Toe tapping, can’t stop yourself dancing tunes are exactly what your wedding is crying out for. That’s just what you’ll receive from 9-piece band Blue Attic and their fabulous repertoire, which ranges from 60s classics to modern songs. In fact watching their fantastic performances below had me dancing in my office chair, try it out for yourself and see. Their sound is rich and full with a professional quality.
Read on to find out all about them and their top tips on ensuring your wedding band is super happy at your wedding party…
I’m Dave, the drummer and band manager of the wedding band Blue Attic.
First and foremost, being involved in a huge event in people’s lives is a massive honour and a great privilege. Dealing with the bride and/or groom in the lead-up to their wedding, and then seeing all the plans come together on the day, is a real thrill.
Being the drummer, I get to look out onto the dancefloor and see everyone dancing and having a great time, which is a great buzz – particularly when you’re facilitating the dancing! You’re playing to a crowd of people who are in the mood for great time… what’s not to love ?
The core of Blue Attic formed at Cardiff University, where we would perform at all the (university) society balls. After we graduated we all lived in or around London (and still do so today), so decided to carry on performing together, and haven’t looked back since. We have performed at some fantastic venues (such as London’s famous Shoreditch House and Groucho Club), journeyed to the top of a Swiss mountain, and even appeared on the popular TV show Made In Chelsea!
For me, the day of a wedding would always start with loading the drums into the car – I can’t leave home without them! Once that’s done I’d usually do some final preparation work on our set – re-listening to any songs that I need to, and if necessary, scoring or charting them out. After that I’d shower, get my stage clothes together, stick the venue address in the SatNav, and jump in the car. All told this usually takes several hours… and that’s even before I’ve arrived at the venue to set up!
Probably a chef – the band love some good wedding food and each band member definitely has their favourite dish… which will often be talked about for years on end!
To guarantee to get their guests on the dancefloor!
The band primarily perform as a 6-piece group, compromising female vocals, lead guitar and vocals, keyboards, saxophone, bass guitar and drums. However – with the addition of a percussionist, and a trumpet and trombone player, and if budget and space allows, we can expand to a 9-piece band. The 9-piece band is performing in our live videos. Full PA, lighting, and background music (on an iPod) is included in all our packages as standard.
In addition to the main band, we can also offer DJ, jazz, and string quartet packages.
My top three tips would be…
Always be kind, welcoming and understanding to your band – they have often been up very early preparing for your wedding and travelled long hours to get to you. Try not to rush them, and allow them the time and space they need to be comfortable – it will make them feel more relaxed and result in a better performance for your guests. A smiling face goes a long way.
Make sure to provide food and some drinks for the band – a hot meal is always preferable and will be most welcome, particularly if the band have travelled a long way. Furthermore – changing in the toilet / car / round the back of the marquee is manageable, and many bands will be used to doing so, but if you can provide a private space / dressing room for the band to relax pre-show, even better! Changing in the rain, in the open air, is not fun for anyone.
Relax! Discuss any songs requests (or non-requests!) in advance with your band, and on the day just cut loose and enjoy yourself. You need to have a good time as well as your guests, so have the confidence to do so. Leave the band to it and hit the dancefloor!
