1970s Gypsy Bohemian Autumn Woodland Wedding Ideas

Autumn is the wedding season of 2017 it seems. It’s become more and more popular since Whimsical Wonderland Weddings started almost 8 years ago now. You know what, we love it. I mean the colours, the fair weather and the festivities are all so fun.

This inspirational Autumnal shoot is filled with seasonal and lush ideas for couples hoping to tie the knot in the Autumn months. With 1970s gypsy style, a rich, warm colour palette and sumptuous styling, you’re going to love it all. I adore the vintage dresses, that super size wreath backdrop and the blooming gorgeous bouquet to boot.

Let’s hear from the organiser and photographer, Caroline Opacic Photography.

This shoot was the brainchild of myself and Anna from Lucky Sixpence Bridal. Both loving vintage, our idea was focused around 1970s gypsy style, think tarot card readers in a caravan.

We approached Alice, the owner of Winnie the Vintage Caravan and she came up with the idea of using her new wedding venue, Festival Farms near Braintree as our location. The location was gorgeous, with a woodland ceremony area, a meadow, and of course, Winnie the Vintage Caravan.

Rock the Day and Vintage Garden weddings collaborated to style the farm, and having worked with both of them before, I knew they would deliver something glorious based on the colour palette; deep orange, teal and copper. We really wanted to do something different, which felt like a step away from wedding traditions.

We created a ceremony area in the wood, with a gorgeous copper arch, which later doubled as a stand to hang one of Lucky & Co’s cakes from. Next to a den in the woods we styled a table with rose gold and orange crockery, and a very seasonal floral decoration by The Country Garden Flower Company. This married perfectly with Lucky & Co’s second selection of wedding cakes, stood on a log base and covered with moss.

Stationery was provided by Anon Design, their teal watercolour design and agate slices paired perfectly with the deep orange hues and autumnal foliage. We shot this on a vintage dresser, next to a gorgeous vintage sofa provided by Anthology Hire, and with lamps hanging from the trees around it.

This was probably my favourite set up, it will hopefully encourage couples to try something new, no matter how quirky it might feel! We even managed to get Alice’s reluctant kitten in the shoot as an extra.

Our model was Katharine, a client I had photographed during an engagement shoot earlier in the year. We dressed her in three dresses from Lucky Sixpence Bridal, including an incredible bat-wing design from the 1970s.

Amongst the wooded ceremony areas, and floral rings hanging from the trees, the gypsy feel really came through. Her make up, by Knot Your Average Bride, was kept beautifully neutral and we paired it with a loose up-do by Original Button Hair.

Everything felt wonderfully effortless and natural, the approach I wanted for the whole shoot.

We had shoes from Merle & Morris, and two stunning vintage styled rings from London Victorian Ring Co.

Overall I am so pleased with how this turned out! Whilst being seasonal, it doesn’t feel like a regular autumnal wedding. I loved how everything felt like it came together effortlessly, with a really natural feel, perfectly reflecting the gorgeous setting of Festival Farms.
