I must say the newest member of the Whimsical Wonderland Weddings family, brand new sponsor Samuel Docker Photography has me feeling pretty excited. His photography is fresh, modern and so very emotive.
Samuel Docker Photography is based in Derbyshire but is available to work throughout the UK and beyond. I just know you WWWers are going to love Sam and his gorgeous images.
I’m Sam, just about still in my twenties, I’m a very new and proud dad, and owner of far too many cameras and lenses!! I’m a huge MadMen and Boardwalk Empire fan, and I recently developed a slight man crush for Ryan Gosling (you’ll understand if you’ve seen Drive!)
The term “Dislike” doesn’t really feature in my job, I know it’s a cliché’d comment, but I do feel really lucky to be doing something that I absolutely love. Everything about meeting clients and talking about their wedding plans, creating concepts for new shoots and sitting down to edit a great wedding are just a few of the highlights besides actually shooting!!
Its taken 10 years of trying many different lines of work to discover what really makes me tick. I’ve been a draughtsman, studied creative design and owned a vintage clothing business, but I’d always had a huge passion for creative art and design, and a few years back I wasn’t getting that fix. This period of displeasure coincided with a couple of influencing moments; the first was the purchase of a Canon AE-1 35mm film camera, it was an impulsive purchase, but integral to the start of my new direction. The second was a trip to Stockholm (http://www.samueldocker.co.uk/stockholm/) with my fiancé. By the time we’d set off for Stockholm, I’d had plenty of practice with my new (but old) camera, I’d made plenty of mistakes, the highlight being not loading a roll of film correctly, I didn’t find this out though until I took it to the shop to be processed, my heart sank when I was told it was a blank film!! Stockholm changed everything though, I couldn’t put my camera down, much to my fiancés displeasure!! I’ve not really looked back since, I completely got the bug for it.
My very best work to date. I’m always looking to improve and get better, and I genuinely think that as a photographer you’re only as good as your last shot. I always try and bring a new shot/concept to the table for each wedding, and try to create something that not only reflects my couple, but is also unique to their venue. I can’t stand the idea of taking a shot that every other couple at that venue has had, kissing gates and benches *cough, cough*!!!
Its hard to exactly define my work to one particular style, I’m certainly not traditional, that’s for sure. I’ve definitely been inspired by vintage and film photography, but there are also very modern and contemporary influences in my work.
I try to keep it really simple, I offer a straight-forward day rate of £1400 for unlimited coverage. Included is a pre-wedding consultation, and individually edited images are provided with full copyright. Albums, prints, engagement shoots, 2nd photographers and photo booths are also available on enquiry.
Study their work, if they don’t have a blog that doesn’t inspire you, keep looking. Never book a photographer just because someone told you they know a photographer or because a friend used them! And finally, and most importantly, meet them, this will be somebody you’ll be around all day, you need to know that you’ll be comfortable around them, or it will show in the photo’s.
