The main wedding entertainment trend we’re looking forward to in 2021 is… the return of wedding entertainment! 2020 was a tough old year for everyone involved with weddings, from couples facing the stress of changing plans to bands facing uncertainty over when they’ll get to pick up their instruments and do what they love again.
So that’s trend number one of 2021: celebrating that we can be together and celebrate again.
Now to the good stuff: the styles and genres of wedding entertainment couples are demanding from the team at Entertainment Nation this year (and the demand is growing, so it’s worth making your enquiries sooner rather than later):
Folky, Mumford-inspired bands are amongst our most popular performers at Entertainment Nation. Why is that? Everything about a festival-themed band is perfect for weddings: they look the part and fit in beautifully with rustic venues and themes; they freshen up classic songs in a unique and memorable way; and, most importantly, they get everyone smiling, singing and dancing. Like we said: perfect.
DJ live acts recreate those balmy evenings in a Balearic beachside bar before launching into the excitement of an all-night party. These exciting mashups of DJ and live musician bring the hottest dance tracks – and your wedding reception – to life. The most popular combination is a DJ alongside a live saxophonist playing addictive dance melodies while a live percussionist brings the rhythm to keep everyone glued to the dance floor.
Speaking of sax, it’s not just as part of DJ Live Acts where we’re seeing a surge in interest from couples: whether it’s a soul and Motown band, acoustic folk band – even a rock and pop band – we’re getting couples saying, “I want that… but with sax!”. We’re not going to argue. Adding a sax to your band’s line-up fills out their sound, adding texture to their performance and enabling them to perform a wider range of songs. And besides… who can resist a dirty sax solo?
Due to how the world is right now, we’re seeing a rise in more intimate weddings. So how does it work when you’re hosting a smaller wedding but want a big performance from your entertainment? A big little act is the answer! Think soloists, duos and trios who use loop pedals and/or professionally-recorded backing tracks to supplement their sound, giving you the best of both worlds: a big performance at your intimate wedding reception.
Bringing us neatly back to our main wedding music trend for 2021: celebrating that we can celebrate. There’s nothing quite so effective in helping guests shed their inhibitions and let loose (that isn’t alcohol) than a bit of throwback fun in the form of a Britney / Backstreet Boys / Brit Pop medley. Whether you go the whole hog and book a 90s tribute act or opt for the measured approach of asking your band to include a cluster of carefree 90s hits, you’ll never forget being alongside your nearest and dearest on the dance floor, arms aloft, belting out the words to yet another nostalgic anthem you forgot you loved. Parklife.
Whether you’re bang on trend or you’re more of a traditionalist, whether you know exactly what you want from your entertainment or you don’t know where to start, the friendly team over at Entertainment Nation are happy to help. We’re immersed in the world of wedding music, and we can tailor suggestions to meet your requirements. We look forward to helping you discover your dream entertainment.
