It’s so surreal to say that we have been on honeymoon. It was a long time coming wasn’t it? Hehe. Being parents, we didn’t want to be away from them for long or too far away. In fact I’ve never left the boys to go away before and I did feel a little guilty. But you only get one honeymoon so we just went for it.

I’ve always wanted to go to Bath, the architecture, spa and history really appealed to me. We actually thought of going when we planned our original wedding so it felt right to go there.

We found a free weekend in December and got searching for the perfect country luxe cottage.

Our Cottage

It felt like we were living in “The Holiday” for the weekend (love that film hehe). We drove down dark narrow country lanes at half past 10 on a Friday evening and stumbled upon our home for our stay. We felt a little bewildered after an almost  3 hour late night road trip but we immediately felt welcomed with the cosy and beautiful interiors, sweet note and bottle of bubbly. Think roll top baths in the bedrooms and antique furniture.

We settled in for our first night ready for our weekend of no plans. Any parents out there will understand that having no plans or routines would be strange yet blissful. We sprung up on the Saturday and headed into Bath. We were so close yet it felt like we were in the middle of nowhere. Our honeymoon had begun…

The Royal Crescent

This iconic building really is a sight to behold. We only spent about half an hour here but the magnitude of the residence really cannot be captured in an image. It really is worth a wander around.

Christmas Market & Shopping

We knew there may be a Christmas market on when we were in Bath, but WOW, we didn’t know what a huge event it was. It was wonderful and the atmosphere so festive. It was super busy and the shopping in Bath is brilliant, Anthropologie was my fave.

We picked up some last minute gifts and a Christmas decoration of each of us for the tree. If anyone is thinking of planning a visit, I’d really recommend it. It’s never to early to think about next Christmas right?

Loved the rainbow stairs in The Makery. A craft paradise.

There was also an ice rink and festive glow in the dark crazy golf on. After a visit to the cinema to watch The Hunger Games (yes really hehe) we went and had a little game. We did abandon the skating… hello sore shopping feet. But it was really magical and made for a relaxed evening together.

Gluten Free Cuisine

Being Coeliac we go self catering so that I can cook my own food. I do find it hard to eat out and trust restaurants and I didn’t want to have any anxiety when we were away. After hearing of Carluccios new GF accreditation we gave it a go.

We ate there twice over the weekend and I may have fallen a little in love with the Ragu hehe.

The Roman Baths

Bath is of course famous for the Roman Baths. It was probably top of my sightseeing list and it was simply amazing. It was fascinating to find out all about the Roman history of Bath and the baths themselves were sight to behold.

We also went to the Bath Thermae Spa for a morning session on the Saturday. Sadly being our disorganised selves we didn’t manage to book a couples treatment. But it was blissful. The rooftop pool was amazing with views over the city. It was the perfect way to start our break.

Daylesford

On our journey home we stopped off at Daylesford farm shop. It is a gorgeous setting with some wonderful treasures. We picked up some lovely food and the smells coming from the kitchen were amazing. It was lovely to have a scenic drive home through the Cotswolds together.

If you are thinking of having a UK honeymoon or mini moon or just a getaway, Bath has a great mix of country and city. We can’t wait to go back one day. Don’t be afraid to have the trip that suits you. We went to the cinema as we never get the chance to go, we didn’t do romantic candlelit dinners or lazing around. But it was just perfect for us xo Lou
