Ohh how I adore the minimalist barn wedding of Jessica and Joseph, who were wed in the Autumn at Wick Bottom Barn in Wiltshire. Their day was classic, simple and personal, with so much personality infused to make their day, their own.

From the special church ceremony to the epic DIY wedding decor, they really did make everything special to them. With muted tones in the outfits (think brown and taupe), greenery blooms everywhere and absolutely gorgeous stationery crafted by Jessica.

One of my very favourite things has to be Jessica’s sequin wedding gown in which she looked incredible! Then there were the super fun smoke bomb snaps, caterpillar cakes and fun dance floor action. YES!

Amber Louise Photography is spreading the joy with these sensational shots, thanks so much for sharing Amber.

Minimalist Barn Wedding

The Proposal

Joe proposed in Budapest at Christmas 2019. It’s a city we both love and we returned to a spot where we left a love lock during our first visit and Joe asked me to marry him!

The Vision

I knew I wanted our wedding day to be timeless and elegant. We wanted a venue that we were able to put our stamp on where we could bring our vision to life without restriction.

The Budget

Absolutely blown (you don’t need to add that Amber 😂)

The Venue

We had our ceremony in our local church and our reception Wick Bottom Barn, Marlborough.

The barn is hired almost completely empty and you are able to create your wedding, your way. We hired in a variety of companies for lighting, floristry, catering, bar, furniture and tableware, and decor. The barn itself is beautiful with the biggest fireplace you have ever seen, original 19th century features and acres of land making for a secluded and private celebration.

After three days of building and decorating with the help of friends, family and our brilliant suppliers, it came together to be more than we could have hoped for.

The Outfits

I bought my wedding dress 1 month after getting engaged from ASOS! I knew I wanted sparkle and sparkly it certainly was. I had planned to keep it as a ‘just incase’ dress and visit the bridal boutiques nearer the time of our wedding.

Unfortunately, the pandemic then hit and dress shopping was harder than we thought. With limited options, my mum and I visited some local shops but I didn’t fall in love with any of the dresses quite like the one I already had so we headed home to retry it on and I knew from there it was the dress I wanted to get married in!

The men’s suits were purchased from Slaters. My husband chose a brown tweed which complimented the colours of the bridesmaids’ dresses and suited the venue perfectly.

The Ceremony & Music

We had our ceremony in our local church. We were the vicars first ever wedding and he was fantastic at making it modern and lighthearted as well as keeping the importance and the traditions too.

The evening music was provided by Brother From Another who kept everyone on the dance floor all night. They put together an arrangement for our first dance to Set You Free by N-Trance with a slow and romantic first verse and then breaking into the uptempo chorus for all our guests to dance with us!

You Photographer

Our photographer was the incredibly talented Amber Louise Photography. Having known Amber for many years it was a pleasure to have her capture our wedding day. Amber made us feel so relaxed resulting in beautifully natural photos and brought so much fun to the day as well as keeping her professional standards throughout.

By the time we had woken up the next morning, Amber had already edited a handful of the photographs and sent these over to us which is not only a wonderful touch but to have a sneak peek of what is to come kept the wedding excitement alive!

The Styling & Decor

I knew I wanted our wedding day to be timeless and elegant. We went with a theme of classic golds, whites and greens as well as incorporating natural colours and textures. We kept things relatively simple and minimalistic with lots of foliage and candles as the main decor.

Our florist, Kath, created a huge display above the fireplace of foliage and white roses to match the bouquets. Kath worked so hard to create suspended foliage displays above the tables. Paul from Lightfantastic then incorporated the pendant lights and the result were stunning.

Most of the decor and stationery was DIY with hours spent designing, printing and painting. I was focused on ordering from small businesses and Natalie from Kerley Krafts helped to create all the beautiful signage.

We had large Collin and Connie caterpillar cakes from M&S and with the help of my mum added some personalised touches so that they reflected us.

The Honeymoon

We spent 5 days on the beautiful island of Mykonos. Drinking cocktails and relaxing as much as we possibly could after such a busy month. We then returned for a week in north Cornwall, drinking cups of tea and having plenty of walks on the beach with our dog, Penny.

Memorable Moments

I think the most memorable moment for me was when my husband and I drove together from the church to the reception venue. We had borrowed an old Landrover from a friend and my husband packed a surprise picnic and champagne. Having a little bit of time together with no one else around to reflect on the fact we had just become husband and wife was so special.

Advice For Other Couples

Do it your way. If you want to do something that is a little different and outside of tradition then remember it is your day and focus on what is important to you.

Accept help from those who want to help you. It can get really overwhelming and people love to be involved, so give out tasks to family and friends!
