What a delight it is to be sharing WWW readers Rebecca and Dave’s alternative Scottish wedding. They tied the knot at The Cowshed Crail in Scotland in pure boho floral style with a touch of Lord of the Rings for good measure!

First up, I have to rave about Rebecca’s stunning blush pink embroidered wedding dress which was a total showstopper. Then there were the stunning colourful flowers and Dave’s cool burgundy suit. From the multicolour bridesmaid dresses to the cute DIY wedding decor, you’re going to swoon over this whole day.

Northern Aye Photography thanks ever so much for sharing with us these utterly sublime images.

Rebecca and Dave on WWW

I loved the style and aesthetics of the featured weddings and found it a great source of inspiration for quirky/alternative Scottish suppliers.

Alternative Scottish Wedding

The Proposal

We were on a beautiful, remote beach on a Thai island. We’d had a perfect day and were sitting with a cocktail in hand, stargazing. Everything just seemed to fall into place and we agreed we should get married.

The Vision

Dave is a big Lord of the Rings fan and said he wanted something like Bilbo’s 111th birthday. I wanted something boho and colourful, most importantly, we wanted our guests to have an amazing time! Over time, this solidified into a boho colourful wildflower theme.

Budget

£25k – we were aiming for £20k, but those little add-ons mount up quickly!

Your Outfits

Wedding Dress: Rowan Joy – I wanted something that felt bridal but not overly traditional. I loved Rowan’s fairy queen aesthetic, I felt it tied in with my vision of a colourful wildflower wedding whilst also being a showstopper.

Suit – Edinburgh Tailoring Company – I envisaged my wedding suit being a burgundy three-piece which is a very difficult criteria to fufil off the rack as I discovered when I went searching. Therefore, I got in touch with the guys at the ETC and they understood exactly what I was after and created a fantastic suit.

The Ceremony & Music

We wanted a very personal ceremony, which our guests felt they were part of. We went with Kate Strachan, a humanist celebrant, who pretty much gave us free rein over the whole thing! I walked down the aisle to a recording of The Kite String and the Anchor Rope by Prides, a favourite song which holds a lot of meaning for us and also sounds as beautiful as our venue looked.

We said personalised thank yous to each other, for everything we’ve given in the relationship, followed by personal vows. We also drank from the quaich, an old Scottish tradition to celebrate the union of two families.

A really special part of the ceremony came at the end. We’re not religious, but we loved the idea of a good singsong, like you get in church weddings. We chose Lava from the Pixar short film of the same name, because it made us cry the first time we watched it. It’s a really joyous song about two people (volcanoes) falling in love in spite of everything they’ve been through. My sister played it on the ukulele and we sang along with all of our guests.

Your Photographer

We picked Doug as our photographer because we loved his laidback, natural style and how he seemed to really capture the vibe of the day. And he absolutely knocked it out of the park with our photos. We are delighted with them, and they bring back the happiest memories of a great day.

The Styling & Decor

I (Rebecca) did a lot of the décor myself. I made floral chandeliers, for the marquee, as well as a huge floral arch for the ceremony. We made the table plan from a mirror we had, with some printing from Etsy. We got the fresh flowers from a local flower grower (which is a great way to be more sustainable) and I arranged them. I’m not a pro-flower arranger, so it definitely fitted in with the rustic aesthetic!

The Honeymoon

We haven’t yet gone on our honeymoon (weddings are expensive!) but have booked to go to Thailand and Laos in December this year to escape winter. We’re also planning to go back to the same beach where we got engaged as part of the trip.

Memorable Moments

What will always stick with us is how windy the day was. There’s some great photographs of the wedding dress billowing in the breeze. Also the excellent speeches from our friends and family. Overall we just remember a lot of love and a lot of fun.

Advice For Other Couples

Spreadsheets are your friend. Prioritise what is most important to you and budget accordingly. Things will go wrong, but relax, it will still be amazing!
