Whilst we are feeling the cold, and the dark nights… we can only dream of warmer weather in the UK. But we can dream and begin planning travels for the future.
Exsus Luxury Holidays create the most amazing bespoke holidays all over the world and in Africa… with luxury honeymoons being one of their specialities, read on for more…
Hi, could you firstly tell our readers a little bit about you?
I studied for a degree at Edinburgh University (accompanied by my dog, who has his own degree scroll). Afterwards, the real world called, and I spent five lovely years planning luxury African adventures from the Cotswolds. Since January, I’ve been enjoying the buzz of big city life in London, where I run the Africa department at Exsus Luxury Holidays.
How did you get into the travel industry?
I lived in Tanzania for a year, and spent much of my time exploring, from the top of Kilimanjaro to the plains of the Serengeti, via some seriously beautiful beaches on Zanzibar. During my time here, I fell head over heels with Africa, so when the time came to getting a job, luxury travel seemed just the ticket. A six week research trip followed, complete with luxury tree houses and gin and tonic in starlit bathtubs- after that I never looked back.
What does Africa have to offer honeymooners?
Most honeymooners really need to relax after all the work (and partying) involved in a wedding, so it’s crucial to have somewhere that you can totally wind down. Africa’s brilliant at this, from gorgeous private islands in the Indian Ocean to beautiful wilderness spas.
On top of this, a honeymoon is a once-in-a-lifetime holiday, and many of our newly-weds want to do something totally unique. A safari really fits the bill here, a romantic, luxury holidays experience with serious wow-factor.
What do you aim to achieve for your clients?
This really varies from client to client. Because all of our trips are bespoke, it’s really about getting things absolutely spot on for each couple, be it the perfect proposal moment (I’ve done two so far) or a surprise candle-lit dinner in the bush. I’ve also done one or two nerve-wracking honeymoons that have been a complete surprise for the bride, and we’ve had to guess at what she’d like. Fortunately, so far they’ve been unqualified successes! The best of course, is when people go for a one-off adventure, and become completely addicted- we have some Africa bugs who come back year after year because they just can’t get enough.
Could you give us some examples of honeymoons with prices?
One of my favourite honeymoon options is Exsus Undiscovered Tanzania itinerary.
It’s really adventurous and off the beaten track, but seriously romantic and comfortable. It has the things you want from an African adventure, like dinner under the stars, lions roaring in the night, sleeping in beautiful luxury tents, and blissing out on a beautiful unspoilt beach. This would normally cost from about £3,200 per person. Alternatively, for top-end luxury, our African Sundowners Itinerary combining Victoria Falls, the Okavango Delta, and beach in Mozambique costs from £6,500 per person.
Do you have any tips for couples when choosing their honeymoon?
Be really honest (with your advisor, and with yourselves) about what you want. You can never give us too much information, or ask too many questions. It’s all about making sure things are just perfect before you go, so that your honeymoon really is the holiday of a lifetime.
Thanks so much to Exsus Luxury Holidays, i am now dreaming of an African adventure, what a perfect way to spend your honeymoon 🙂 Do check out their amazing website xoxo
