Industrial Indie Autumn City Wedding

This wedding is right up my street, urban industrial meets whimsical autumn. Ohhh yes.

WWW readers Rob and Kate chose to get married on the 10th October 2015 after finding out they were expecting their first child and bringing forward their wedding date. That left them with three months to plan their day which turned out so very perfectly.

The celebration was really individual, set at 99 Mary St, an industrial venue in Sheffield, they really went to town on the décor. They used seasonal blooms and vegetables nestled alongside candles which made for a spectacular display.

I am head over heels for Kate’s swishy tulle gown, Rob’s tweed and bow tie combo and their cute pup. Perfection.

THE PROPOSAL | Rob: There is a stunning stone bridge which used to be part of the old railway lines in Ashover, Derbyshire. This bridge is now part of a beautiful woodland walk that comes out just near the Poet’s Corner Inn. A spot which also houses many fond memories of our relationship, to me the perfect spot. It didn’t quite work out like that… It was a lovely summers day, when we approached the bridge the sun was glittering through the trees and the scene was (seemingly) set. I put down our bags and like in preparation. Kate however walked straight across the bridge, the dog jumped into the stream, a gang of cyclists drove past… sod’s law personified! We got to the Poet’s Corner, our local (despite being a good 45 minute drive away) with me wondering now how to propose. Kate sat outside while I went to get some drinks, still pondering. It was the middle of the day on a Thursday so was pretty quite at the pub. Inside B.B. King & Eric Clapton’s ‘Marry You’ was playing (I kid you not!) taking this as a sign I marched outside, with no one around I climbed onto the bench and got down on one knee. I think it’s fair to say Kate was surprised – as was I!

THE VISION | Initially we had planned for an outside yurt, festival theme. With outside bars, chillout lounges and fire pits aplenty botanical, natural and relaxed. However news in July scuppered this slightly when we found out we were expecting our first child! We decided to bring forward our wedding date to October and to hopefully bring similar vibes inside. Something that we felt we did, and which bettered anything we could have wished for.

THE PLANNING PROCESS | As we brought our wedding day forward, we therefore planned and executed everything within a 3 month period! (Which sounds even crazier reading back!) We looked at a few venues, but as soon as we saw 99 Mary St. we new it was a perfect match for us.

FINDING THE DRESS | Kate: Being pregnant I thought that bridal shops would look at me as a nightmare! I’m picky as it is and I didn’t want to look over pregnant. Also when I started looking for dresses, I couldn’t judge how much I would be showing 3 months down the line. I chose to visit Agape initially as I loved the range of designers they stocked and as soon as I walked in the door I felt welcomed. Sara who works there was also pregnant and they made me feel so at ease. Every time I had to go back for sizing it felt the same. It made the 3 hour round trip worthwhile!

BEAUTIFUL BRIDESMAIDS | Kate’s sisters Jess and Megan and Rob’s sister Emma. Wearing dresses from ASOS which, with Tracey Campbell’s floral crowns we felt matched with our Autumnal themes.

THE DETAILS & DÉCOR | We felt that 99 Mary St’s bare brick walls was perfect and we didn’t want to change too much. We felt it symbolised Industrial Sheffield. We used our own German beer festival tables and benches and decorated the room with natural Autumn flowers and candles.

THE HONEYMOON | Did we mention we’re having a baby?

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | Rob: The whole day was perfect. There wasn’t anything we felt we missed out and nothing at all went wrong.

ADVICE FOR OTHER COUPLES | Planning a wedding within 3 months is not perhaps for everyone, but for us it really worked. It meant we were focused on what we really wanted and created the perfect wedding for us, without spending money on unnecessary things.
