Karen from Ruby’s Tea Party wanted to celebrate the anniversary of the story and what better way than to create incredible inspirational images? There is so much to love here, a spectacular cake takes centre stage surrounded by pretty crockery, divine blooms, a stunning floral dress and pretty paper to name a few. “2015 was the 150th anniversary of Lewis Carroll’s iconic story ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and I wanted to do something to commemorate it. My vintage china has been used by many brides and grooms with an Alice theme and my collection of items really lends itself to a whimsical style.

I wanted to showcase the north east and also the season to put a slightly different spin on the classic imagery so I set up an outdoor tea party as well as a tea party in bed.”

“During a visit to Woodhill Hall in the summer, I knew this was the perfect location for the shoot. Woodhill has a really eclectic style with the most amazing wallpaper and every room is different. The word quirky is used very loosely these days but Woodhill demonstrates the true sense of the word. The venue also has an incredible, long, tree lined drive which gave me a great spot for an outdoor tea party.”

“I invited Sadie May Cakes to get involved with the shoot after seeing her incredible Alice in Wonderland cake. I’ve worked with Sharon from Sadie May Cakes before and our styles of work really complement each other. She made a fabulous selection of cakes, cookies, doughnut stacks and other sweet delights all decorated with seasonal fruit, eat me tags, pocket watches and lots of gold glitter. The centrepiece show cake can be made in any colours and so I asked her for bold blue and autumnal berry colours.”

“Natalie Pluck is an amazing photographer who I have also had the pleasure of working with previously. Her style is beautiful, vintage and romantic and she captured the essence of the shoot perfectly. The weather on the day was incredible especially since it was early November in the middle of Northumberland. Natalie is also a dream to work with as she’s so relaxed without compromising the quality of the image. She instinctively knew how to get the best out of each set up.”

“I asked Kelly from Bed of Roses Floral Design to collaborate on the shoot too and provide some floral arrangements. The brief was to add pops of colour and fill teacups and teapots with flowers.”

“The model, Michaela, wore a dress designed by Kathryn Russell who also supplied the wired bouquet and headpiece for the shoot. The incredible dress which features 3D faux flowers sewn onto the skirt underneath the top layer is from her Country Garden Collection. Kathryn designs classic and fairytale but always unique dresses and accessories.”

“The Vintage Wedding Company designed a brilliant stationery suite to tie in with the shoot which included gorgeous vintage keys that I tied on with vibrant pink and teal satin ribbons. The ‘eat me’ and ‘drink me’ tags were fab too.”

“Emma Bunting supplied the most beautiful bunting made from vintage silks. She has a fantastic range of bunting for hire and this one really suited the style that I was going for on the day.”
