for long enough, so bear that in mind when you are looking at numbers. Don’t be in the middle of major house renovations if you can help it 🙂
