Goodness, Ellie and Matthias’ Cotswold marquee wedding was heavenly. From the beautiful sage green and pale blue tones to the rustic DIY decorations and potted plants throughout, you are going to adore their day.
I love how relaxed and informal their wedding felt, with a sublime countryside setting and the prettiest blooms. Their tip to use potted plants as decor and then replant in your garden is genius, budget-friendly and of course great for the planet. Win-win!
Look out for the most stylish of outfits, the cutest pup, a cool convertible and not one, but two cakes. Yes! Plus it’s great to see WWW wedding supplier Tailored Entertainment providing the live band come evening.
Captured by Katrina, I can’t thank you enough for sharing your utterly mesmerising images with us.
In December 2019 we went on holiday to our favourite place: Scotland. Just the two of us and our dog, Poppy.
Matthias had organised lots of beautiful dog walks and one morning we set off up Drummond Hill to Black Rock View Point which looks over Loch Tay. It had snowed the night before and it was Poppy’s first snow experience. We got to the beautiful viewpoint, Ellie was marvelling at the view with Poppy whilst Matthias was busy rummaging through his rucksack, much to her frustration that he wasn’t enjoying the view!
When Ellie turned around, Matthias was down on one knee… after clarifying it definitely wasn’t a joke the answer was of course YES!
Matthias had commissioned the most beautiful bespoke sapphire and diamond engagement ring with Heidi Kjeldsen @heidikjeldsenltd who was incredible and he thoroughly recommends.
We wanted something relaxed, rustic and informal – we love the countryside and Ellie had always wanted to get married at her family home in Broadway in the Cotswolds – luckily Matthias loved the idea too!
We planned our budget around the most important things to us being great food (which is our passion), fantastic entertainment and set in a beautiful marquee. The rest would follow.
Anything we could do ourselves we did: Ellie designed the invitations and stationery and Matthias designed and planted out every wheelbarrow and garden trough we could find! We also used timber pallets to make a lot of the decorations (lockdown project!).

I fell in love with the Made with Love “Rosey” dress and veil as soon as I set eyes on it. I bought a different version to what they had in the boutique (different colour and skirt) which was a risk as I’d never seen the dress until it arrived 4 months before the wedding – luckily the risk paid off – I loved it!
Matthias bought two suits in the run-up to the wedding but ended up wearing the one from Moss Bros.
Matthias’ Mum made our wedding rings which is incredibly special and gives us yet another reason to cherish them for life.

This was at St Eadburga’s Church in Broadway which is a small, intimate and beautiful church. We just about managed to squeeze our 100 guests in!

Captured by Katrina – Katrina was incredible and made us both feel so at ease – she was more of a guest than a photographer by the end!

The colour theme was sage green and pale blues – the flower theme was relaxed, county garden and whimsical. We did the outdoor flower decorations ourselves but got a florist for the bouquets, table flowers and the church flowers.
We’d thoroughly recommend potting up arrangements yourself, we had so much fun and the end result was perfect! We re-used all the potted plants in our garden so now have a flowerbed dedicated to our wedding day.
The wooden decorations including the table plan, welcome board, just married sign, Swedish lanterns and “best day ever” photo opportunity frame were all made by Matthias.
The table styling was designed by us but executed by our fantastic caterers @caviarandchips who really went above and beyond on the days leading up to the wedding and the day itself. The candleholders were made by Ellie’s dad from logs of silver birch cut from Matthias’s family woodland in Lincolnshire, and the table stationery designed by Ellie.
We picked and dried rose petals from our family gardens the summer before and bought biodegradable paper bags and personalised stickers off Etsy.
The wedding cake was made by one of Ellie’s closest friends, Jade @jadeconfectionery and the cheese “cake” was generously donated by Matthias’s Godparents and makers of Lincolnshire Poacher cheese.

We went to Sri Lanka for 2 weeks in March and it was phenomenal. We would thoroughly recommend Sri Lanka to anyone – it was the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. Hotel recommendations: Jetwing Vil Uyana, Ceylon Tea Trials, Uga Chena Huts and Amangalla.

This day will be the best day of your entire life – enjoy every moment, it flies by and any stresses along the way are SO worth it!
Find time for each other! It’s your day -don’t spend it looking after your guests and making small talk with family. Make time throughout the day to enjoy each other’s company and revel in your own happiness!
Make use of the marquee the next day, people really appreciated coming back for some chill time and garden games before heading off on long journeys.
In the few days before we kind of regretted not having a wedding planner – it was incredibly stressful with all the suppliers turning up a few days before to set things up – although it’s also a great feeling to know we did it all ourselves!
Well wasn’t that just all so beautiful?
Ellie and Matthias’ thank you ever so much for sharing your very special Cotswold marquee wedding story.
