I love the 1940s era. There is something so romantic about this time. So when this gorgeous vintage style wedding ideas shoot was sent to me I was over the moon.

Planned by Sara Ribera Photography and Wilderness Bride; these images really evoke a feeling of a bygone era. Part in thanks to the stunning vintage dresses and cool groom style, but also due to the city location. There are opulent flowers, mesmerising styling, decadent stationery and a perfect cake creation to name just a few. I defy you not to get lost in these totally beautiful captures.

Vintage Style Wedding Ideas

A sunny, warming, welcoming Monday in late September brought about the meeting of creative souls, encompassed in the sublime Stockport restaurant, Where The Light Gets In. Directed and curated by the talented Sara Ribera Photography and Wilderness Bride, a divine marriage of 1940s vintage and the essence of Manchester style took place.

Creativity at its finest; visionary wedding suppliers screaming to let loose following an incredibly harnessed and decimated 2020 wedding season, found such solace in this wonderfully enchanting afternoon.

Where The Light Gets In is in the heart of Manchester suburb, Stockport. It is a warm and airy open-kitchen serving elevated small meat-focussed plates with paired wines. The focus is heavily on local produce, a lot grown on their own farm and seasonal ingredients. This spacious, light location provided an impeccable backdrop for the styled shoot.

Sara Ribera Photography has an exquisite talent, executed so perfectly behind the lens. She has a passion for narrative and capturing the candid essence of a wedding or an intimate event. Sara’s vision for the shoot was to encapsulate the 1940s glamour against the airy and intimate backdrop of the Mancunian hidden gem. This work is a sight to behold.

Florence & Vera Events styled a vintage inspired tablescape, using dark, heavy materials highlighted with brass candlesticks, tall tapered Ester & Erik candles and exquisite crockery and glassware by Whitehouse Crockery. There were vintage accents of blush, pink and lighter tones added through the use of the beautiful Silk & Purl napkins, to allow the beautiful floral ingredients to pop against the moody background. Capturing the essence of the 1940s vintage glamour but also oozing with Manchester style and embracing the stunning industrial backdrop.

A muted palette of burgundy, soft pink and pops of peach nestled amongst lush green foliage make up this 1940s inspired wedding scene. Gorgeous full blooms and spray roses are set off with trailing ivy and ethereal asparagus fern, arranged in the loose, natural style characteristic of Living Colour. Step inside a secret Autumn garden of textural heathers and fluffy grasses.

Luxurious velvet ribbons draped across tables provide tactile touches which perfectly echo the distressed wood and exposed brick of the Where The Light Gets In loft. Gold accents shimmer in the flickering incandescence of classic taper candles and tea lights – adding romance and warmth to this spacious venue. Think Ernest Hemingway and Arthur Miller, Cary Grant and Rita Hayworth, Charlie Parker and Frank Sinatra.

Revel in the moments of glory we stumble upon in these most turbulent of times. Pour the whiskey, stain lips crimson and whirl through this wild floral dream of the 1940s.

Lady Madeline created a one-tier black iced cake, with intricate floral and petal detail in burgundy and blush tones. It was a captivated centrepiece to the day and really incorporated the 1940s element.

Wilderness Bride is passionate about handcrafted bridal wear. Their designs are influenced by all things natural and heritage with a minimal and simplistic edge. We take inspiration from classical literature, folklore and nature and intertwine with contemporary elements.

The mood board and theme was a preppy 1940s vibe with a moody modern twist- soaking up all of those Halloween and Autumn vibes. Taking into consideration how the smaller ‘micro’ weddings happening now are reminiscent of the smaller weddings from the 1940s – people married at the church/registry office and then had small gatherings at restaurants, homes, gardens and church halls.

Our lovely Groom, Will donned a preppy but cosy vintage jumper whilst the striking Bride Shannon, showcased a vintage selection of vintage inspired dresses and veils and kept the whole look relevant and wearable.

The Victoria Invitation Suite is inspired by the dark and moody floral oil paintings from the 1900’s. Re-coloured to create a modern twist, this collection features an autumnal palette of rust, blush and light nude tones, which are showcased beautifully when paired with matt black envelopes. Gold foil highlights shimmer on handmade cotton paper to add a touch of 1940’s glamour.
