I am bursting at the seems with pride to be bringing another fabulous sponsor on board at the {www} family.
The incredibly talented and super lovely Lucy from Lucy Turnbull Photography is now live on the site {see to your right!}. Lucy is a wedding photographer based in Cornwall but is available to travel to you nationwide. With a beautiful natural style of photography, Lucy really captures emotions in her work. Anyway, i shall stop rambling and let Lucy introduce herself and her business to you today 🙂
{w} Hi Lucy, could you firstly tell {www} readers a little bit about you?
Available in a town near you – HAVE CAMERA, WILL TRAVEL.
I’m Lucy. I’m a photographer based down in Cornwall. I have 2 small children who, like toddlers the world over, keep me very busy and generally food-spotted.
I scuba dive, I surf (badly) and am fond of croissants and Earl Grey tea shared from enamel cups with my husband.
I own more wetsuits than shoes and haven’t seen my hip bones since my first pregnancy.
{w} What do you love + dislike about being a photographer?
Dislike? Nothing. What’s not to love? It’s what I’ve been aiming at for so long. Sometimes it’s a little tricky making time for everything but we’re getting there.
What I do like is that I get to do something I’ve been passionate about for as long as I can remember. I get super-excited and the right kind of terrified before every shoot.
{w} How did you get into photography and into the wedding industry?
Since I was a wee small thing I’ve wanted to be a photographer. Or rather, I’ve wanted to take photographs. This early interest has led to an almost fanatical compulsion that has, in turn, led to ever-larger handbags that must allow for an SLR, lenses, filters, remote flash, nappies and wipes, a book, a .. you get the picture.
Why weddings? Initially I was resistant. When I got married I didn’t want a photographer. I didn’t want loads of images of Grandma in her best hat and people looking polite but bored. What I wanted was something that described us, the people we love and our day and that would excite us in the years to come. I needed a touch of drama and glamour.
It was something of an epiphany when I realised I had the skills and, crucially, the confidence to deliver this to clients.
It was rather more of a shock to discover quite how much I love doing it.
{w} What style is your work?
I try to keep fairly low-key and to not direct anything. I guess my work is mostly lifestyle blended with reportage.
I do formal shots – of course I do- but I find the best shots tend to be the stolen ones.
My photographic heroes are the early Europeans – Cartier-Bresson, Doisneau, Kertesz. They had a magical ability to draw grace and unexpected beauty from the banal and the work-a-day.
It’s really important to me that I keep shooting the things I love and that I keep on growing as a photographer. I’m currently undertaking a long project based on performance which is taking me to some pretty exciting events. I’ve been allowed to shoot at Ronnie Scott’s in Soho, am due to shortly do a portrait and action shoot for a female cage fighter, have been working with the excellent (and fantastically tattooed) rock band Huron and a burlesque performer. There’s also the tango dancer, the chef… the list goes on and I’m having a fab time doing it.
{w} Could you tell us some information about your packages/prices?
Prices range from £550 for a disc to £1200 for the whole shebang including a photobooth. Full details are on my site
I like to be flexible. I’m not above bribery by flattery.
If possible, I like to do a pre-wedding shoot so that we can get used to each other and also have a chance to talk about what approach you’d like to take to the shooting on the day. This shoot is at no extra cost. I’ll also be available on the phone should you have any queries or ideas you’d look me to incorporate.
{w} Do you have any tips for couples in selecting photographers?
Make sure you like them and that you’re not going to find them stressful or bossy. It’s your big day – not theirs.
{w} How can we get in touch with you?
