Intimate & Romantic Destination Dubrovnik Wedding

Oh the sunset, what a view! Welcoming Guy and Lisa to the blog today with their gorgeous Dubrovnik wedding held on the 29th June 2019 at Villa Rose in Croatia. Their day was super intimate and romantic with a great party. Most importantly though they describe their day as ‘us‘, this is something I strive to help every couple achieve that is a part of our community.

I adore the beautiful setting, the stylish attire, the pink blooms and all the smiles from Guy and Lisa’s wedding. It looked tremendous.

Dubrovnik Wedding

The Proposal

Guy whisked me away on a surprise trip to Croatia for 3 nights. On the first night we were there he took me to a secluded viewing point of the old town and proposed at sunset before having dinner at panorama restaurant. We stayed in the same hotel for our wedding Valamar Dubrovnik President Hotel.

The Vision

We always wanted a small intimate wedding that was easy and relaxing for guests but also a good party as we both love music dancing and live instruments. Hence the saxophone player. We wanted to provide our guests with a day that they could remember and enjoy from the setting to the food and drink to the music and transportation. Everybody loved the boat over to the ceremony accompanied by free-flowing bubbles and a saxophonist.

We were lucky as not many guests had been to Croatia before and they were all blown away by its beauty, the venue and the old town!! They all want to return for future holidays.

The Planning Process

We always wanted to get married abroad and we loved Croatia so much from our trip for the proposal that we knew we had to get married there. A close friend of mine knew someone who got married there and put us in touch with the lovely Ines who became our wedding planner.

We visited a year in advance to meet Ines go through the ideas and look at venues. We then returned around 7 weeks before the wedding to confirm all plans and food tasting.

Wedding dress – Pronovias I just love their dresses and the experience in the shop was amazing! I have since altered the dress into a fitted midi (calf-length) so I can wear it at another special occasion (not someone’s wedding of course!) it would be a shame to waste that beautiful back detail, it deserves another wear!

Wedding shoes – Louboutins were a must!

Hairpiece – this was purchased by my sister from an antique store in the UK for her wedding back in 2015 but she never wore it so it was my something borrowed 🙂

Bracelet – a wedding gift from Guy Monica Vinda bangle with blue gems (my something blue)

Wedding bands – mine all diamond wedding platinum band and Guy a rose gold and platinum band

Groom/best men/fathers suits – they all wore tailored Reid’s suits (inc shirt/ties etc)

Groom Jewellery – Gucci watch a wedding gift from me to match his two colour wedding band.

Bridesmaids

Bridesmaids dresses – Watters absolutely stunning! I was never fussed that they all had to wear the same, happy for them to choose a dress of their choice but they all wanted to wear the same outfit. This was a skirt and top so hopefully then can wear them again separately.

Bridesmaids bracelet – wedding gift to my bridesmaids Monica Vinader delicate rose gold bracelet with light pink gemstone.

The Readings & Music

No readings we wanted a simple wedding. It happened to be a very hot day pushing 34deg so a quick 15/20mins suited us and our guests as we were in a suntrap for the ceremony.

Music

• Acoustic version of isn’t she Lovely (Kevin slim) on the entrance to the island. Guests already there I turned up on a gorgeous speed boat with my maid of honour/best friend.
• Aisle music – acoustic version on My Love by Jess Glynne.
• Whilst signing the register we had All I am by Jess Glynne.
• Acoustic house with live sax during cocktail hour/photos.
• R&B song My Wifey on the entrance to dinner (we had a shot of tequila on the entrance as per all the guest who sat down before us).
• First dance acoustic version on Your song (Elton John) by a female YouTuber.

The Honeymoon

We booked to go NYC and Jamaica for our honeymoon on our year anniversary but due to COVID have been unable to go 🙁

Memorable Moments

• Marrying my soul mate
• Getting ready with bridesmaids (3 sisters and best friend)
• Exchanging our rings and mine getting stuck as my fingers had swollen in the heat 🙂
• Guy’s speech
• My bridesmaids’ speech stole the show!!! Rendition of fat bottom girls modified to me and Guy (why guy married me lol)
• Dancing to our music all night long with a live saxophonist

Advice For Other Couples

• Have the day you want! It’s about you two.
• If you go abroad always suggest drinks/dinner the night before to get past all the awkward hellos on the actual day.
• By day 3 at the BBQ beach party everyone knew everyone!
• Give your guests enough notice.
• Make sure your guests are occupied when photos are being taken to ensure the day flows and they don’t feel like they are waiting around.
